I'm no longer driving the best car in the world :(
The engine doesn't need any replacement... it would be great but that's it.
It's old school and perfect in a car like this. It's not a performance car but an aristo-beast!
I love it!

People who want the engine to upgrade need to understand that no one else offers a V12 like this in a car like this..
The day they do..be sure the AMG will up the game..

For now this is already ridiculous.. and its been so for the last 10 years or so..

And to be honest no other car company will ever challenge this car, as they can't shift cars of this level.. not BMW nor Audi..
Then you have porsche with the panamera, but they don't play the V12 game..
Finally you have the the high end cars like Bentley and RR, once again such a brutal engine does not serve their philosophy.

So tbh..i don't see anyone anytime soon bothering this engine/car..

I love the car, but i admit a thought it will get minimum 650 HP or even 700 HP.
The 630 HP are the same as in the W221, but what i realy dont understand: the acceleration time from 0 to 100 is worse than in the 63 AMG.
Cant wait for a V12 BRABUS version

^ It is not only worse than the S 63, it also may lag a S 550 4-Matic once tested. Previous version (221) S 550 with 4-Matic and twin-turbo 4.7L V8 has tested 4.2 seconds. 4-Matic is name of the game for acceleration nowadays, not outright power and torque. The S 65 will be for those that simply want the most opulent and option-free experience outright.

For some reason the S550 has gotten slower. C&D tested it at 4.9 secs to 60 mph now. That seems really slow to me??

Magic Sky Control? Saved for further time. I'm sure it'll be available for full S-class range till next summer.

Where is the 4Matic?! 4.3s to 100km\h? I'm really dissapointed :(. M279 modification of the very old M275. Comparing to 5.5 V8 with direct injection and so on it looks like vapour engine. And I was expecting 650 hp at least.

And now as potential buyer of S65, despite I like V12 and the design of S65 front end, I'm leaning to AWD S63 with the same bulk of options.
Waiting till spring or summer.

No doubt that must be the RWD model, since 4Matic is not out yet. As I said, old 4matic put down 4.2 0-60, roughly matching the claimed 4.3 sec for the new AMG 65 0-100.

Mercedes-Benz should be ashamed of themselves for not launching the car with the 9-speed..

In my opinion, the 65 is obsolete. No investment on brand-new engine, etc. An offering just to have a v12 on the range. The new 63 is so capable performance-wise, that even with all options, it is likely to come some $50k cheaper than the v12 ($180k vs $230k).

Moral of the story for the new AMGs is that the S550 is more compelling than ever as a compromise to those performance oriented. The S 63 is being scored as simply a faster S 550, the S 65 is being presented as a slower S 63, etc.

Where did you see 4.2 secs at? Just asking.

I'm in Europe and now use German configurator. I equipped my version of S63 to 235 kiloeuros. But you're right, if I want 650hp I would better bring the S63 to some tuner and get that power. It could be even cheaper and more fuel efficient. Not saying about car weight and cornering perfomnce.

I do not recall which of the American car mags (or even Edmunds) was the one that tested. But there was more than one (at least one S and one CL 550 of the 221/216 configurations) that tested 4.2 sec in the acceleration.

I'm betting that was the S600, I have never seen a CL or S550 test that fast.

Thrust is transmitted to the rear wheels via AMG’s seven-speed dual-clutch automatic, which replaces the outfit’s seven-speed torque-converter automatic. This change should drastically improve shift-response times.

This is what C&D is saying about the S65's transmission. A typo I'm sure???? Has to be since the old car didn't have the 7G to begin with.

Way too much bling, but probably a reflection of the customer base. The spy pic of the S600 I have seen (anyone have it, can't find it) looks much more proper.

The S65 might be obsolete in the eyes of many given how capable the S63 is. But nothing can take the place of the almighty V12 engine. Frankly, it's just NUTS!

Wolfgang, will the release of the 9-speed transmission pave the way for AWD for the right-hand drive models?
