Exactly the same car as GTI. Very nice car and same price as Golf GTI but with 280 hp. I rather have this than a Golf :)

EVO review

It's a GTI on a budget.

But it lacks the iconic character of the GTI, and I guess its resale value, too.

I'd only buy myself one if I was desperate for a german fast hatchback, but couldn't raise the extra three grand that would be between me and a new GTI.

PS. The regular Leon is such a great value-for-money medium sized hatchback, though!

If they offered a ST (wagon) version of this, I might be tempted... It's a shame it's not AWD, though.

GTI is pale next to this..

Never in a million years. The GTI is an icon in the way it looks and in the way it feels behind the wheel.
SEAT is VAG's least useful brand - it sits in no man's land. Skoda has the budget and value conscious side covered, VW is the one brand for all people and Audi takes care of the sporty, premium sector. Where does SEAT fit in then?

This Leon is totally generic and has none of the identity of a GTI. Its interior is gruuugh by comparison. The exterior is a pastiche of haphazardness. The front is previous gen Ford and the profile is Mazda 3. The low positioning of the door handles below the dramatic swage lines looks odd. The best thing about this car is the fact that it wouldn't be possible without the MQB platform donated by Golf. This car will appeal to a very limited few.

That Icon thing...You guys live in the past among M3 E30 and GTi.... The new Cupra look much better than GTi and is just as good as the GTi. Period!!!! If I hear about GTI again I'll put a dead fish in my mouth and chew on it while I think about you guys.

Best looking hot hatch out there. We don't get SEAT here in Australia so we don't know much about them.

Not much to know. 4 wheels, a steering wheel, made by VW and got 4.5 star rating from EVO. :)

2015 Seat Leon ST Cupra spied without camouflage
Will have 265 HP
The 2015 Seat Leon ST Cupra has been spied virtually undisguised ahead of a possible official reveal this week at the Paris Motor Show.

When Seat unveiled the Leon Cupra in March at the Geneva Motor Show they only showed the three- and five-door hatchbacks but pretty soon the family will be expanded with the addition of the wagon variant. Like its two siblings, the ST will pack a more aggressive body kit matched with a dual exhaust setup, red brake calipers and LED headlights.

Power will come from a four-cylinder 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine developing 265 HP (195 kW) and 350 Nm (258 lb-ft). Chances are Seat will offer the Leon ST also in the "Cupra 280" range-topping trim with output bumped to 280 HP (206 kW), wheel size increased from 18 to 19 inches and the addition of an aero kit.

In terms of performance, the three-door Leon SC Cupra 280 needs 5.7 seconds to hit 62 mph (100 km/h) with the DSG transmission but the ST will be a few ticks of a second slower due to a slightly increased weight.

The 2015 Seat Leon ST Cupra will probably be revealed on Thursday during the first press day of the Paris Motor Show, with sales kicking off shortly thereafter. At the same venue, Volkswagen could decide to bring the 300 HP Golf R Variant.
