Get a C217 S63 coupe instead.

The S class coupe is probably one of the best looking cars inside and out ever made, in my humblest opinion. Blends luxury and technology perfectly.

There's a bit of a price difference. Looking on Autotrader, you could buy a C140, C215, and C216 for the cost of a C217.

In fact, C215's look ridiculously cheap for the amount of car, I'm almost tempted, I need a runabout!

I would not touch any of the C140, C215, or C216. The only one remotely worth it as a future classic of the three, IMO, is the C140 and even that is probably a stretch (I'd go for an old S 600 or CL 600 - they had a name change mid-model).

The C217 is worth the extra cost not least because it is that much newer and almost current in technology. Also, compared to the latest S Class (which has no coupe version), the actual tech inside is attractively a lot less screen touch-dependent. It also happens to be, IMO, the best looking version of the S Class coupes across history.

Apart from weight, the S Coupe and the newest AMG GT have nothing else in common.

Completely different vehicles. MB obviously felt the business case for a 2+2 GT was stronger than another S Coupe. Though I am hopeful that the sleek W223 mules that have been spotted are in fact some sort of svelte chop of the S.

They could just revive the C217 with no changes except MB.OS, and I would be more than satisfied.
Also an S65 4matic pls. Upgrade that 9-MCT to handle more torque.

Less mass = less kinetic energy = less force transfer. If you get hit by a car weighing more you'll have a directly proportional increase in kinetic energy.
Of course it's not as important as speed (which would increase the kinetic energy by the square).

Basically if you're getting hit by a car going 40mph, you'd rather it be a 1.5 ton hatchback than a 3 ton humvee

I believe what you’re talking about is if a vehicle hits a stationary object not a pedestrian. A lightweight car at 40 mph is going to send you flying in the air with injuries to match.

And now we have the reason why S coupe was killed. Both SL and GT having 2+2 seating , an S coupe would have been cannibalised

Neither the SL or GT has a usable back seat, it's on paper only. I don't see how the S, which had a real back seat would have been affected.

I'm really curious if there is any statistic around there for how ofter the rear seats of a sporty coupe car are really used.

When I had E cabrio , I used it like , 10 times per year. At most.

It's like a frunk. Better to have it , but not really used. Ok for kids , but in this case , 911/GT/SL are just fine for them.

The UK's department for transport conducts a national transport survey regularly. Some of the data they produce indicates number of occupants per vehicle for various reasons for travel

Given, this is of all vehicle types (including 7 seaters), and the number of people in the vehicle averages out at less than two, and the majority of journeys are a single occupant, the chances of 2+2's ever using the back seats is very low. Most vehicles aren't using their backseats most of the time - many aren't even using the passenger seat most of the time.

To be fair, the W213 coupe’s back seat was more spacious than the S coupe’s. The C217’s rear seats weren’t meant for full size adults for long distances.

The S-class coupe was killed because it was a slow seller, that's it. The convertible version, which usually brought in outsized margins, was even worse. China doesn't care for those body styles unless they're sports cars.

Its a shame, because they're f#cking beautiful. If there was ever a car I'd want to cross continents on, it'd be that. Because lets face it, I'm never going to be driving my "sports car" in anger anywhere, and I'd rather it just be comfortable on these cratered UK roads.

I was driven in S560 coupe a few years ago, and i can't believe how smooth and comfy drive can be & yet sporty feeling. Truly premium experience in pair with bentley.

Seats, all leather, simply 2-3 levels above current sl/amg gt cars. This GT and SL should have exclusive interior and totally unique layout. I was in GT and his interior is in pair with CLE coupe.

My question is : who is more "representative" ?

Because I feel both fail to do their "purpose"

The GT is does not look so sports-car , due to the weight and lack of power increase overall

The SL does look sportier than it should be....

I personally feel like they milked both at the max , by not giving a cabrio for the GT , and also removing the iconic hard top of the SL.

The previous GT platform was based on the SLS model. The new GT's platform is also new.

Yet the S Coupe back seat was still a real seat and bigger than the GT/SL back sear no matter how you slice it. I’ve sat in them many times, just fine for most distances.

Agreed. They have made the ride more pliant than the previous generation and added 2 seats, but it's an entirely different proposition.
