What a crisp design. Love it! This isn't even the GLE53 which will knock my socks off.

Unlike the EQ SUV, this is a complete design inside and out.

I do like that the lines on this are cleaned up. Less is more. The front however is a little round for my taste - not aggressive at all.

Oh, Gordon, what have you done?! The new GLE looks nice and posh and all. But Gordon, go f...k yourself with you "sensual purity" and its pu**y roundness & softness. Rounded MBs = fail. MBs need some angular, rectangular sharpness. He is turning MBs into bars of soap! #TREASON?

Meanwhile the rest of us are just happy Peter Pfeiffer is gone. I'm all for these cohesive designs.

The new one is miles better than the current..and arguably of all of them..

I am really liking this. The exterior is squat and butch, which is nice departure of the minivan-lite look of previous generations. Interior is the best one ever outfitted to a M/GLE where it actually lives up to the brand's name. For the most part I think I can overlook the whole giant vent motif. That said, I prefer the X5's interior over...

That can't be real carbon.

@bialkov oh man, you are constantly comparing non AMG GLE to old GLE AMG and X5 M pack...

The one in that last video is the one to have if you don't need the extra power of the upcoming GLE 53. A GLE 450 with that package is perfect for most.

Range Rovers are beloved because they have immense presence but yet poses elegance and slender unmatched by most SUVs. Mercedes have been very clever with the rear end design. The invisible D pillar coupled with the trapezius shaped tail lights and black lower bumper reduce visual bulk.

The Q7 and X5 on other other hand, use horizontal tail lights which exaggerate the width of the cars and gives the rear 3/4 view a heavy look. This tall "white fridge"-look is apparent in white colours.

wow that old interior was so terrible, my friend had prefl ML and i always had a trouble believing it is an upper class Mercedes. This one is such a step up. Even tho it would be interesting to see bare bone version.

I love this new GLE and quite blown away on how good looking it is. This is the best looking GLE/ML ever and the best looking SUV in its class as well in my opinion.

The design hides its size very well, it looks sleek and muscular and has sensual shape rear end with nice bulging on the haunches. I think it's a much more athletic and sportier looking car than the new X5, which looks square and upright in comparison.

It makes the Audi Q7 look so big, too conservative and dated.

The interior is better than what I expected but is colour sensitive, especially the wood trim and leather combinations. I really like the AMG line interior with aluminum trim combo with lighter color leather, really classy and stylish. It's a close one for interior design, the X5 is fantastic inside and with the right trim and colour combo the GLE is nearly as good.

In my opinion the only car Wagener did well is W222. I also like E coupe. Other cars from my beloved brand just don't impress much. Some (A and CLS for example) are ugly.

Overall pretty nice. Front has something really weird, side is nice and the rear beautiful. Interior passable at best.

Yeah no. Compared to the X5 this looks like a nondescript blob.

Also note how I didn't start this about the X5, I'm merely extending it.

The invisible D pillar coupled with the trapezius shaped tail lights and black lower bumper reduce visual bulk.

You call the X5 a white fridge, I call the GLE an A class on steroids. To each his own.

Make no mistake, I still regard this GLE as the best looking car of its lineage but, there are certainly aspects of its design which I'm not keen on, personally. The biggest element of contention in my opinion is the "bridge span" c-pillar and blacked out d-pillar theme. To my mind it's a dead-end feature that just about everyone has ditched because it's dated now. The bowed belt line doesn't get me excited and the frontal styling can look a bit bulbous in non AMG-line guise. Still, the car has good proportions and is elegantly devoid of superfluous character line flourishes in its surfacing. It also has a solid, butch stance too... Class leader design-wise though? Not in my book.

I think it is difficult to say what the class leader in this class is though Martin. Nice as the X5 is, it is very much an update of the F15, which was an update of the E70... so a major improvement of its predecessor, much like the W167. The X5 interior is a major leap though. Q7 is an exterior design failure, and I think sales reflect this.

I know this is GERMAN car forum, but I think the XC90 is the real design leader in the class, interior and exterior.

Nonetheless, I think it is fairly close between this new GLE and the X5, so it will go down to individual brand preferences, although the Merc has the newer and more interesting engine technology for the moment.

As much as the W166 is panned here, it actually looks OK in facelifted form.

Overall I am happy with this new GLE. It's a real contender again.

Just as expected, you need it fully optioned to look good.

And why couldn't they do without the fake vent like the EQC
Disagree. The standard version looks great. The sport just takes it to a higher level.

After seeing this photos, i don't regret a bit that decided not to wait for the new GLE and ordered a Q7.
Don't like interior at all. It seems that the designers felt nostalgic for the BMW e36 and Porsche Cayenne Gen1 at the same time. The A-class climate control - not a great idea.

And the exterior? Looks good only in AMG trim.
