EQS (V297) [Official] Mercedes-Benz EQS

The Mercedes-Benz EQS (V297) is a battery electric full-size luxury liftback car produced by Mercedes-Benz Group and part of the Mercedes-Benz EQ family. Production: May 2021- Model years: 2022–
As an EQS saloon owner I would say overall it’s a pretty decent car, but I think the positioning and marketing is very confusing. They pitched it as an electric S class but it lacks the key ingredients which make an S class. The design isn’t stately, the cabin is nice enough but not luxurious, particularly the rear.

For me following the cancellation of the CLS, the EQS should have been pitched as a replacement for this (it’s what i had before the EQS).

For the part facelift they added the classic grill and bonnet star to make it more S, but I felt this only made it more confused, with the overall design just not lending itself to it. The full facelift seems to suggests this is going to be ditched and revert back to the bigger star on the front.

No real change to the interior apart from the obvious Yoke steering wheel option. Not a bad thing as I think overall it’s still a decent design, but I hope the quality of the lower level materials will be improved.

I don’t know if I’ll get the EQS facelift or wait for the E class EQ….

They really put a lot into this update. I’m kinda shocked but then again it isn’t Mercedes to just give up on a product. Even one that doesn’t meet their sales expectations.

My sentiments as well.

Call me "naive". Accuse me of "wishful thinking". But...I am fully expecting the upcoming W224-based EQ sedan to be a far, far more attractive, a generally far, far better vehicle than the current V297 EQS sedan. I'm fully anticipating M-B "getting it right" on this one. Design inside and out, e-technologies, materials, fit and finish...

Important considerations are being overlooked. The EQS facelift will feature the same battery and engine-transmission pack used in the new GLC. This is expected to increase the range to 900 km.

Mmmm the front looks better but it's still not fantastic and trying to look like a bigger CLA. Interior is a massive disappointment.

In the words of Shaq, the EQS design is “Tragic Bronson”. The egg shape fundamentally compromises it and any facelifts they will do to sell a dozen more units annually.

I guess the AMG version will not be updated since the AMG GT 4-door is coming up shortly. Some channels are saying there is another announcement coming tomorrow.

Determinedly moving forwards in terms of innovative technology. Flogging a dead horse in terms of exterior design. The MoPF has NOT made the already estranging EQS more appealing to the eye. Quite the opposite, actually.

"Untertürkheim, we've got a problem."

I am hugely disappointed in this MOPF.

The classic grill update they made to the front of the EQS a few years ago did improve things, but the more I look at this MOPF I think it looks worse than that update. The classic grill should not be shaped like this and not have any chrome border looks cheap. Why make the ICE cars and even the GLC grill different? Even the interior they hardly made any changes except the shape of the centre screen which looks odd at the bottom.

I applaud them for improving the EV tech, the range and the performance, but the charging speed of 25/27min is not much progress. BMW has almost the same capacity battery in the iX3 (108kwh) and can charge in 21min.

On the road it looks really good: wide and impressive. It truely has presence. As soon as I get an opportunity, I'm going testdrive one.

So they brought their electric flagship's looks in line with their entry-level model. Confidence, man.

IMHO, there appears to be a "confidence problem" in general at M-B. Along with the point that you brought up, the more recent gloss over of unit sales data is arguably another symptom of this. M-B can be confident regarding the innovative technological competence that it repeatedly presents. But other aspects present some glaring deficits that remain to be left to address. These deficits must be counteracted by way of sweeping transformation. Design, brand presentation and market positioning, management...
