Very cool, this 918RSR.
I like the way the cars' exterior design quotes a number of elements from some of the legendary Porsche competition cars of the past. It especially reminds me of the 904 GT/GTS of the early 60s' (door treatment) and the short-tail 907/908 sport prototypes of the late 60s' (flying butress rear roof pillars). A very tastefully executed modern day exercise in sportcar design with its' LED taillamps etc.
Absolutely love it ! And can't wait to see it without the decals.
because supercar/racecar drivers couldn't care less about fuel economy
Two words: endurance racing.
Don't forget qualification. The lower amount of fuel a car is lugging around, the lighter and faster it will be.

Together with limited edition 911 Turbo S ‘Edition 918 Spyder’ images, Porsche also released first sketches of the production 918 Spyder, that you can see in the gallery below next to the concept, that debuted a year ago at the Geneva Motor Show. The production version will be based on a carbon-fibre reinforced plastic monocoque with removable roof panels, and some styling changes compared to the concept, but nothing major.
I've always somewhat questioned how manufacturers would implement the screens for side mirror cameras and Porsche has just presented us with the best solution, which is to position the screen in the backdrop of the tachometer/speedometer.
