Opel GT X Experimental

It appears that PSA is making a genuine effort to resuscitate Opel. Something that GM had been unable to achieve.

While the new Insignia is a step in the right direction, Vauxhall/Opel is an identity less brand. I can't recall the last time I heard anyone say I'm going to buy a Vauxhall. It's neither design, value, quality or reliability led and lack aspirational attributes.

Had Opel/Vauxhall remained under the GM umbrella, one could arguably say that its' future would have lied behind it. A goner with no other destiny than absolute obscurity and, eventually, demise. PSA stewardship may prevent that fate.

Totally. Opel would have been reduced to a badge slapped on a body shared by another brand.

And yet Vauxhall is the 3rd best selling manufacturer in the UK behind Ford and VW, considerably out selling the likes of Citroen, Fiat, Honda, Mazda, Volvo, SEAT, Skoda, Renault, Nissan and Peugeot by at least 2 to 1.

Based on 2018 half-year German registration data, Opel finds itself behind VW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Ford and BMW in 6th place. With Skoda hot on its' heels in 7th.

The Police force love the Insignia! :D

Vauxhall scores huge sales in the UK because they give very generous discount if you work for:

  • National Health Services, Police, Fire and rescue service
  • Local Countil
  • Certain energy providers
  • Select Vauxhall suppliers
  • Select IT and finance providers
  • Military and Civil Service
  • Government

Basically it's not difficult to be eligible for a 25% discount, which is extendable to partners, family members and in-laws. If you are not eligible, Vauxhall offer 0% APR over 5 years and big discounts can be haggled anyways.

Their cars aren't junk though. The Astra is a fantastic family hatchback.

Why do I find it so easy to picture Theresa May turning up to Downing Street in a Vauxhall Corsa! :ROFLMAO:

I hadn't realised Vauxhall's discount scheme was quite that wide ranging, though it doesn't surprise me. The cars aren't junk, but they're definitely in that "appliance" section of the market - a bit like dish washers and fridges.

Wide ranging is even an understatement and is the reason their cars have stroke-inducing resale values.

Side note:
BMW Parklane is not franchised but is owned by BMW UK. Their discounts are limited to diplomats, NHS, Fire, Ambulance and Police force - including family members, partners and in-laws. You basically get to buy a car without dealer mark up and is exclusively for factory orders.

Absolutely. Vauxhalls are "get the job done" type of cars for when you want a steering wheel and four wheels at the lowest price possible.
