It's official. The US press release is available

http://press.porsche.com/news/pdf/2017_pdf/17_Porsche_911_GT3_Press_Release.pdf

500 HP/338 lb-ft from a 4.0 L naturally aspirated flat 6 engine. PDK standard, but 6 speed manual is an option.

3153 lbs with PDK
3116 lbs with manual transmission

0-60mph in 3.2 seconds with PDK with top speed of 197mph
0-60mph in 3.8 seconds with manual transmission with top speed of 198mph

New diffuser. 918 steering wheel.

No mention yet of light weight flywheel for manual transmission.

when I compare to the US press release of the 2014 991.1 GT3, it seems the 2018 991.2 GT3 is a modest improvement:

2014 GT3 weight 3152.6 lbs (new car a touch heavier due to engine??)

2014 GT3 0-60mph = 3.3 seconds with top speed of 195mph (new car 0.1 seconds faster to 60mph with an extra 2mph top speed)

Performance on track will obviously be faster than the 991.1 GT3 with greater torque/HP and maybe a bit more downforce in the 991.2 GT3 (new diffuser).

Whether it can match the 991.1 GT3 RS is questionable. The RS should have even more downforce, and is lighter with more lightweight bits (carbon fibre front fenders, magnesium roof, etc).

The manual transmission version is significantly slower though, in a straightline compared to the PDK version.

Obviously, the big news here is the availability of a manual transmission!

I wonder how the manual version will affect 911R's resale market.

I wonder how the manual version will affect 911R's resale market.

The market has already softened a bit with speculators having anticipated the availability of a manual on GT3.2s

A couple months ago some dealers were asking upwards of $700k

The 911 R:
  • 911 for the most illustrious and iconic sports car ever made and...
  • R for how to pull the Ring out of it

^Nice, revs to 9k unlike the 4L in RS or R! Didn't expect that, hope they fixed all the engine issues with the previous one.
