Over the years, automotive designers have drawn inspiration from other modes of transportation such as airplanes, boats, and space shuttle. The folks at the bespoke program have taken things a step further and have a Phantom Coupe that pays homage to a horse
The animal in question is an Arabian horse named Mirage. It was purchased in Iraq in 1926, and subsequently won several big-name events in the United States and in England. The Phantom Coupe that pays homage to Mirage was given a sinister-looking flat black paint job that is complimented by a discreet red stripe that runs down both sides of the car. A red logo that depicts the animal’s head is present on both fenders. The contrasting red and black treatment is continued on the inside. Again, Mirage’s head is carefully stitched with black thread into all four of the red headrests. The finishing touch is plaque mounted in both doorsills that reads “Mirage motif”, and features a gold horseshoe. The one-of-a-kind model Phantom Coupe Mirage was commissioned by Kadhim Al Helli, the Rolls-Royce manager of Abu Dhabi Motors, and it was hand-built in Goodwood, England.Associating a horse with a Rolls-Royce is not as random as it might seem. “The synergies between the Arabian horse and the Rolls-Royce brand are hard to ignore,” explains Helli. “Arabian Horses are one of the oldest equine breeds in existence, renowned for their refined physical attributes, fine temperament and strong bloodline; just as Rolls-Royce is synonymous with exquisite design, flawless performance and pioneering heritage.”The unique Mirage-inspired Phantom is currently sitting in the Rolls-Royce showroom of Abu Dhabi Motors. No word was spoken about what the sticker on the windshield reads.
