SL-Class (R231) [Official] Mercedes-Benz SL (R231)

The Mercedes-Benz R231 is the sixth generation SL roadster, replacing the R230. Released in March 2012, it uses Mercedes-Benz's new 4.7 litre twin turbo V8 engine with a power output of 435 PS (320 kW; 429 hp). It was succeeded by the Mercedes-AMG R232. Production March 2011–2020. Model years: 2012–2020.
It'll grow on you...just you wait. :P

We'll see. I'm not writing the car off, but man that front is just way too large in the details. The grille, lights and the overall front end could have been much smaller, and more graceful that it is. The interior is beautiful and the rear is good. Front is messed up and the side profile is just plain goofy. I will see the car in person in about a month so there is always hope, but I doubt this one seriously.

I saw the relaese last night thanks to Artist but it was on my mobile so i didnt want to comment..
Now that i had time to look at the pictures and read the comments here my 5 cents.

The Interior i just love it i feel its perfect for the SL and the market it caters for.It looks amazing just amazing and classy and simple and the finish looks excellent. That wood interior i am shure the elder people who can afford and buy this car will love it.It looks so classy.

The exterior i love the side look off the car it looks great in both forms top down and with the roof on.Love the pics with the roof on and that glsss top looks outstanding.

The rear is very good and alsmost as we all expected i feel one off the nicest current MB rears.

The front here i see most off you hate or dislike the front yes it looks like the pics wont do justice to the car i personelly feel MB has done a great job on the new SL.Yes in some angles the lights looks out placed but i think in real it will be outstanding i cant wait to see this car in real...As with all thes ne MB cars when i see them in real they look amazing..

The SL's ass-ymetrical screen isn't done as a styling trait, I mean, if it was, then it's a very poor showing of asymmetrical art (which I usually hate anyway, btw). It just looks "off", like they were lazy or something. It looks absolutely horrid in the SLK, and less extreme in the SL, which makes it almost more awkward.... Like, they were hoping you wouldn't notice.... and many people don't or won't.... but those of us with helplessly extreme attention to detail, it'll drive us crazy.

THE (SL) icon, just not that dis-tinc-tive (serving to distinguish it from others.) anymore? :cry2:

Even the interior is a copy of the SLS AMG - speaking of which is a FAR better looking and way, way more special + unique car.

DAIMLER! Bring Sacco back, please!;)

Edit: Oh and one last thing. If you wanna gripe about 6er coupe/GC headlamps, the new Sl's looks hideous:t-banghea

Looks great in thses pics in the article i am liking it more and more and actually feeling the lights more and more..I want to see it in real.

Something I do really like on this design is how flawlessly executed in relationship the rocker panels are with the doors. They have the AMG modern style aggressive twist, however the upper part really cleverly twists right into what becomes the doors shutline.

Regarding all the Sacco talk, I wonder if he'd be interested for them to bring him in as a consultant of sorts. At least for the enthusiasts, it would be a wish to see just what the current design team could come up with, with him helping out. Who knows, maybe if Daimler was willing he wouldn't even want to do it. I'd love to be in a room and hear a conversation between him and the current Designers talking back and forth regarding M-B's current Designs (i.e how his opinion may differ, or agree with, for that matter, with theirs).

This thing is going to have PRESENCE in the flesh. Mark my words :p

As much as I dislike the styling or lack of it on the new SL - ALL Benz's especially in this price range have presence and it will.

DAMN That's a LOT OF ALUMINUM!

Will then handle, drive and steer better that it looks. I have NO doubt that this will be a technical tour-de-force and brilliant to drive. Pitty about the styling...

Presence is what this car will need, and it's what i'm betting on to truly sell me on the car. Right now it looks very small and relatively "normal", i.e it doesn't have the presence of the iconic SL or a $100K+ car. I'm hoping IRL there's some magic that pops out at you via the design. Also, I'm assuming that due to it looking so small/compact in pics, the size alone IRL should sell some of that "Premium 2 Door" aura, hopefully.

Also, and I'm surprised nobody's mentioned this yet. The SL has been the ONE Benz that never was "evolutionary" as much as "revolutionary". It kept a general bloodline that is always necessary, but since it runs for such a long production cycle, it always looks dramatically different regarding the new one. This SL is the first SL I can think of that looks very evolutionary and similar to the model that it replaces. Not saying this is a bad thing, however.

I tried to say it all in one sentence:) And I could not agree more K-A.:t-cheers:

I have to ad that (apart from not being that different from a SLS AMG cabin) the beauty of the SL's interior lies in the details;)

It's a 'connoisseur' type of cabin with excellent details:usa7uh:
