In darker shades, the headlight units look....odd.

Agreed. They could have waited until they had that autonomous driving thingy sorted out. At least then they'd have some novelty to show on the S like they always used to. Because all we got right now is some refinement, nothing really new. Or I am missing some crucial info.
Like David said there is Augmented Reality HUD, Digital Lights also others I can think of are the illuminated seat belt buttons, closing and opening the sunroof by gesture control, automatic opening of the rear sunshades when the driver turns his head backwards, rear seat front facing airbags, the car can adjust the seat, mirrors etc. for you based on your dimensions, heating elements in the headrest cushions, armrests and door panels, 3D drivers instrumentation screen, voice activation from all seats of the car of infotainment, ventilation, etc. Sharing of music, phone calls etc. from front seat infotainment screen to rear seat screens.

Yep and you know what over on MBWorld some actual BUYERS are putting orders in and that is far more important that what some fans (i.e. NON BUYERS) are doing.
This is an absolutely idiotic argument! Firstly, current S-class owners have no choice. There is no alternative to the S-class on the market today. Secondly, a yesterday's fan is a today's customer. Just like me. I've been an MB fan all my life... but I am an AUDI owner now))) I am a former BMW owner))) My favorite brand did not meet my needs 2 times in a row)

Nice car - some flaws.
Biggest issue for me is the headlight polka dot design.
I would prefer my quick - and poor - photoshop in a nice execution.
What do you think?

One looks new and the other we have seen for years, without changes we could not even compare designs to know which is better and which is not, to renew is to live, otherwise we will get bored

I appreciate your afford.
But with all due respect, that Photoshop.... doesn't look good after all. I prefer the original design.

That makes no sense. If there is no alternative to the S-Class, why go cross-shopping then?

I think the grille should be less rounded, but I love the "angry" looking headlights.
I thought the same thing. Looks like it has a fat belly.

There are always alternatives. People simply have different tastes. Some love this design and some do not. It does not make anyone right or wrong, just a matter of preference.

Saying that buyers have no choice or that there is no alternative is an idiot statement because the class is chock full of competitors. Just because you don't like them doesn't mean that other buyers won't. Quit trying to pretend that your hosed thinking is the the only way here and if you have been following the conversation you would have understand what I saying instead of butting in making dumb ass statements. If the S was so objectionable people wouldn't be ordering one. If you're a MB fan and you own an Audi now then clearly people are able to make the change if the S isn't for them. No alternative is ignorant bullshit.

As good as it is, I still think that the W223 comes an year and a half earlier than it should. The W222 suffers no decline in sales due to strong competition and it easily could dominate 18 additional months during which the W223 could adopt newer technology to counter act the future competition.

On the contrary, I think it's right on time. They don't just delay debuts based on sales. That would mess up a whole lot of product launches and would result in the C-class debuting the interior and exterior design first.

This pic shows how the entering in the W140 was easier then in the W223. Specially for older people (which, lets be honest, are those who have the money for an new S). Although the more laid down A and C pillars are making the car more aerodynamic and looking sportier, the entry is difficult. And thats a fact.

Funny, the W140 was originally supposed to have a much lower roof. Of course once the design team was ordered to raise the roof and consequently increase the height of the windows, the car was criticized upon debut for having an awkward looking greenhouse.

Thats why buttons are the best.
But yeah, for all those functions nowadays, you would need 200 of them in the console...

You don't need 200 buttons, you need a few and the rest of the functions can be relegated to the main screen. Both the Panamera and the Continental GT have nailed this and managed to do something so much more beautiful then a huge vertical screen.
