GT (C192) [Official] The all-new Mercedes-AMG GT Coupé

The Mercedes-AMG GT (C192) is the second generation 2-door sports cars produced by Mercedes-AMG. Production: 2023- Model years: 2024-
For the official press release, see The New Mercedes-AMG GT 43 Coupé
It’s a big missed opportunity. A RWD I6 with 450hp and a much lower price may have made this car more relevant. As four cylinder SLs sit at the local dealers lot.

M

What the f**** is going on at MB marketing. Who is making these engine decisions!?!

And that probably only on paper...
Even the ones that sit in the dealerships, will count towards that average fleet.

It's ridiculous that they have to do this, but it is what it is. Porsche get to throw it against VWAGs entire massive fleet across, Skoda, VW, Audi, Seat

Where did you get 1660kg? It is 1775kg per this -

Even if that is with the 75kg driver + luggage, it is still 1700kg on paper. Which means real customer cars are probably closer to 1800kg.

You can get a depreciation proof Cayman GTS that is 400kg lighter with 400 hp from a glorious natural aspirated 6 cyl for ~100k. So unless this 4cyl thing is substantially cheaper, it makes no sense.

Depreciation proof cayman? The cayman was never depreciation proof. Let alone in 2024 where all porsches have taken a hammering on their used valued

AMG GT 43 is slower than X5 M50, lol
Wanna hear another one?

GT43 is (way) slower than a Model 3 Long Range ( not Performance )

4.8s vs 3.7s

Weight - 1775kg AMG GT , 1840kg Tesla
Length - 4720 AMG GT , 4728 Tesla
Width - 1929 AMG GT , 1933 Tesla

NOT saying that Tesla is comparable or better. It's just for gags

Saying it's just not acceptable for a over 110-120k car to be that slow.
I would add EU regulations. Without those, we wouldn't be talking about 4 cylinder AMG cars.

Do you think? Why would it count when they have a 63 in the lineup?

I'd say that it's just to cash grab some rich dads buying for their kids.

Or the wanna-look-rich "influencers" that don't have the money for the real AMG GT...

It can be a little bit of all of the above.
But regulations is what is hammering the high end sports car market.

They hit everyone the same and yet I don't see many others in their league doing this

Who else is in their league really?
Audi is getting rid of the R8 and TT, and both Audi and Porsche can write their emissions off against the entirety of VWAG - and even they couldn't justify keeping Bugatti. BMW don't have a dedicated sports car platform, and have an architecture that doubles as BEV, ICEV and PHEV, to spread the load. The next M5 will be a Hybrid.

Mercedes compete everywhere from industrial/commercial vehicles to Bentley/Rolls Royce competitors all the way down to mid size hatchbacks and even compact cars via smart.

Whether or not their strategy is correct? Well, I dunno. As an enthusiast I don't like it, but then I'm never gonna buy any SL or AMG GT, leave alone the SL/GT43.
The 4 cylinder models aren't replacing the full blooded V8s like it is with the C and CLE 63, so does it really matter?
Mmm nah. The people who buy the 43, know what they're getting and I'm sure they'll be happy with their poser mobile. If not, they won't buy it.

As for the 0-60 times. I'm pretty sure the less powerful C43 can do 0-60 in sub 4 seconds. I don't doubt that the GT43 also has conservative numbers here. Both BMW and Mercedes always underrate their 0-60 times.

Correct, there are alternatives to achieve the same thing and the M5 will be V8 hybrid

Aha, even selling 400,000 commercial 4-cylinder Vans isn't enough and does it have to do the AMGs too? I don't buy that, making it cheaper seems to me to have a lot to do with it.

Honestly, I don't think they buy it much.

Not for GTS 4.0 models down here in SA at least. They've held their value really well, hardly depreciating at all. Particularly the PDK models.

25k haircut here in the UK for a 3/4 year old model.

GT4’s depreciate too.

But then the UK porsche market bubble has burst. I know many super rich guys that wont even entertain Porsche anymore because of all the shenanigans they pulled over the years with getting allocations.

When millionaires and billionaires dont want to dance to their tune that says something.

And those aspirational guys that previously propped up the used market cant afford them at the current interest rates

From what I understand it's becoming near impossible to get a licence plate for an ICE in China these days. It seems really for the elite only. Whole cities with 10s of millions of people drive all BEV
When you look at the air in Chinese cities it's hardly a surprise.
But the only thing that's gonna make a difference is their heavy industry.
