We couldn’t stop laughing with this post at “Audi Forums” that was brought to our attention by one of our readers. We can’t vouch for its authenticity, but the story is definitely unique in a “Sponge Bob and Patrick” sort of way. In a nutshell, Audi Forums member “Powrd1.8T” learned that by porting and polishing the intake and exhaust of his 1998 Audi’s 1.8-liter Turbo engine, he’d get some extra horsepower.

He also overheard that this was done by using abrasive material. So, being a bit of a Scrooge, he got together with a friend who tunes Hondas (we’ll call him Patrick), and they decided to port and polish the intake and exhaust all by themselves. And how may you ask? Well, they hooked up a bag containing 25lbs of sandblasting sand to the intake and started the car… Check out “Powrd1.8T's" post after the jump, it’s worth it.

From AudiForums:

Hey guys, I've got a 98 1.8T. I've had a k04 and chip for a while and wanted to get more performance. I was recommended to port and polish the intake and exhaust. We found out they used abrasive material to do it like gritty sand. So I got with my friend that tunes Hondas and we decided to try it ourselves. We got a bag of sandblasting sand and hooked up into the intake and started the car. We had to hold the gas so it would run. He wanted to let the engine suck in the sand through the intake so it would port it out and then push it out the ehxaust so it would port the exhaust manifold.

I was worried that it might cause problems but he figured it'd be OK as long as we didn't make boost and it get sucked in the turbo. After running the car and letting it suck in sand we got about half way through a 25 lb bag. The check engine light was on and the engine was bucking and kicking and sounding really weird. We stopped and hooked the car back up normal and took off the sand supply. We tried to start it again and it was really hard. Once started it couldn't idle and kept making weird noises. We took it out and drove it and it started to make scraping and knocking noises.
Help! Can anyone tell me what to do! My buddy only does Hondas so he doesn't know much about Audis.

Hahaha, go and read answers to his post, hahahaha...:

Let me get this straight. You sucked sand directly intro your engine and thought it would help anything? Are you f***ing retarted? Why the hell you think that they put air filters on cars? I can't come up with the words.?!?!?!?!

And P.S. your friend doesn't know any thing about hondas either.

wow u got 25lb of sand in ur engine and it's still running? now that is a maricle. dude u don't belong anywhere near a car. go get a vehicle that has no engine, put ur feet through the floor board and start running. wow man u need sum1 to hit u upside the head with a crowbar

:ROFLMAO:

LMAO! Dude take some advice, When you get your next car...DONT put sand through the air intakes (It might work a little better:usa7uh:). These people on some Audi forums make me laugh, they're always tuning their Audis and most of the time...don't know what to do.:eusa_doh:

I admire this guys courage and stupidity at the same time..It´s rare to see these two qualities at the same time in one person :rofl::usa7uh:

I know what he should do, get a gun and shoot his buddy in the head, then he can shoot himself in the head, if he is too stupid to do that, then the GCF assassination team will help. I am surprised he can live for this long.

OMG!!! Awesome…this is the best part!! :D :t-applaus:rofl::t-rot::t-rot:

I don't believe it. Usually people do this for the replies, it kind of reminds me of that epic thread of the guy drilling a hole directly into the block of his S2000 for a nitrous system.

This is several years old. Remember reading this at least 3 to 6 years ago.

Basically the guy put on a new turbo and chip which would get him depending on boost 100-150 aditional horse power and then wanted to port and polish to gain another 10 :usa7uh:
