S-Class (W222/C217/A217) [Official] Mercedes-Maybach S600 (X222)

The Mercedes-Benz W222 is the sixth generation of the Mercedes Benz S-Class. Body styles: W222 (standard), V222 (long), X222 (limousine, Mercedes-Maybach), VV222 (pullman), C127 (coupé), A217 (convertible). Predecessor: S-Class (W221). Successor: S-Class (W223). Production: 2013–2020.
Not sure about the extra new glass between the C and D pillar. It<s rounded in a typical limousine fashion but i think it should have been more edgy to matches the rest of the car.
Yes, to be absolutely honest, the c pillar with the rounded-off window doesn't really work for me either. However, overall it is as expected.

The interior certainly looks comfortable .....even if the seats look a little bit like they've come from a Las Vegas hotel room (the buttoned quilting suggests a modern re-working of 70s Lincoln interiors).

However, my petty critique will have no influence on the kind of person who will actually buy one of these ......I'm sure Daimler has done their homework and know exactly the tastes of their intended clients.

My feelings exactly. A bolder grille would have been the perfect thing, but as is it is a solid effort IMO. It is going to sell, long as the price is right, about 200K in the U.S. market. No sticker shock there since the S65 AMG is in the same price range already.

What's the bet it will be more like 250K?

It's a forum: I'm free to have an opinion and I don't have to agree with anyone.

Seylan suddenly appeared when an ex-member was banned. I wouldn't worry about it.
I don't know who you are talking about and I don't appreciate it. Next time, get real proof before you accuse someone.

Anyway, the reason why I disagree with 'some' people is because I find this car to be very underwhelming in almost all aspects. It's just not special enough. There's a huge gap between a 7 Series and a RR Ghost, compared to this and the standard S-Class. The Maybach sub-brand might attract a much bigger market now, but its ultra-high-end status has been degraded.

The Mercedes-AMG Maybach with Exclusive Nappa porcelain / black leather and designo myrtle sunburst brown gloss wood. Note the Exclusive Nappa leather may be standard on the 'Bach while the designo semi-aniline tanned leather with quilting is optional. :)

Seems too high as MBUSA spokeman Chris Bokich says to expect about $200,000. :)

2016 Mercedes-Maybach S600: First Look

  • "It's actually going to be more normal than everybody thinks," Mercedes spokesman Chris Bokich told us. The "guidance that we're giving is approximately $200,000, so it's not going to be the most expensive S-Class."

  • That doesn't mean Maybach will stick to just the S-Class. "It could, in the future, produce its own vehicle," Bokich said, noting that the new AMG-GT sports car — from AMG, another Mercedes sub-brand — isn't based on any existing Benz.

Exactly my thoughts. Mercedes indeed has some definite plans for Maybach.

I prefer the look of those seats ......even if it's not quite as soft and natural as the semi-aniline leather option.

They aren't going to make the same mistake twice. 200K is perfect IMO. That is less than the S65 AMG and will ensure sales. China is going to gobble this car up also. Now I bet with all the options it will be 250K, but still much less than the 400K some Maybach 57S models were going for 2 years ago.

Suspect one of the 'BACH's options is the MAGIC SKY CONTROL. Front and rear panes can be controlled separately. :)

  • As standard the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class is fitted with a panoramic sliding sunroof. This roof system and its large glass areas make for an especially bright and friendly ambience in the interior. It consists of a fixed panoramic glass roof in the rear section and a top-sliding power sunroof so that the interior can be ventilated as desired. For the first time, the sliding sunroof is available with optional MAGIC SKY CONTROL technology from Mercedes-Benz: the glass can be switched to light or dark at the touch of a button (optional extra for the Mercedes-Maybach S 600). Text source: Daimler press release
  • For the first time, the MAGIC SKY CONTROL panoramic roof is offered with a sliding and stationary roof that totals over 18 square feet/1.7 square meters. With the push of a button, the tint of the glass instantly changes from blocking over 99% of incoming light to going significantly clearer than an ordinary sunroof. This creates an open-air feeling and also reduces heat inside the vehicle. The SPD-SmartGlass that makes up the impressive MAGIC SKY CONTROL panoramic roof option on the Mercedes-Maybach is even larger in total surface area than the roof offered on the S-Class Coupe, which itself is three times larger than the MAGIC SKY CONTROL roofs that are currently offered on the Mercedes-Benz SLK and SL roadsters.
  • Joseph M. Harary, President and CEO of Research Frontiers commented after the debut of the new Mercedes-Maybach S-Class S 600 at Daimler's press conference at the LA Auto Show: "Light is the new luxury, and Daimler has shown once again that it can make a beautifully luxurious sedan that offers its customers the ability to instantly and elegantly control the amount of daylight coming into the vehicle through impressively large glass roofs. The popular MAGIC SKY CONTROL option on the SLK, SL roadsters, and on the S-Class Coupe and now the Mercedes-Maybach S 600 all use Research Frontiers' patented SPD-SmartGlass technology, the smartest glass in the world." As a car lover i am not entirely satisfied with what they had done to this Maybach sub brand..need something more groundbreaking but i can see Mercedes trying to market the Maybach as a work horse for the ultra rich people, and let the Rolls Royce phantom as a snoobing tools

sorry for the english

100 posts and I have not yet read one good compelling reason why this had to be called a "Maybach" from either Mercedes or its fans. The car would have made just as strong a business case named S4/5/600 XL.

That is true, but I suspect that one day (if this is a success) Maybach will get to do their own car. This is purely a sub branding building exercise IMO. The Maybach part is pretty much matterless right now, IMO. It looks good on the back of the car and will cause pointing and staring on the road, but I truly think at some point Maybach will be a stand alone car again and this is the way to get moving towards that goal.

^ They may have trouble ramping up production. Still remember delayed availability / cancellation on the V222. :)

Could be. On a different note, I would like to see a GLS 600 Maybach. Yes that would be a GL with the V12 from the S65 AMG, with the full 630hp. That would sell like hotcakes in the Arab world and other select markets. Change the body some and max out the interior and it would be perfect IMO. Just do it.

I completely agree .......this EWB model was planned anyway, so naming it Maybach is a clever way of keeping the Maybach name alive .........giving Daimler some further options in the future.

I would ask all the people who are so negative about this model being named Maybach: How does it in any way hurt either Mercedes or Maybach?

This is not a decision that has been made lightly, so let's just wait and see where it leads.

Mercedes-Maybach

In November 2014, Daimler announced the revival of the Maybach name as a sub-brand of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class (W222), positioned as an upscale version akin to the more sporty Mercedes-AMG sub-brand.
