Porsche 911 Facelift Spied during Boxer Engine Duet
fa706d49582f02f86ff694db2b3ddfa5.webp

Porsche is almost ready to offer the facelifted 911 to the world and we couldn’t just sit and wait, so we’re brining you a spy video that shows two 911 prototypes in a glorious Boxer duet.

Zuffenhausen’s flat six soundtrack is enough music to our ears when coming from a single engine, but the duet makes us thankful for the existence of these superb six-cylinder mills. One of the singers (no pun intended) if a 911 Turbo.

Despite the fact that no major tech changes are expected for the Turbo when the revamp hits, the engineers are determined to extract every bit of performance available - they even crashed the 911 Turbo prototype during a Nurburgring run back in May.

Nonetheless, the 911 Turbo is expected to receive a major upgrade in 2017. Rumor has it Porsche is working on ahybridization plan, which will see the company transfer the petrol-electric knowledge gained with the 918 Spyder to the 911 and Panaera. To be more specific, the Germans are believed to be working on new range-topping versions of the two. With a little help from the electric motor friends, the two should climb to about 700 hp.

We’ll remind you Porsche is also working on a new family of turbocharged four-cylinder Boxers. As far as the 911 is concerned, two of these powerplants could land at its back. The first is a 2.0-liter unit delivering 286 hp (290 PS) and 295 lb-ft (400 Nm) of torque, while the second is a 2.5-liter mill churning out 360 hp (365 PS) and 347 lb-ft (470 Nm) of torque.

At least one of these units will power the 911 and while they do come with their benefits, we’d like to enjoy our six-cylinder units while we can.

Appears to be a high-performance model
A 2015 Porsche 911 has been caught undisguised in a parking lot.

While we can only see the front of the car, the pictures reveal a new front bumper and restyled air intakes. The model also has center locking wheels and Turbo-style side mirrors which suggest this is a high-performance variant.

Porsche has remained coy about the facelifted 911 but it is expected to feature a variety of familiar engines. However, they will likely be upgraded for improved performance.

That is a 991 with the Sport Design package, not the LCI front.

2012 Porsche 911 - 14.9.2011

Porsche's Sales and Marketing boss has revealed the company hasn't ruled out a 911 plug-in hybrid.

Speaking to Automotive News, Bernhard Maier said Porsche has a "lot of ideas" for a 911 plug-in hybrid but none of them have been confirmed for production. He went on to say "The 918 Spyder shows that Porsche has the capability to produce very convincing hybrid sports cars."

While Maier wouldn't commit to making a 911 plug-in hybrid he said he is a true believer in the technology and people are beginning to understand the benefits that plug-in hybrids offer.

The only observable change besides the new steering wheel is the addition of a new infotainment system. My guess is that this system would be based on the one in the next Panamera or a derivative of the one found in the 918...

2016 Porsche 911 Carrera to have a 2.7-liter turbo with up to 407 PS
New details are starting to emerge about the turbocharged engines that will power the facelifted Porsche 911.

According to Motoring's sources, the entry-level model will use a turbocharged 2.7-liter six-cylinder engine that develops up to 407 PS (300 kW). Despite the improved performance, the engine will be more economical as it will reportedly consume less than 8L/100km (29.4 mpg US / 35.3 mpg UK).

The 911 Carrera S will also feature a turbocharged engine and it is expected to displace 3.4-liters. Specifications remain a mystery but it should produce more than 407 PS (300 kW).

The facelifted Porsche 911 is expected to be unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show, so expect to learn more in the coming months.

Porsche is unlikely to offer the base Carrera with as much power, after seeing the past increase :

996 Carrera 300hp (1998 - 2001)
996 Carrera 320hp (2001 - 2004)
997 Carrera 325hp (2004 - 2008)
997 Carrera 345hp (2008 - 2011)
991 Carrera 350hp (2001 - 2015)

I think the 991 Carrera FL will more likely have this engine rated at 360-370hp. But a Cayman Turbo with this engine rated at 407hp might be possible.

Porsche to decide on a Hybrid 911 this year, says CEO

Porsche boss Matthias Mueller has said that a Porsche 911 Hybrid is under consideration with the decision to be taken this year.
new line of turbocharged engines across the range. The only models expected to remain naturally aspirated are the hardcore GT3 and GT3 RS derivatives.

Porsche is already offering plug-in hybrid versions of the Panamera and the Cayenne as well as the 918 Spyder, so it’s only natural to develop a similar version for its core model, the 911.

Matthias Mueller said to AutoNews: “Why not? That is a technique which we at Porsche are very familiar with, so we can suppose that we could have plug-ins all over the model range, not only to save fuel but also to boost the performance of these cars.”

Porsche is keen to stress that even its plug-in hybrid models must be able to deliver a true sports car performance and handling. After all, the 918 Spyder is the perfect demonstrator of this recipe.

The final decision is still pending but judging but what Mueller said, we would not be surprised if a 911 Hybrid gets the final green light. The 911 facelift, or 991.2 as it’s known, will make its debut at this year’s Frankfurt Motor Show.

Very classy. The only minor tweaks I’d make (not that it really needs it) is adding the 3D .2 taillights and the .2 sports steering wheel.

Otherwise, the 50th anniversary is a future collector car.

Romans International consistently has the classiest inventory of just about any dealership. Not gaudy like Alain Class motors of Dubai.
