I'm very much surprised about the hugely positive reaction this colour is getting from everyone. I thought it was going to be a love of hate thing. But everyone who has seen it in person has said it's fantastic.

Same with the design. Nothing but praise. The lines flow, it doesn't look like a mess and not nearly 1/2 as angular as it appears in photos. In fact there is just enough ‘visual interest’ to captivate you. That rear wheel arch is also extremely subtle. You actually notice people staring out on the road, which is a little embarrassing. Luckily the windows are tinted and you can't see in.

I'll probably write a much more detailed review soon, but suffice to say the way the car drives is absolutely fantastic! As an all-round package, as a 'proper Mercedes’, it's a massive improvement over the W211 IMO.

Will have a few dodgey night photos up shorly. Please excuse how bad they are, but they give a little bit of an idea about the lighting.

Im loving those accent lights runing across the dash and door I bet its an extremely relaxing car to use for late night drives. Are they an optional extra?

Picked up my uncles new E-class yesterday as he is currently overseas. The car is a diamond white E250 petrol with the AMG Sports Kit. Mercedes has been working very hard because the car is truly a REVELATION in terms of refinement, ride and handling compared to my dad pre facelift E350CDI. There is not one area where the new car is not notably superior to the old one. The transmission is also now flawlessly smooth.

I've put a few comparison shots of the two cars. Photos don't do the FL justice as they fail to capture the 3 dimensionality of the front end treatment. It looks stunning in the metal. The number of people that have been turning around to look at it is incredible. Too much unwanted attention really. Especially from younger guys.

The difference is like - ahem - black and white.

Interestingly, for me, the white car viewed from the front looks like a Benz whilst the black one looks more like a Lexus.

Martin, the older E350 is actually Cuprite Brown, though it does look black in the overcast weather.

I agree Mercedes has done an excellent job bringing the E-class in line with its current design language and the front end of the avant-garde variant is something to be appreciated in person. I'm absolutely in love with my uncles car and my father is feeling a little left out given what a big upgrade this FL is over his in all facets, exterior, interior, drive, assistance technologies and refinement.
