if you choose the new E-class, then let me give you an advice, stay away from those double foglights :)

Another personal view - Jaguar looks a lot better than new E-class but I think as a family car the E-class offer more space in the backseat and maybe a larger trunk.

I remember this came up in one of the XFR threads. Here are dimensions (inches, sorry) for the XF and the new E-class (W212). Dimensions are very similar. XF wins on rear legroom, suprisingly, and W212 excels on rear headroom.

XF
Headroom F 39 R 37.6

Shoulder F 56.8 R 56.3
Legroom F 41.5 R 36.6
Trunk 17.7 cu/ft

E-Class (2010+)
Headroom F 37.9 R 38.2
Shoulder F 57.8 R 56.9
Legroom F 41.3 R 35.8
Trunk 19 cu/ft

I saw an XF drive past me in a dim-lit Highway the other night, STUNNING. It was a silver seemingly Loaded up verson (maybe an S/C model?), and the subtle lines REALLY played with the faint light emitted brilliantly, I was staring straight ahead, and just the sheet-metal, and how the shadows played around with the side profile, made me look directly at it.

I think it is a gorgeous design, one of those that can look "bland" to some in certain pictures (which will ensure it will be a timeless design, i.e understated), but when you see it in its proper element, it's downright stunning.

Also, it doesn't have a bad angle, which definitely can't be said of the W212.

The only things that would/are keeping me from Jag are the fact that I don't know if I trust the brands current situation, Tata, etc. and trust the engineering of M-B/BMW more-so.

However, stylistically speaking, no comparison between the W212 and XF IMO, XF sails ahead.

I was just thinking about adding Audi A6 to this discussion not to the poll.
Would it be a good idea to do so?
If yes then it would be this model:Audi A6 S line 3.0 TDI 240 tiptronic quattro

Is audi also releasing a new model for A6 next year?

Well in my opinion the Audi is a great car, but old - even after the facelift the E60 looks much fresher then the sobbing A6. This is just my opinion… :usa7uh:

After having seen the size difference between the E class and C Class.
What is the major point that differentiates E class from C class ( other than the price)
Exact C class model: Mercedes C320 5 Door Estate 3.0 CDI Elegance 7G-Tronic

Thanks

I'd take an E-Class. I saw several of them, and I think they look stunning. A black E-Class with nice 18" and LEDs looks totally fantastic. The interior is very very comfortable and ergonomic and feels very well built.

The BMW is a very nice car, has aged surprisingly well, but I'd only take it if you have a very substantial price decrease on it.

The Jag looks extremely well, but I have my reservations on the interior, and it doesn't stand the comparison on the engineering PoV.

So E-Class for me. Easily. But the three are excellent cars.

The C-Class? I love it but the interior is clearly inferior, and it has much less space especially at the back: it's far from being as roomy even at the front.

What was your impression regarding the size difference?

In my world, it is hard to compare the C-class and the E-class. They are as different as the W124 and the W201 (damn, that sounded dorky, sorry...).

My choise would also be the Mercedes E-Class:

1. Exterior Design. Clearly the E60 is very old and due to be replaced. It really needs the M-Sport Package to look competitive, but the new E-Class and XF are much more fresh. The Jag is very nice styled, but I doubt it has the typical classiness of a Mercedes design. It looks fresh, but not for long. The E looks great and it will look great for many years!

2. Interior Design. I am not a fan of the E60 interior. It looks very minimalistic in my opinion, and other BMWs have a much better interpretation of a minimalistic interior. On the other hand, Jag's interior is nice styled, but looks gold and strange with the yellow light illumination and the quality is a step behind the Germans. The E-Class interior is nice, yet it is not fabulous. It has a typical MB essence and is very ergonomic. It's of great quality, too. Among this three interiors, my favourite is of the next 5er...

3. Engines. It's not deniable that the BMW has the best engine of them all, but it's a diesel. And I don't think a diesel suits the BMW philosophy. I'd rather see a diesel in an MB, as it's a very comfortable cruiser, and a gasoline (N/A) engine in the more sporty 5er.

4. The 5er is due to be replaced, but I wouldn't care about it if I was planning to keep the car for long. But if a replacement would come in 2-3 years, then this lead to a smaller than normal resale value. Thus I'd prefer an E or a XF.

On the other hand: If this was between 530i and E350, I would choose the 5er, due to the superb driving dynamics and the very good engine.

:t-cheers:

The E class is longer than the C class.
Any difference in the engine? or anything else

Hey the engines are same in the C and E.
I own a C220cdi and its a awesome car and a fun car and great ride.i drove a e300 about a mounth back and if you looking for a family car their is nothung better then the new E..

If you not restricted on budget then the new E is a much better car then the c ..

The E is quite a bit bigger and roomier ..nice big boot and very very spacious car and i just love the interior in the new E ...

The ride is also superior to the C ..

The C is a awesome car but i would take a E anyday if i didnt worry off the budget ..

Overall i would say the E is better in all aspects except maybe the handling off the C is bit sharper but not much off a differenc the E i fiund suprissingly handled very well...

I think it really depends on whether you mind buying a model which will be replaced in a year. I'd say the E60 now is at its most mature and most reliable stage, as always because the latest models tends to have everything solved, and you will tend to get the best deal with a lot of free options to lure you, right? So at this particular time decisive thing is whether you are willing to buy a brand new, but soon to be an outgoing model car, if so I'm pretty sure the E60 worths a serious consideration. Also the 35d engine is arguably "better" than the MB one right?
And this is probably a personal/subjective thing, but I saw some new E's around and I honestly do not think it looks all that great, the lines and shape of it makes it look a lot like the C imo and no where near as generous as the S. Styling-wise i think the Jag has some different flavour to it which makes it look special, but that's the only reason.. And I don't think the E60 looks very old, in fact it looks very new by itself, would look a bit old next to the latest models like F01 though, but it itself still looks great, even non-M.
