Opel would have been reduced to a badge slapped on a body shared by another brand.Had Opel/Vauxhall remained under the GM umbrella, one could arguably say that its' future would have lied behind it. A goner with no other destiny than absolute obscurity and, eventually, demise. PSA stewardship may prevent that fate.
I can't recall the last time I heard anyone say I'm going to buy a Vauxhall. It's neither design, value, quality or reliability led and lack aspirational attributes.
And yet Vauxhall is the 3rd best selling manufacturer in the UK behind Ford and VW, considerably out selling the likes of Citroen, Fiat, Honda, Mazda, Volvo, SEAT, Skoda, Renault, Nissan and Peugeot by at least 2 to 1.
