Ghost [Official] Rolls-Royce Ghost (2021-)

The Rolls-Royce Ghost is a full-sized luxury car manufactured by Rolls-Royce Motor Cars. The "Ghost" nameplate, is named in honour of the Silver Ghost, a car first produced in 1906. The production model was officially unveiled at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show. The Ghost Extended Wheelbase was introduced in 2011. During development, the Ghost was known as the "RR04". It was designed as a smaller, "more measured, more realistic car" than the Phantom, aiming for a lower price category for Rolls-Royce models.

With the new Ghost, Rolls-Royce has only taken over the Spirit of Ecstasy and the umbrellas from its predecessor. Some of the technology comes from the phantom.

Clearly positioned as a self-drive vehicle, Rolls-Royce has offered the Ghost since 2010. Now the English are introducing the successor - and have not taken anything from the predecessor except for the hood ornament and the umbrellas. But there is a lot of modern technology and little noise.

The designers kept the new Ghost simple and, for example, avoided body seams as far as possible. That's why the smallest Rolls looks like it's been filed from a block. And it looks more present - after all, it has grown in length by 8.9 centimeters to 5.55 meters and in width by three centimeters to 1.98 meters. The nocturnal presence is reinforced by 20 LEDs that indirectly illuminate the radiator grille. According to the manufacturer, the back of the grill struts is processed in such a way that the LED light is not reflected too conspicuously, but is reflected appropriately.

Inside with star lighting
The interior designers of the Ghost are also focusing on new minimalism as a symbol of luxury. The surface materials used, wood, leather and metal, have no additional decorations. And the figures for the interior are also impressive for the new Ghost: 20 so-called half skins are used for the leather covering of the 338 panels. The outfitters do without complex, exuberant seams. But there is also more light inside: Ghost lettering surrounded by 850 stars lights up on the passenger side.

When it comes to cleaning the interior air, Rolls-Royce promises a new micro-cleaning system that automatically detects air pollution and then automatically switches to recirculation mode. Nanofleece filters are said to clean the air of ultrafine particles within two minutes.

Electric doors
The big Phantom and the SUV Cullinan already have it, now the Ghost also gets it: doors that can be locked at the push of a button. But for the Ghost, the engineers have gone one step further and now also enable electric door opening. To do this, the occupant has to pull the inside door handle twice and release it when the desired opening angle is reached. The system should work independently of uphill and drive-on angles.

Calm – but not silence
A quiet interior is part of the Rolls-Royce genes. And so the acoustic engineers shield the occupants of the new Ghost with a great deal of effort from disturbing noises. The bulkhead and floor sections are double-walled and filled with soundproofing materials - in total the Ghost contains 100 kilograms of soundproofing materials. Insulating material sits even between the double-glazed windows and in the tires. In addition, the engineers checked and optimized every component that emits sound waves - until the interior was completely silent. Test occupants found this complete silence disturbing, which is why the production model gets a softly whispering interior undertone.

Ghost subwoofer
The Ghost's audio system is tailored to the interior and uses resonance chambers in the sill area as a subwoofer. An amplifier controls each of the 18 loudspeakers via its own channel, the total output is 1,300 watts. Two interior microphones constantly monitor the sound quality, and if certain frequencies are overemphasized, the audio system counteracts this adaptively.

Now with aluminum spaceframe
Phantom and Cullinan already have an aluminum spaceframe, now the Ghost is getting one too. This light metal frame is extremely stiff (40,000 newton meters per degree) and is beneficial for quiet acoustics. The body is also made entirely of aluminum.

New suspension system
The aluminum space frame is connected to a new suspension system that Rolls-Royce calls the "planar suspension system" after a flat plane. One of the new features is that the infinitely variable air-sprung wishbone damper unit sits above the front suspension - according to Rolls-Royce, this has never been seen before in automotive engineering. The steered five-link rear axle also has an air spring. A stereo camera system monitors the road in front of the Ghost at speeds of up to 100 km/h and adjusts the suspension according to the detected requirements. This system is known from the Mercedes S-Class, where it has been used as Magic Body Control since 2013.

Technical top equipment
In terms of modern technology, the new Ghost has everything that is state of the art: LED laser light headlights with a range of more than 600 meters, an infrared night vision system that also warns of pedestrians and wildlife during the day, a surround view camera system, a collision and cross-traffic warning and a blind spot and lane departure warning.

V12 with two turbochargers
The engine in the Ghost is again a two-turbocharged V12 with a displacement of 6.75 liters. The engineers have revised the engine mapping - the result is an output of 571 hp and a maximum torque of 850 Newton meters. The maximum torque is already available from 1,600 rpm – 600 rpm above the idling speed. The Ghost sprints to 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds, and the top speed is limited to 250 km/h.

The new Ghost can be ordered immediately, and Rolls-Royce will only announce the prices at a later date.

Looks good.

I hate white cars though, looking forward to seeing more pics as the day goes on.

New Ghost and new S-class in the same week. It's "Luxury September" this year.

Like the minimalistic approach of the exterior, no fussy lines for no reason or just to create ‘sculpture’. Like all new cars, it’ll take time to get use to.

Hoping to see those monoblock wheels that were on the test car too.

Sweet facelift much better than the first one.

Oh dear, I was expecting something more elegant and refined than that bonnet shut line and those headlights looks worse than their Chinese knock offs.

It’s less vulgar but still too opulent IMO.
All RR look like Hummer H3 sedan versions to me, nothing to do with elegance or good taste. It’s just personal

Well it is an improvement, but it's still old man luxury. I do like it though, but the Flying Spur is still the car of choice between the two. Maybe it will have more visual punch in a darker colors, LHD and a interior color other than white. Not the best launch colors and the RHD just kills the prospective for me.

Looks good. Will be nice in black. But interior is very conservative.

I need to see it in black but I think I like it. Only thing that looks really bad is that horizontal assortment of parking sensors in the back.
Funny how the taillights look so inspired by the W222 S class. The ghost lighting in the dashboard is a bit much given the star roof-lining.
