Phantom [Official] Rolls-Royce Phantom (VIII)

Rolls-Royce has used the Phantom name on full-sized luxury cars and limousines since 1925, making it the longest used car model nameplate in automotive history. In the 20th century, the Rolls-Royce Phantom was a very low volume, hand-built limousine, which in its first four generations was custom coachbuilt to the customer's requests, and sometimes extravagant desires. Whilst automobile manufacturing over time became more mechanised and prolific, and vehicles from other manufacturers could be built in greater numbers and at lower prices, the Phantoms remained hand-built, and production of individual cars only began once the order was placed. The use of the name "Phantom" is a long tradition of naming Rolls-Royce models after ghosts or spirits.
First review is out..there are some interesting launch colors, including this middle eastern spec.

I am digging the interior of that spec, especially the graining of the veneer used. Not so much a fan of the exterior spec though.

Car design is so color sensitive today. That white and gold looks terrible, but a normally goofy color like purple looks good on this car. Go figure.

That white one in the previous video doesn't look as good on the move as I thought it would. It's still kinda big and ungainly, the front end looks Chinese in some shots. I gotta see it in person. Darker colors or a solid color are a much if you're going to go with a lighter color.

I'm not so crazy about some aspects of the cabin - particularly the doors.
This new cabin is designed to impress ...lots of styling details (like the Mercedes-Maybach). I guess the minimalism of the previous generation made some customers feel short-changed. I quite like that solid wood look (at the front) though.

The rear seats look very comfortable.

I saw the new Phantom today, but did not have enough time to closely check it out. The sheer size of the EWB will never translate into photographs. The only more gargantuan car I remember seeing is a 600 Pullman.

The headlights are a thing to behold.

IMO, I think the rear center console is just not well designed. It looks too similar in design to the center consoles found in large American SUVs.

Compared to the VI, which had an elegant, flowing rear center console with hidden seat adjustments.

Yes, I agree about the console. I think the previous Phantom's interior had a more formal appearance.

The interior is beautiful. The features and quality is unapologetic luxury.

The first review by AUTOCAR is on line. What's interesting comes from the readers's debate area, almost all the comments on the car are negative, from its old school styling to its emission .All in one, this is not a political correctness car.
"old school styling" ???

I thought it looked very contemporary.
Some people will hate it for simply being unapologetically made for the rich.

^ I don't think the reader's comments section of Autocar will provide enlightenment on a Rolls-Royce.

It certainly has a baroque appearance, but with modern details. It doesn't have the more "youthful" appearnce of the Ghost family, so for regular(?) carguys it's just another old man's luxury car like the last Phantom was. If anything, the Mulsanne is the most "old school" looking luxury car.

Looks like there's half a tree trunk on the dashboard. Love it... Piano Black veneer is so overdone by the entire auto industry.

Yeah, the Mulsanne is still my favourite one as a EWB chauffeured car.

This new Phantom is very impressive but so theatrical. It makes me think Batman cartoons from the 1990s.

Surely the Mulsanne has now taken that role with its more extravagant appearance.

It is obvious Bentley has tried to make the Mulsanne more dramatic ...but they'll never match the Phantom.

I am biased about Bentley. I do really like Bentley as a brand more than Rolls. But I also have to admit this Phantom is the superior vehicle in terms of luxury and prestige.

When I see the Mulsanne I always have to check it's not behind me trying to run me down.:nailbiting:

Quite simply the greatest luxury saloon on sale right now, bar none!!! I was thinking long and hard for one specific word for me to describe this car, and I guess I finally found it....RESPLENDENT! That's what this car is

That title is silly, there is no contest with a Maybach lol. Only the Maybach Pullman is even remotely close to the Rolls.
