At which point? - center of wheelbase, front diff, rear diff? Only the second is connected to the front suspension.
Usually the front and rear diffs have the sane ground clearance. If the rear axle is not changed, also the smallest ground clearance should not be changed. What I'm trying to say is that the bigger ground clearance of the new one is most porobably a result of raising the body and not connected to the front axle.
Anyway, do you have any off road experience, because from what you write it doesn't look so?

It doesn’t look like front is independent suspension, look closely can see the differential in front axle. As mentioned by @CrunchSlaughtered it look like body is raised, having said that I guess it a prototype so in finished product we may see some difference

Yes the diff can be seen but it doesn't look much different when the suspension is independent. With the rigid axle the diff moves up and down when the suspension is working, while with independent it is bolted to the body or a frame and does not move. But on this video we can not see exactly what's happening.

Yes, also suspect it may be a solid axle. :)
This video is for steel springs only. When you have air suspension and independant front suspension when you lift the car you increase also the clearance, because the diff is connected to the body. The rigid axle can not change the ground clearance under the diff regardless how high you lift the body.

Please check out this video, you can see for new G the front differential is not seen as its been placed above & covered up by underbody cover.

@CrunchSlaughtered i believe for extreme off roading & military kind of reliability it’s still the regular coil spring is used, hence i dont think the G Professional would use air suspension.

It *looks* like the G500 4x4^2 is making a return?

Wow.. that’s some thing amazing.. really amazing. I would make my new wish list now.

Here is report from Motor1.com

New Mercedes-Benz G550 4×4² Spied With Weird Testing Rig

Good news! The mighty off-roader is not dead.

When Mercedes-Benz announced the end of the G500 4×4² production back in October 2017, there were no indications whether the hardcore off-roader would get a successor based on the new generation G-Class. The automaker then said the model has received a “phenomenal response” from customers and this has obviously played a positive role in taking the decision for a successor. Fast forward to the present day and we have the first spy photos of the new G500 4×4².

It’s still looking very rough with all the extra testing equipment attached to the body but there's almost no camouflage. One thing is visible right from the beginning - the side-exit pipes for the exhaust system that were featured in the previous-generation of the model are not seen on this prototype. Also worth noting is the added extra weight on the roof rack and the funky visor on the windshield. There also seems to be a small ladder at the back and a rear-mounted spare wheel next to it.

From what we know so far, the new G-Class 4×4² will be based on the G500 version of the off-roader. This means there should be a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 under the hood but at this point it’s not known whether it’ll be in standard Mercedes form or in an AMG-tuned guise. Whatever the case is, it’ll produce at least about 416 horsepower (306 kilowatts) and 450 pound-feet (610 Newton-meters) of torque.

The previous generation of the adventure cruiser featured portal axles and a whopping ground clearance of 450 millimeters (17.7 inches), plus an impressive fording depth of 1,000 mm (39.3 inches). The extreme off-roader also had 22-inch alloy wheels with special 325/55 R22 tires. We expect similar specifications for the all-new G500 4×4².

We are excited to see the Stuttgart-based company is working on a successor to the mighty off-roader. According to preliminary details, it should debut at some point next year and go on sale as a 2022 model.

More like to prevent from tipping over.

Looks like they're doing some intense proving ground testing - throwing it a corners at the same speed as sports cars. Otherwise known as speeds acutal owners will never reach.

Photos above looks like the skid pads at MB's proving ground.

This is my drive from Berlin to Basel. The aerodynamics of this box isn't exactly ideal for the autobahn.

It's absolutely amazing that all of their SUVs are new or relatively new, that's a lot of hard work. Not to mention all of the various car development going on at the same time, like the S, EQS, EQE, and C-Classes.
