...and perceived said aesthetic misgivings are slowly but surely being "digested". More recent reviews often feature comments pertaining to the way the exterior design "slowly grows on you".

I reckon that the exterior design of the EQS sedan will never be perceived as "beautiful", but the "acceptance" of it will grow (perhaps) far more quickly than many would have initially thought upon its' presentation.
It's easy to accept the less-than-ideal design of a car everything else about it is great. Example: Cayenne and Juke.

And if it looked like an S-Class?

As much as I adore its elegance, gravitas and luxury, I'm still too young for an S IMO Martin. It's too grown up visually. Also, to be frank, I'm probably a very average driver but I just like to feel connected to the road and car most of the time.

The Taycan is an aesthetic home run IMO. The practicality of a 4 door, with the genuine beauty of a sports coupe. The perfect visual package.

Don't get me wrong, it's a brilliant car to drive. But despite all the fanfare, it's not a patch on an S class in terms of luxury and overall refinement.

That's how I feel about the S-Class too. I love my W140 S500, but that's not a daily car. I love the W223, but for a daily vehicle it's too big for me. It's tempting but I wouldn't feel right driving such a huge car everyday right now.

The 4950mm-to-5050mm L segment is the "sweet spot" for athletically luxurious 4 door automobiles IMHO. Both in terms of purpose (for self-drivers) as well as aesthetics. Both the W/V223 and EQS sedan are "a bit dimensionally excessive", especially for us here "Euros". And the patently excessive exterior dimensions of the G70 7er will leave more than a few perceiving it to be an outright abomination. Which is a shame, as the G70 is a fundamentally "nicely penned" luxurious automobile.

I've long wished for the E or CLS to truly offer what the S class does in a condensed package. Sadly since the W211 the gap has only widened.

It's the last E I would say was truly comparable to the S in terms of interior design and finish and overall driving refinement.

Fully realizing that I'm in the minority (what an understatement ;) ) on these forums, Audis' current A/S6 and A/S7 represent "perfectly right sized" premium/luxury automobiles in terms of all exterior dimensions (L,W and H). Certainly, the W/T213 M-B and G30/31 BMW are directly comparible in that particular context. And then, there's the absolutely delicious Taycan and rather tasty eTron GT. But hey, I'm obviously Porsche/Audi-affine. Being that, I'm really crossing my fingers that Marc Lichtes' design team does not f***-up the upcoming A6 eTron cars.

Agreed on the W211. It’s the only E I’ve ever owned (an E320 cdi) and it was close enough to an S to make you think, “nah, I’m not going to spent another € 25.000-€30.000 more just to drive an S“.

My dad had a W220 that was a reliability nightmare. As soon as the warranty expired he traded down to an E320 and was pretty satisfied with it. It didn't lack for much against the S.

Today i have finally drive the EQS.
It was a 450 in graphite grey and AMG
package. I must confess, the EQS
is so much better, then the S-Class, although also the W223 is a fantastic car.
But the sporty, coupe-like design, the sound insolation, the futuristic interior, the materials, how good it goes into the corners… the EQS
is the winner, definitely!

We understand better over time that they did not make an electric s-class. It gives the impression of an electric car more than the i7.

And Sonder, are you going to buy one?

Not having actually viewed a G70/71 "in-the-metal", I'm hardly in the position to make a qualified personal verdict at the moment. But, if anything, the sheer expanses of the new 7ers' exterior dimensions will ensure that it is NOT inconspicuous. Perhaps that is a factor that will draw more potential customers towards the EQS sedan. At least here in Europe. In real-life environments, the EQS is actually a bit stealthy. Its' exterior design appears to veil the mass of its' large dimensions. While the more traditional, "classic" exterior design of the gorgeous W/V223 appeals more to the eyes of many, the EQS is a distinct prelude to the luxury M-Bs' of the future. Hopefully, M-B designers may even provide them with that sort of visual "knock out" appeal of the W/V223. Some of the elements seen on the Vision EQXX and Vision AMG.EA concepts can really whet the appetite.

Is Pappas the authorized M-B distributorship in Slovenia, Sonder ? I'm asking because of the Austrian Salzburger Land registration plates.

*D'OH ! NOW I've spotted the Pappas logo decal. ;) I'm a bit slow at times.

Today, again, I encountered a black EQS on the highway. It drove behind me and later on beside me. It strikes me how elegant and sleek this car looks, how it blends into everyday traffic in a most natural way. Seeing it in the rearview mirror, the nose is pleasantly low and wide (it sported the AMG line), the front lights, with it's three day running light spots, look.. well... spot on, I'd say.
It is by no means an S Class, but It's an EV from MB with a lot of potential.

Mick, my "condition" appears to be contagious ;) .

I agree. The EQS is truly quite the "grower". I've never outrightly "hated" its' exterior design. Critical, most certainly. And I'll probably never genuinely "love" its' exterior design either. But I have surely grown to accept it and, in certain configurations, it can really be a svelte, elegant eye-catcher. In a subtle way that many potential customers will prefer over towering, "in your face" haughtiness.

Yes, you're the one to blame, of course... ;)

I never thought I say this, but the word 'subtle' is indeed applicable to the EQS. No doubt many West-Europeans will prefer this over a more boisterous, bold design.
