This is fantastic, Mercedes modernizing a legend. Its gonna be bought by thousands of sports superstars!

I wish they'd do this with some of the classic 123 and 124 chassis. Keep that iconic look with the newer tech.

I've stated for years I wish they'd do one retro car, like a modern 190E or like you say W124 300 or 500E.

I can't image anyone walking into a MB dealership and expecting to find and buy a new G off the lot for at least two years - unless you have really good connections.

I expected to be quite cynical about this reinvention of the G class. However, it is an impressive job MB has done.

I liken it to another legendary German product, the Leica M. Very few of these will ever be sold to anybody looking to go off-road; the only jungles you’re likely to find them in will be the concrete variety. Still, it is a magnificent machine and undoubtedly will maintain its leading place in the hierarchy of 4x4s.

Kinda boring, like the transition from X-trail Mk1 to X-trail Mk2, hopefully they get it right in 20 years when they do G Wagon Mk3, although it didn't take Nissan that long.

A least the interior finally looks like a quality product and large enough to fit anyone bigger than a midget.

Will there be new commercial versions, or will they continue to use the old one?

The only good looking SUV in the Mercedes Benz SUVs range.
My God the Maybach version is gonna be to die for.

The name Maybach doesn't suit this type of rugged vehicle. The AMG versions with Designo interior should be the top range for the new G.

I am so glad that the new G looks almost identical to the old G outside and the interior is vastly improved. This IMO is the best looking offroader in the market. Thank you Mercedes Benz.

First of all this car has perfect design, these changes are maximum what should be done. Second, driver of G class has plenty of headroom.

Maybe plenty of head room but not a lot of other room, especially leg room and width, the old one had a very cramped cockpit, only maringally better than a Defender, which also had a lot of headroom.

This year's Detroit show was a bust. The G-wagen debut is great and all, but let's be honest, it doesn't exactly get the blood boiling.

Totally disagree with that, we also got the "53" AMG models.
