Oh that Paceman's stance looks real athletic!

Scott I've got a few books on Minis, this is the very first time I have ever seen an original 4 door Mini, do you know if the car still existsis? It's a great looking car, shame that cannot be said for the current MINI range.

What CM & PM lack & need is an increase in size. And that's coming with Mk2 models.

Not necessarily. A CM has the same size as a Daihatsu Terios and the latter sells quite good - it can sit comfortably 4 people and has amazing off-road capabilities. It's not just an urban SUV, but it's mostly used as one. So, why shouldn't MINI offer a luxury compact SUV?

On the other hand, this size isn't really practical. If CM and PM could grow a segment and reach Nissan Qasqai size territory, they could sell like hot cakes...

No they don't they are already at the point where they no longer drive like a MINI should, any increase in size is just going to make this even more apparent that they are no longer MINI's. I think BMW needs to restart another of the brands they own, Triumph would be a good one IMO, keep MINI's mini, anything larger which BMW want to use the cachet of Britishness, Triumph. I'd also use Triumph on any new roadster, I think the Triumph brand has more appeal and relevance than BMW for a sports car, especially one like the Z4.

Increase the size? come on, they are huge already. And what I've read the suspension is too harsh and not as fun as previous versions of Mini. In my opinion, driving a Mini is far more important than size in this segment.

There are Countryman and PACEMAN replacements coming in the next generation.
The Countryman is actually now going to be a proper SUV it will be more solid and rugged looking its inspiration is to bring the sportier off-road fun from the Dakar winning Countryman.
Its new positioning allows for a more sportier looking PACEMAN which gets 5drs this time around but still retains the PACEMAN look instead of a proper Coupe-like SAV like the BMW X4 and X6 and soon the X2. Which new Countryman and PACEMAN are siblings to the new X1 and X2.

Believe it or not F55 is not the first New generation MINI with five doors. They experimented with the other two cycles as well.
I am not sure if the car still exists, I would like to think it does somewhere I have never seen it before except only in pictures. But BMW has "property" including a large basement under its HQ where everything is kept and stored. The warehouses on the outskirts of Munich, think the end of the Indiana Jones movie filled with crates etc and substitute for cars , some in crates some without.

The new MINI works better in the flesh. There is a lot of detail that goes unnoticed in pictures , especially around the front overhang. One thing I do not like about the MINI is the inclusion of roof bars as an option it is something that does not sit well. It was added after Designworks designers saw surfers with their boards strapped to their MINIs in Santa Monica.

I love this mini.

If I had the money to do it I would try and have a mini like this recreated, but speced as a Cooper 1275s.

And now for something completely different...but worthy.

2014 MINI Countryman Gets Top Safety Pick from IIHS

A new batch of tests were run by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety in the US and the data was just released, showing a surprising winner and some rather controversial results. The 2014 MINI Cooper Countryman was declared a 2014 Top Safety Pick, acing most of the tests.

The car received Good ratings on the small and moderate overlap front tests, the side crash test, roof strength and head & seats restraints. The safety features also made a good point, the Countryman being fitted, as standard, with side airbags (including head curtain airbags), passenger knee airbag, electronic stability control and antilock brakes.

According to the report issued by the IIHS, in case of a small overlap frontal crash, the data taken from the dummy showed “a low risk of any significant injuries in a crash of this severity. The dummy’s movement was well controlled. The dummy’s head loaded the frontal airbag, which stayed in front of the dummy until rebound.”

The results were even better in the moderate overlap front crash test, where the car received good ratings in all categories used by the institute to measure the effectiveness of the safety features.

An interesting test is the one that measures the roof strength, in case the vehicle rolls over after a crash. The test is conducted by pushing a metal plate against one side of it at a slow but constant speed. If the roof shows that it can withstand up to four times the weight of the car before caving in 5 inches, it gets a good rating. The Countryman’s roof showed that it can hold nearly 5 times as much.

MINI Releases a New Kind of Guide for the 2015 Countryman

We’re simply laughing as we’re writing this post, having just watched the latest commercials posted online by MINI. In a daring attempt to make the new Countryman a lot more popular, the marketing guys up in Oxford (or maybe it was Munich?) came up with some really funny ideas that would focus on the extra features of the car.
Since the Countryman is nowhere close to the original idea of Sir Isaac Isigonis, the aim had to be on other things. While the original creator wanted a small car that would help you and your family keep going though times of financial burdens, the modern models are now bigger and more expensive than most cars on the road.

The first 4-door car that wore the winged badge on the bonnet is quite big, by anyone’s standards. However, that was whole idea behind it, even though they knew it would upset some of the fans of the brand.

Even so, the added practicality cannot be denied. Call the Countryman whatever you want but it has plenty of space for up to 5 people (as you’re about to see in the videos below), adjustable seats in the back and new engines that will do up to 58.9 mpg if you’re careful enough (another aspect exemplified in one of the videos).

Nothing new, you’d say, but the Countryman just got a refresh for 2015 and now has plenty more to show off with. New engines, new features and the ALL4 all-wheel drive system. We told you all about it before but now, it’s time to see part of them in action. Check them out.

except my 1.6 Cooper D never got within 20% of the claimed MPG. Mine averaged 6.5 l/100km, over 31,000km, which is about 43 mpg.

MINI

Mini (stylized as MINI) is a British automotive brand founded in 1969, owned by German BMW since 2000, and used by them for a range of small cars assembled in the United Kingdom, Austria, and the Netherlands. The word Mini has been used in car model names since 1959, and in 1969 it became a brand in its own right when the name "Mini" replaced the separate "Austin Mini" and "Morris Mini" car model names.
