Are those bars painted ?

Measuring nearly 18 feet, nose-to-tail, with a passenger compartment better suited to a private jet, the big sedan is expected to begin somewhere north of $250,000, and with extensive customization, some versions are likely to nudge closer to $1 million.

Crazy article. One graphic says 200K and then the above says 250K to 1M. Yeah right. Figure on 200K.

$1,000,000 for the Pullman; I can only imagine that being a fully armoured version.

If the Pullman is outrageously expensive then Mercedes must do something to make it unique because there are dozens of companies that can chop and extend an S class reasonably well. It could be a white elephant.

The more I think about it, the more I am certain it will be a Mercedes-Maybach Pullman.

Are those bars painted ?

Suspect they are chrome plated metal pieces like typically used on MB grilles. In addition to the twin horizontal V12 bars the new Mercedes-Maybach grille accentuates the recessed verticals, perhaps to differentiate from either the Mercedes-Benz grille on one hand and the Maybach grille on the other. The square in the center usually houses Distronic radar sensors, and yes, the bars on that cover may be painted on to reduce interference. :)

Mercedes reportedly rules out Maybach AMG variants

Mercedes has big plans for Maybach but unfortunately they don't include AMG engines.

While the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class will be offered with a variety of engines, S-Class development director Dr Hermann-Joseph Storp told Car Magazine we shouldn't expect to see either the twin-turbo 5.5-liter V8 or the twin-turbo 6.0-liter V12 that develops 630 PS (463 kW) and 1,000 Nm (737 lb-ft) of torque. While this is a tad puzzling, it makes sense because Maybach is focused on luxury and comfort while AMG is all about performance.

Storp also dismissed suggestions that the previous Maybach 57 and 62 have damaged the image of the new model. As he explained, "We sold over 3000 cars and still have many customers asking us for another car like this, people who’ve owned and appreciated the old Maybach."

You can look forward to Carmax selling used S600 Maybach in 12 months time for 100k. I don't believe this car will hold its value well given that it's not a stronger proposition over a LWB S600 decked out with options.

I doubt it. Half price in one year? I get that it will depreciated, but I doubt at that rate.

Not everyone's impressed with it:

Here's Why The Mercedes-Maybach S600 Isn't As Impressive As You Think

Mercedes-Benz makes great luxury super-sedans, and their newly unveiled Mercedes-Maybach S600 is no different, touting cutting-edge comforts that your E-class-leasing manager could only dream of. But here's something your boss doesn't know: This $250,000 car is almost completely useless.

^^ so jalopnik is saying virtually the same thing I was saying, that it's a S-Bach. An S-class with the maybach name and an extra reclining chair.

Stupid article IMO. The whole point of the car is the rear seat space, not the front cabin. They also don't know what other finishes are available, no one does yet. The car is a super S-Class, and Mercedes isn't making it out to be anything more than that. Sure you can buy used Maybach 62 and you will have a completely outdated and rather unattractive vehicle also. Dumb as a can full of rocks article.

My biggest dream list for Mercedes-Benz has just gotten one wish bigger: One day a full on, one off, exclusive Maybach model that is head and shoulders above whatever the brand new S-Class is of that era. Just to shut up clueless, so called automotive writers. That, a retro Mercedes-Benz, and another beautiful SL.

^he he, Quite an impassioned response there Marcus.

I didn't intend to raise your blood pressure like that.

No problem Rob, just a small vent opening...lol.

Coming in April 2015, the Mercedes-Maybach S600 takes the perfection of the S-Class and soars to new heights. The interior is eight inches longer than the standard S-Class, and rear passengers will especially enjoy the generous legroom. Unparalleled comfort and sophistication awaits throughout, highlighted by hand-stitched Nappa leather throughout the interior—including the headliner, pillars and entire seats—with optional seat buttons, pillows and pillow stitching on the dashboard. All in all, the Mercedes-Maybach will offer seven unique designo interior packages to choose from.

The broad spectrum of personalization options does not end there, though. In addition to a palette of 14 standard designo Manufaktur exterior paints developed using a special process, the Mercedes-Maybach S600 will feature eight additional exclusive paint colors.

Step into a world of unprecedented exclusivity and individuality—a world beyond superlatives.

I think this will be a hit, if no where else but in China.

I agree with you it was a F&cking useless crap article, the guy doesn't mention anything about the main feature change over a regular S-class its huge sumptuous rear seat legroom!! Why didnt he take a photo of the back seat of this and regular S600, he probably only sat in the front seat to run the car down?

Mercedes-Maybach

In November 2014, Daimler announced the revival of the Maybach name as a sub-brand of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class (W222), positioned as an upscale version akin to the more sporty Mercedes-AMG sub-brand.
