That and the 9-speed automatic are the reasons why I'm waiting for the modelyear 2015 (comes in June/July 2014 here in Germany). If I order one now, I've got to wait 8 months or so. Then I can better wait till june/july 2014 and get a S-Klasse with the features I want.

and this is the most "standard" car I have ever seen :) why would you buy an S class that does NOT have ANY OPTION on it?

Mine also has standard headlights and has even less options: no nappa leather (just standard leather), no distronic, ...
I ordered a S350 with the same rims and metallic color. In contrast to the car in the video, I took the memory package for the seats and also ordered the cooled seats and the cup holders.
Why? Some of my reasons:
-first of all: I already paid $117500 for this car (European price), this is quite a lot of money for me. Every one has to judge this according to his/her own abilities...
-when I sell this car in the future, the price of the options is the first thing I lose... You can add a lot of options but it stays for most people the same car.
-The standard equipment was already almost everything I want in a car. I always looked for the following in my cars: metallic paint, leather, good airco, gps, heated seats, parking sensors/camera. For my previous cars I also added an AMG sports package to make them more distinct to a normal model. For the S now, in my opinion the latter was not necessary...
-all those technical highlights are in my opinion the first things that fail --> I really hate it when my car lets me down...
-I do not use most of those things. I am now already frightened when my S warns me when I'm too close from the car ahead of me... My previous mercedes had an automatic parking aid, but I never used it... Now in the new S, I use it occasionally when I don't forget :)
-...
But anyhow: I'm very satisfied with my car, it drives wonderful and I'm already enjoying it for almost 2 months...

Mercedes-Benz clocks 30,000+ orders for 2014 S-Class in less than three months

Daimler receives over 30,000 orders for new Mercedes S class

Sources within Daimler have revealed Mercedes-Benz has received more than 30,000 orders for the new S-Class.
It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out the S-Class is going to be a huge success for Mercedes-Benz but it turns out the car is more popular than expected as already more than 30,000 people have ordered the W222 in less than three months since the car went on sale. As you would imagine, the biggest market for the S-Class was at home in Germany but neighboring European countries have also shown the new flagship sedan a great amount of appreciation.
The 2014 S-Class went on sale in Europe towards the end of July and in late September it hit the Chinese market as well. Last week it was introduced in United States where it kicks off at 92,900 USD for the base S550 model.
Mercedes-Benz has big plans for the revamped S-Class as they plan on introducing several new versions, including an extra-long wheelbase, coupe, cabriolet and a Maybach-replacing Pullman which will be almost six meters long. In addition, some will be available as plug-in hybrids while others will also be offered with the AMG touch.

^ Certain portions of the video look very low-quality editing and processing, almost amateurish; others are up to par. Something is off = did they farm the ad out to a new outfit? Usually they are so crisp.

It's a montage of several video clips...

I wouldn't be surprised if it was more, given that was right before the economy took a downturn. Luxury car sales were through the roof at that point.

I have a dealer who wants to sell me a 2010 Flying Spur at the same price point as my S550. Should I entertain this?
