Why bother with the fake tips then?
A clean bumper with no tips is fine by me.

Customer feedback has largely indicated a preference for exhaust tips. You may recall a decade ago where it was the norm for German cars to have a clean bumper when in luxury trim.

This is where the non-S GLE63 comes in, should they choose to offer it again.
But BMW will have like 4 V8s? X5 50i, M50i, full M model, M Competition? Anyway, I'm interested in the pricing between GLE53 and GLE580.

And that’s OK. They don’t have to line up exactly. I’m sure both BMW and MB have done enough research to inform their product strategies.

BMW has X5 M50i and just 50i, all V8. Mercedes should do the same...And if buyers choose between sub-AMG or sub-M SUV, they will most likely go with X5 M50i, not GLE53 because of V8. I hope GLE53 will have weight advantage.
I think that BMW will drop the 50i once the M50i is released don’t think they’d keep both, I believe the 50i was just a stop gap.

As for the GLE53 having a weight advantage I doubt it due to the electric motor and 48V system for reference the E53 is 30kg heavier than the M550i in AB.

I wonder if this GLE580 model will be only sold in US and Chinese markets as it is strange they not selling the GLE53 in US. I wonder if the W223 S class will get this new EQ boost V8 as well for a S580 model.

Current plans that I've seen indicate MBUSA will sell the AMG GLE53 here in the U.S. It's just not going to be for sale until the end of next year.

I really wish Mercedes would actually join the exhaust pipe to the bumper outlet tips, it smacks of cost cutting, but at least it's not totally closed up like some Audi ugly fake exhaust tips (SQ5 is one example). BMW at least joins the tailpipe to the bumper exhaust tips so it doesnt look fake.
Most Mercedes do, and the exhaust ends up looking nasty, covered in soot. Actually makes sense.

We should be getting something on this in the next week or so for it's debut at NYC.

I agree when talking about older diesels but the soot covered exhausts are almost the thing of the past now with the latest diesels fitted with diesel particulate filters and SCR catalytic converters, the amount of soot has been reduced significantly. Look at the exhaust tips on the BMW F30 320d they are conventional and no different to the petrol versions

I doubt @tennmb was even talking about diesels. The gas direct injection motors produce a lot of soot. It’s a very common complaint from customers of a variety of brands.

I'm not talking about diesels at all. We don't get that many here in the US. I've been selling MB for going on 21 years and exhaust tips completely blackened by exhaust soot is normal.

Here is what Motorweek said about the handling of the new GLE.

"It also handles quite well for a biggish midsize ute, feeling more compact than it is, weaving through the cones with concrete-like composure. Lots of grip, and very little body roll to speak of; it’s a very well-balanced chassis.

You can feel that Mercedes didn’t cheap out on suspension design and just rely on electronics to do the hard work."

I find it a bit confusing: Bright red with wooden steering wheel against two tone clay/black leather and partially black alloys.

The red is not actually the bright in real if its same as my E I think it could be the lighting..inwouldnt take wooden steering wheel but the rest i do like i need a change from full black interior on my next car whenever that happens.

Whoever specced that car deserves to have anchovies put into their cereal. :bangin::bangin::bangin:

Different strokes for different folks I guess, but brown and black colors look great with the red in my opinion. Cardinal red is a bit darker than what the pic shows in person too. I would not have gone with the lined wood trim personally, but brown wood trim in general doesn't look bad with this spec.
