Minor tweaks, unique features

Porsche has unveiled a special edition 911 to celebrate the company's 10th anniversary in China.

Based on the Turbo S, the unique model features a gold exterior with a carbon fiber hood, a carbon fiber rear spoiler and 19-inch Sport Classic wheels.

Inside, the cabin is outfitted with Alcantara sport seats, carbon fiber trim and exclusive sill plates. Other highlights include a Sport Design steering wheel, unique floor mats and special badging.

Like the standard model, power is provided by a turbocharged 3.8-liter six-cylinder engine that produces 530 PS (390 kW / 523 hp) and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) of torque. It is connected to a seven-speed PDK transmission, which enables the car to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 3.3 seconds and hit a top speed of 315 km/h (196 mph).

Production will be limited to 10 units, but no word on pricing.

I now feel a sudden urge to relocate to China :D

This is one of the few of all the limited editions Porsche release twice a month, that stands out. Matte bronze/gold does clad the car rather well and with those classic rims, the car looks like a super star. I give this one a thumbs up. Rich folks in Dubai are bound to want to have one of these editions imported.

But with only ten to be available they better act fast.

Nice! Does anyone now know how many 2011 997 variants (including S.E.s) there are?

Porsche is just really something. They must not want to let the 997 go themselves. Love the colors and wheels.

I think there are like 26 versions of the 997 out there now. Porsche 911 is the Camry of sports cars.

More like the Mustang of sports cars. There are countless of Mustang limited editions.

Yeah that too, the Mustang Franchise is massive and they keep doing so many changes every year. 2010 facelift, 2011 new engines, 2012 more special editions and no doubt some engine changes again. Busy, busy, busy Ford and Porsche engineers are.

Hey.. they caught on to BMW's strategy of China-only 'Special Edition' M3's.

Will there be a 'Karate Panda' edition where the gold is replaced with Pearl White?

And then a 'Techno Tiger' edition with Orange and Black color combination?

If people are willing and able to buy these special edition models, then good on Porsche and BMW for giving it to them. :)

I would think that Porsche wants to get rid of their parts bin before the new 911 comes out in the Fall.
