Well, we got our first two GLEs yesterday, a 350 and 450.
Likes:
-Size. It is much more generous in the back seat leg room.
-The MBUX, when active through Mercedes Me Connect is unbelievable. The screens are vivid and easy to navigate. This will redefine tech in the auto industry.
-Overall, the materials are quite nice except for a couple of things i'll mention below. The wood trim over the cup holder cover is very nice. Most everything feels very solid with the exception of the thermotronic and the shift selector and wiper stalk. Honestly, it's not something that jumps out, but it makes you wonder how this passed muster. It is so chincy. Maybe this will make servicing it much more simple, but damn.
-Ride is very nice and quiet.
-Interior styling. It is very bold, which lends itself to the SUV market.

Dislikes: The option list. Once again, too many damn options. Raise the base price and stop playing this game.
The shift selector and wiper stalk are very cheap feeling compared to previous.
The power 2nd row seems a waste. It's slow and not intuitive when you are trying to fold them down from the cargo area. I'd prefer the manual adjustments and have the 3rd row jump seat, but you have to get the power to have it. The 3rd row is what it is in most SUVs this size; a joke. No one is going back there but the smallest of children.

Unsure: Exterior Styling. It's a handsome vehicle, but I wonder if it is too generic for the current market. It isn't offensive at all, but it isn't daring either. There are a couple of things that carry over like the chrome skid plate on the standard trim that just needs to go.

The shift selector really sticks out to me of how plasticky it looks. Even in the W223 prototype pics we've seen recently, it really looks out of place in a prototype testing interior with what is I am sure prototype-spec cheap material. At least I hope the final outcome with the shift selector in S that it looks and feels solid and expensive.

My local dealer got a GLE350 and GLE450 in today as well. My car was getting serviced and I decided to hang around for a bit, so naturally I crawled all over it. I did not drive either model. But since we're sharing thoughts:

Likes:

-The interior imparts that solid feeling that you expect from a Mercedes. The doors are rather light but shut solidly. I felt the interior pieces I touched were up to par, with the cheap pieces hidden smartly. The turn signal and shifter stalks will bother some but it didn't turn me off.
-The seats are excellent! I would love to take it for a road trip. I'm glad they got rid of the unattractive rear headrests that my G-wagen still has.
-Rear seat has an unusual amount of legroom
-The displays are not overwhelming even though they dominate the interior. The concern over the fake speaker on the right of the screens will fade away. Overall it looks really butch in there which will help attract male buyers. I want to see it in colors other than black. MBUX works incredibly well but listens very closely (as mentioned below).

Dislikes:

-The exterior styling continues to cater to a market that isn't me. Lexus RX350 buyers looking for an upgrade will be pleased. The GLE looks confident but unassuming. Great for toning down the sometimes ostentatious vibe that comes with the Mercedes symbol here in the U.S. Me? Bring on the AMG styling!
-This is a real nitpick: MBUX can be narcissistic sometimes. I'm not always calling its attention but it seems ready to jump in if I even think of the name "Mercedes".
-I agree with @tennmb, the second row power folding seat is slow. Slow enough to the point where any child trying to get to the back is going to be tempted to just climb over the damn thing.

Verdict:

Current GLE owners and conquest customers alike will take nicely to this new model. That solid MB quality and appearance is here in spades. I can't be bothered with these mainstream trims though- it would take the AMG GLE53 for me to give this a second look. The GLE350 and GLE 450 just don't have enough flair for me but they will be respected in the carpool line.

The ML/GLE has been the one bringing us the new MB gear selectors, but this time it's the A that got it first. Don't think we'll be getting a different one in the S-Class.
Maybe @cawimmer430 can take a few shots for us.

The future owner gave permission to the manager for me to have a look at a GLE 350 just prior to delivery (MASS). I was very impressed with the quality of interior materials and back seat leg room. It was in a tight viewing space so hard for me to really digest the exterior, however I came away feeling that it was much less aggressive (read masculine) than the new X5.

Reminds me of the E-class. As you know, we in the U.S. sat here with just the AMG E63 sedan and the E300 sedan for quite a while.

You know what I remember that. The E43 didn't come until later. Interesting.
