Countryman [Official] Mini Countryman

So, in order to fit this monstrosity onto their forecourts what are all the MINI dealers going to do with all those unsold Clubmans?

Because all the trendy Starbucks and Macbook living people who'll be driving this car, don't care about the weight of a car.

"Image not product"... or, almost, the Countryman sure has all the MINI appearance it needs. I still have a hard time believing that it could be more than 1,400 kgs.

So, in order to fit this monstrosity onto their forecourts what are all the MINI dealers going to do with all those unsold Clubmans?

They could give one white/black JCW Clubbie to me. I'm sure I could find some use of it :D

Don't count your chickens before they have hatched......:eusa_doh:

I showed the wife pics of the Beachcomber Concept and she was impressed (She is not very fond of the X1) So she said let's wait for the Mini SAV to replace the 120i.

Today I e-mailed her the official pics of the MINI Countrymen....She said it looks nothing like the concept and its bloody ugly...

Well maybe it's a good thing...I can now try for an X1 as a replacement for the 120i :D

Ok , 2nd day and I don't like it. Small, Low, Weak. This can't rival Rav4 or Qashqai. They have better ground clearnce and more space.

RAV4 and Quashquai? Are you serious? That's like comparing a Hyundai with a Mercedes.
But to each his own. It's just that the comparison baffles me...

Looks exactly as expected, i don't see anything fundamentally wrong with its design, classic mini proportions in mini suv suit.

The thing for me is that there is no other car like this on the market which could work out well to the advantage of the MINI Brand.
In real life the car is deliciously small and compact which will appeal to some buyers.

It will be a perfect companion for the MINI Clubman which despite the unnecessary comments that car receives. Is still selling to customers who like to inject a dash of individualism into their vehicle concepts.

Yes, people are actually using Clubmans as family cars.

What is the targetted rivals if not Rav4 and Qashqai ? I can't think of other cars in the same category.

And Klier, I remember once Scott mentioned that X1 had the Qashqai in mind, and that is a BMW not a Mini, which is one step above.

It's much lower than I expected. It's like a pseudo-SUV or a crossover similar to Audi's A4/A6 Allroad models. I still prefer standard Mini models but I think I like it more than the Clubman.

MINI Cooper S Countryman All4

:usa7uh:

BMW Group sure loves looooong model names. I can't wait for MINI John Cooper Works Countryman All4. :D

Mini is a novelty brand and thus serve hedonic needs more than anything else. The Qashqai and RAV4 are your bog standard SUV bought by very price concious middle class and lower middle class people. Price and service cost is what they look at more than anything else. Minis on the other hand are bought by aspirational, trendy and opinion leading individuals who have higher disposable income than a Qashiqai who would have to think very hard about ticking the box of any option other than metallic paint.

From my perspective, the only car that could sway people away from buying a Countryman is the X1, though the Mini still leans more towards being a lifestyle product.

^^ Well put.

Mini is a lifestyle brand. Because of this the soft-roader approach makes much more sense than a full-blown SUV approach which probably would have been more costly and would have exposed Mini to more risk (I don't know much about the mechanical underpinnings of this car, but I presume that it's a repurposed Clubman).

Because of this I see the X1 as the only true competitor. Rav4 buyers don't fit the same profile.

Quashquai proportion wise, yes. Everything else, no.

Thanks for those pics Ree. Lookin' sexy!

It would be interesting to see the result of a poll between the new Mini Countryman and the BMW X1. We should make one soon.

MINI

Mini (stylized as MINI) is a British automotive brand founded in 1969, owned by German BMW since 2000, and used by them for a range of small cars assembled in the United Kingdom, Austria, and the Netherlands. The word Mini has been used in car model names since 1959, and in 1969 it became a brand in its own right when the name "Mini" replaced the separate "Austin Mini" and "Morris Mini" car model names.
