i3 (I01) [Official] The BMW i3 Official Thread

The BMW i3 (I01) was the first mass-produced zero emissions vehicle by BMW, and part of its i sub-brand. Successor: BMW 3 Series (G28 BEV) (nameplate only). Production: 2013-2022.
A Peugeot being Car of the Year in the same period as the ground-breaking CF i3 or the unimpeachable S-Klasse... ja right. I stand more of a chance of getting lucky with Jennifer Lawrence at the Oscars after party.

She would probably go for it. Shall I try and set it up? I have contacts in the industry.

Success always breeds envy and jealousy. The continued success of the Germans, even through the post-2008 crisis, and the corresponding increasing fall into bankruptcy of Greece, Portugal, Ireland, Spain, Italy, and even France, and the now patently emerging strategic German alliance with Russia, and its 3-country 'Customs Union', plus APEC and ASEAN, in order to secure both Germany's energy supply needs on the one hand, and new markets in Russia and Asia on the other, as the old West, including the UK and the US, decline into inevitable debt default and third world-like economic and social makeup

Have you ever thought about volunteering for The Samaritans? I think your sunny disposition would do a lot of good.

I'm close on being old enough to be her father. Spare the poor thing.

Apparently a member from another forum (the one we're not supposed to mention) was invited by BMW to have a go in one of the prototypes and he has confirmed that it features a KERS button on the wheel. After all the years that SCOTT's been hissing silent farts about KERS on a ///M car, I'm glad we're finally going to see it on a production car.

^party pooper, I was hoping for some whine post about M loosing it... :D

There is also rumours that they will take the two cylinder engine from i3 range extender version and use it with next 7 series entry line model;)

BMW have boosted i3 production for 70 vehicles per day to 100 vehicles per day (a production increase of +43%). :)
The production / supply unfortunately still does not meet the demand. Waiting time for i3 is still several months long.

In some parts of Europe we are at around six months wait. But orders are coming in fast from China with the first allocations of 2014 BMW i3 and BMW i8 all spoken for.

Do you have the any info on which markets are exceeding expectations and which aren't?

From what I can see, they are selling like hot cakes in The Netherlands. I see them popping up everywhere in the cities.
Don't know any sales numbers, but it must be a huge succes!

So what you're saying is that BMW cocked up in their planning?

No, that's just what your negative braincells make of it.
Technology that's a succes at launch usually is in short supply. Happens in many different sectors. You can't simply ramp up production when you feel like, particularly when you're already maxed out.

So what you're saying is that BMW cocked up in their planning?

No. They are just doing some great PR ... :) From what I know the initial target for i3 has always been 30,000/year after the rump-up period (which ends after market launches around the globe are completed - so, sometimes around the end of 2014). So, we are getting closer. IMHO the 2015 production will get closer to 30k units. And then anything above that will be "beyond expectations".

While the Leipzig plant has a total current capacity for i models production of 100.000 units/year. (i3 + i8 + i5 + ???, I guess).

Mind the BMW i sub-brand is just like BMW M sub-brand: a niche matter. More like a halo sub-brand.
There will be plug-in hybrids and even pure EVs also offered under BMW core brand - as variants of core models.
It's not like that all the EVs or plug-in hybrids form BMW Group will sport BMW i badge only.
But for sure BMW i cars will be the only ones featuring LifeDrive CFRP-alu architecture (for the time being) and featuring special dedicated styling.

It's too early to tell. There's is no by-market sales data available as of yet.
i3 still isn't even available in all the planned markets. USA & Asian market launch still has to happen. But from what I see i3 is selling well in Europe - in the countries where also other EVs are selling well.

Yes, quite.

Exactly, which is why I made my sarcastic post as if being sold out for six months is some kind of achievement. BMW are hardly going to let supply outstrip demand are they?

No. They are just doing some great PR ... :)

Yes, I know. I was being sarcastic.
