But a very justified one!

Last weekend I saw a silver C parked on the side of the road and I saw another one driving. At first for both, from a distance, I was pretty excited to meet another S. It took me just up to the moment I was passing the C's that I realised they were not an S.

Driving my own S, I felt pretty stupid and my purse felt worse. On the pictures they really look similar, but if you see one in a light color in real life, they are from a distance identical.
Of course if you place them next to each other, you will see the difference. I'm very satisfied with my S and I know why I bought it (space, ride, comfort,...) but if someone of the Mercedes design team is reading this forum: was it really necessary to make the S and C so resembling?! Do not claim to have the goal to compete with Bentley, Rolls Royce, etc. with the S class if you already make such a similar light version of the S class, namely the C class...

I feel compelled to echo the above statement. Now that the W222 is becoming far more commonplace on German roads, I also find its' appearance far from captivating. While remaining in awe regarding the cars' technical advancements, it is (in my subjective opinion) a rather boring looking automobile. I would speculate that it will become even more visually uninspiring as soon as the BMW 7 series and Audi A8 successors are presented. In fact, I would not be at all surprised if VWs' Phaeton successor is visually more exciting.

A bit of a pity as the C217 S-Class coupe is gorgeous.

Today I thought I saw my first W205 parked in a multi-storey car park until I realized that it must be a W222 as W205 is not yet launched at the place I work.

I have seen many so far, have to admit I have the same feeling towards the new S but only when they don't come with the right rims.With right ones the car smartens up immediately.

I've seen several C-Klasse and S-Klasse on the road. I have absolutely no problem with recognising which car I have in front or in back of me. And as for the car looking bland, I don't get it. It has a massive appearance that can't be mistaken for anything else than a S-Klasse.

This new one is simpler and more cohesive, with a trunk that doesn't rise above the fenders and a much softer, more incognito, anonymous look. I like that in a big German sedan. It should be understated, it shouldn't shout or call attention to itself. It should just be.

The trade off is that the design isn't very interesting or exciting. It is an attractive, slightly imposing sedan with elements of art, like the design of the tail lights, the slim LED strip in the headlights, and the three pointed star up front that acts kind of like a sight to take down pedestrians. It's all very understated

It is understated and that's the beauty of S class.

I agree. If I wanted a splashy car, I would have bought a splashy car. I love the style and presence of the S Class, it is a quiet and classy presence IMO.

Regarding the C looking like an S, yes there are some strong similarities. But as an S owner, it doesn't bother me. I don't want to go around showing it off, as a matter of fact I removed the S550 badge. We enjoy the car and don't need others approval or need it to look radically different from the C in order to enjoy the car.

Thanks for judging me... and several other S-owners that I discussed with and also complained about the resemblance. Now we know that we are driving a car that was not intended for people like us. I thought we were giving opinions about cars and not about people...

Hat's off to you and your acquaintances for owning. I have a hard time imagining how bothersome it must be to drive your fabulous automobile and having your mood ruined by a $50k lookalike that does not even come close to compete in terms of room, comfort and features. If you are that bothered as an owner, I believe you would be in a very small minority.

Just found out the non-hybrid S400 is available in Hong Kong. It comes with the 336hp twin-turbo V6 engine.

This is my second encounter with the S-class, I must say it looks magnificent in real life! It has a lot of presence, IMO even more so than the Bentley Continental Flying Spur. That's probably the reason why I couldn't be bothered to take the photo of the Bentley beside it, lol...
