Phantom [Official] Rolls-Royce Phantom (VIII)

Rolls-Royce has used the Phantom name on full-sized luxury cars and limousines since 1925, making it the longest used car model nameplate in automotive history. In the 20th century, the Rolls-Royce Phantom was a very low volume, hand-built limousine, which in its first four generations was custom coachbuilt to the customer's requests, and sometimes extravagant desires. Whilst automobile manufacturing over time became more mechanised and prolific, and vehicles from other manufacturers could be built in greater numbers and at lower prices, the Phantoms remained hand-built, and production of individual cars only began once the order was placed. The use of the name "Phantom" is a long tradition of naming Rolls-Royce models after ghosts or spirits.
I loved those controls back then, and still do when going on those very rare sunny afternoon trips with my '03 745i. Not very practical, but kinda cool and very unique.

Yes that is one thing I am surprised was not carried over to the F01. The location of the seat controls was actually perfect and reachable instead of leaning to the side and feeling for the knob adjuster.
It was not carried over because they adopted a universal control with a supplier to be shared over every model therefore reducing cost and the unnecessary requirement for more individual controls.

Royale.....

The uncluttered, straight lined profile is just sublime like no other car.
For me it's the long bonnet, stretched passenger compartment and short rear deck. It's very "Titanic".
It's a pity that there won't be a Drophead or Coupe model now that they have the Wraith and Dawn.

I wonder if that is the Wraith Black Badge which has the Mandarin Orange coach line and Mandarin Orange interior highlights.
That is stunning.

Build Your Own Phantom With Rolls Royce’s New Configurator

open.webp

Rolls Royce has launched an online configurator for their all-new Phantom, enabling more people than the traditional one percent of the one percent to experience what it means to build your uber-luxury Phantom.
tailored to the exact taste and needs of each customer.

The all-new eighth generation of the Phantom is based on the company’s bespoke all-aluminum platform which is also set to be used in the upcoming Cullinan SUV as well.

Rolls Royce understandably wanted the new Phantom to be one of the most silent vehicles in the world and that’s why they went to great lengths to make sure it is. The engineers have installed more than 130kg (286lbs) of sound insulation materials and 6mm-thick two layer glass all around the car. Even the tires are unique as they come with a layer of sound-insulating foam inside them in order to further reduce tire noise.

As a result, Rolls Royce says than the new Phantom is ten percent quieter than its predecessor at 62mph. An all-new twin-turbo 6.75-liter V12 with 563hp and 663lb-ft (900Nm) of torque mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission provides the means to move this magnificent beast.

Have a go at the new configurator over here but make sure first you got some free time as there are a ton of options to play with.

BTW, how "new" is the new V12? They've made it sound it's new from the ground-up.

Having given this one a tiny bit of thought, I'm going to guess that the engine in the VIII is the N74 V12 (N74B67). It's all-new for the Phantom, as that had the N73B67 before... but the Ghost/Dawn/Wraith already have the N74.. albeit in a smaller displacement (N74B66)... so the B67 is all-new for the N74 family too...

.. just a guess.

Scott (or anybody else :)), do you know if the Phantom will have the option of a panorama roof?

Was wondering the same thing after seeing that roof picture. Part of me thinks it would be somewhat inappropriate given the ambiance everything about this car seems to be trying to create.

The Starlight roof makes a panorama roof not necessary.

Makes sense. I guess the increase in displacement would be so there'd be more torque available on the lower-end, thus contributing to less NVH?

There's no need to get a panorama roof as that cabin is big and airy enough. Besides, this is one of those cars you'd want to be coocooned in away from all chaos, plebes and riff-raff that's the outside world.

/tongue somewhat in cheek.

Whilst this is probably technically true.... The new Phantom is the new flagship... it was never going to get a smaller engine, and it was never going to get an older engine (whilst we're using pure ICE anyway...)

When you have a tungsten frieze in gallery and a solid mahogany picnic set in the boot, you will need all the displacement BMW can give you.

Since my wife and I are expecting twins, we were wondering how well infant car seats fit in the new Phantom? :D
