I honestly can't remember. I saw this on a BBC documentary hosted by Bob Geldof a while ago.

OK, back to the point ... Oprah came there in a private jet, then in a helicopter, and then in a RangeRover ... And then she greeted the patients , and donated to those poor local women the following things (donated by sponsors):
cashmere sweaters !!!
silk scarfs !!!
sets of make-up kit !!!
a designer purses !!!
and $100 each in a local currency !!!

Mirage said:This is what people of the developed world do - sadly, for some of the Tsunami 2006 aid victims, what they got were stilleto heels, winter jackets and perfume instead of the food and water that they really need. They see it as a dumping ground for their unwanted goods. I'm not sure if it's the same for Oprah.

Aid does not go directly to the poor. Even if every needy person in Africa had a PayPal account, the money donated would not go directly to them! The money passes through aid agencies, some of dubious integrity. Celebs making these pampered PR stunt visits in their Gulfstream jets and Agusta helicopters only give incredible incentive to crooks to skim charity money! With an unprecedented amount of aid coming in, this only leads to more waste. It's about damn time celebrities think amount the consequences of what they do. They don't dominate the world.
Pretty bad. Of course the big NGOs (non-governmental organizations) are very expensive to run and so a lot of the donated money is swallowed up in administration costs. The big NGOs are actually very competitive with each other and are very aggressive -- and although they are supposed to be charities to help the needy, they are run like any other multi-national corporations. As for the massively bureaucratic mess that is the United Nations, Kofi Annan tried to clean up some of the corruption but it is still a very wasteful and over-indulgent institution.I heard at that time that someone had even send tangas and strings for the local women![]()

You are quite right on this mate. Aid does not go directly to the poor! I have a friend who works/volunteers in "Doctors without borders" (or whatever they are called in english). He said to me during Christmas time when he visited me, that even though the majority of the volunteers really want to help and the even sucrify themselves, there are still people, mostly high officials who are CORRUPTED and "steal" a lot of this money. It ends up to the poor only a 40% of what is initially intended to be sent. This is dramatic if you think of the amounts of money given to the poor! The same goes for the "hardware" as well!
I think a lot of it can be put down to good old-fashioned jealousy. Paris has been treated like a joke by the Media ....they invented her, use her, hound her ....and then take immense pleasure watching as she and her friends self destruct.
