The Far East (Singapore and Thailand I know of) charge huge import taxes on German cars (about 200% in most cases). Also they charge heavy taxes for engines with higher than 220hp and larger than 2000cm3 engine capacity, its ludicrous.

Well it kinda make sense given Singapore is essential a small city with high population density and a well developed public transport system, the last thing they need is more cars on the road. I am not sure about Thailand though.

I guess it will be the same with Hong Kong, its import duties must be very high on certain cars. Their parking bays apparently are sometimes more expensive than buildings!! Lol

The idea of owning large, powerful car in Hong Kong or Singapore seems completely nuts to me. If someone is that desperate to own one of these cars in either of these places then they deserve to be taxed as much as possible.

And I'm car mad.

Oh that is for sure, however there are enough wealthy people around in HK so you see plenty of exotic cars out and about. I will add that cars are stupidly expensive in Australia, the standard S 500 coupe starts at $320k AUD

The situation is pretty crazy over in Hong Kong, i saw more S-class on the road than E-class and C-class, in fact I barely saw any C-class while I was there for 2 weeks.

S class was the best selling Mercedes in Hong Kong last year, the e class shall take the position by a huge margin next year.

Speaking of car park lots In Hk.
Parking spaces in at least two car parks in Hong Kong will be up for sale next month, including one owned by veteran investor Lam Chi-fung (林子峰), the Hong Kong Economic Journal reported Wednesday.

Lam is going to sell the 51 parking spaces in Tsuen Wan Houston Industrial Building — 28 for private vehicles for at least HK$1.6 million each and 23 for cargo trucks for at least HK$2 million each.

Forty-two of the slots are on the first floor, while the remaining nine are on the ground floor.

The move is perceived as another sign of a heating up of the market, as 27.2 percent more such sales took place in the first 11 months of this year than the total number of transactions for all of last year.

Lam said the car park at the industrial building is fully occupied. The monthly rent for a parking space for a private vehicle is HK$3,500, and that for a cargo van is HK$4,500.

Another car park, at Plover Cove Garden in Tai Po and owned by an investor surnamed Choi, has 120 parking spaces for sale next month for at least HK$1 million each.

A total of 9,327 sales of brand new and second-hand parking slots were recorded in the first 11 months of this year.

The aggregate amount of HK$11.28 billion has already broken the record of HK$10.65 billion in transactions in 1997.

Nice video review from Autogefuhl with S500 Coupe against Bentley GTC. Not a true comparison but interesting to hear what both testers (nice lady reviewing the Bentley) have to say about the cars.

That 6-cylinder engine in the S400 4-matic has a wonderful bassy sound to it and it is pretty quick as well, the engine pulls well to the redline and gearchanges are smooth and quick.

This car is a beauty with stunning looks and an interior to die for.

Both the wood panel and futuristic air condition vent are a perfect juxtaposition of Mercedes' past and present design language.

Still not sold on the rear. Saw two of them on the road today and while the front is great, the rear almost looks like an afterthought.

A family member got an S coupe.

Non-AMG pack S Coupés with those rims are very elegant looking.

I've begun to search for a 2016, but 90% of S Coupés in dealer inventories nationwide seem to be white or black - even Iridium silver is now a rare find.

Nice to see a non AMG line S-coupe, what does your family member think of the car so far? What was the reason for not opting for the AMG pack?

He doesn't really care about the looks much. He's around 55 if I recall. So it's more about the comfort of the ride.
He's been buying S-Class' for the last ten years or so.
Before that it was BMW. He had one of the first E53's and that's the first BMW I ever driven.
