GT [Official] The all-new Mercedes-AMG GT Coupé

The Mercedes-AMG GT is a series of 2-door sports cars produced by Mercedes-AMG. While not directly replacing the SLS AMG (competing in a different segment), it is the second sports car developed entirely in-house by Mercedes-AMG.

I just ordered a GT63 over a 911 not because of performance or engine or features etc. but because of availability. I've been trying to get a 911 allocation for over a year and I'm tired of hearing various versions of "NO". Sure the dealers are happy to sell you something in stock with ridiculous ADM of many thousands of dollars (Southern California market). I'm just not willing to play that game.
So I was able to get a GT63 allocation with a February build date, March/April delivery, and MSRP pricing.
Congrats, I'm sure you'll love it.

f#cken wish I could afford a new one of these.

Ha, I just bought a 911 that was in stock so I could get an allocation for another one that I actually wanted.

New Mercedes-AMG GT goes on sale in UK

You can only buy the 585hp GT 63 over here - and you'll need 911 Turbo money to do it

The more usable, possibly slightly better looking and certainly still V8-powered Mercedes-AMG GT 63 4Matic is now available to order in the UK. You might recall that there’s a GT 55 beneath the more powerful 585hp version, mirroring the equivalent SL - but that won’t be available over here from launch. Instead, you’ll have to make do with the full-blooded derivative in one of three trim levels. It starts at £164,765.

This puts the car firmly in Porsche 911 Turbo territory, which, on the basis of power and pedigree, is absolutely the rival Mercedes is targeting. The latest GT, now in 2+2 format and with standard all-wheel drive and ‘improved all-round visibility’ has acquired a newfound focus on everyday usage - precisely the qualities that Porsche customers tend to favour when buying a high-spec 911. As we suggested when the new AMG GT was revealed back in the summer, it is these buyers that Mercedes will hope to persuade.

Accordingly, there are three trim levels to choose from. All get the familiar 4.0-litre V8 with the nine-speed MCT transmission; all get from 0-62mph in 3.2 seconds and go on to 196mph. Similarly, all are equipped with rear-axle steering and AMG’s electronic limited-slip diff at the back. So for the most part, the difference between Premium Plus (£164,765), Performance (£175,765) and the inevitable Launch Edition (£180,765) is cosmetic or equipment-based.

We won’t dive into the minutia here - all details are now available on the Mercedes UK site - but suffice it to say no variant is poorly equipped, although if you want a racier look (i.e. with additional flicks at the front, a fixed rear spoiler and AMG Performance seats inside) plus the carbon ceramic brakes, you’re better off going for the mid-tier option that slightly undercuts the £180,600 you’ll pay for a 911 Turbo S. Of course, if money is no object, the Launch Edition adds a carbon trim exterior package and a particularly fetching set of 21-inch Manufaktur forged wheels in matte Techgold amongst other things. Or you could wait for the E Performance plug-in hybrid version that’ll almost certainly turn up next year with more than 800hp.
