E-Class (W213/C238/A238) [Official] Mercedes-Benz E-Class W213 Facelift

The Mercedes-Benz W213 is the fifth generation of the E-Class range. It succeeded the W212/S212 E-Class models. The coupe/convertible models (C238/A238) share the same platform as the sedan/wagon, in contrast to the previous generation. Production: February 2016–2023. Model years: 2017–2023.
Actually I notice it more when driving at lower speed, over speed humps or roundabouts. It feels like the body is moving on top of the suspension and it takes that extra half a second to settle itself.

It seems to settle down at higher speeds. Haven't really push the car yet but hopefully when things opening up I will have more opportunity to do so.

Have you tried adjusting your tire pressure ?

What tires came with your E450 ?

I had the Michelins and haven't faced this issue on 19" wheels.

I think it is difficult to calibrate the air suspension with big alloy wheels, sometimes I do wonder if the car is better off with the steel spring suspension with adaptive dampers.

Besides this, I am still genuinely surprised by how similar the W211 and the W213 felt on the road.
From my experience, adaptive and air suspension can vary in performance even amongst cars by the same manufacturer. The tuning can even change between pre-facelifted and facelifted models.

Before we bought a G01 X3, I test drove it on 3-4 occasions with different suspension and alloy sizes. This massively helped making an informed decision on the configuration that was going to suit our needs and local roads.

Right now the tires are at 40 psi all around.

Wheels are 20 inch multi spoke on Goodyear F1, 245/35 front and 275/30 rear.

Perhaps the tire pressure needs to be lowered.

Good point, the only other W213 I have tested was the E200 with standard suspension and 18 inch wheels, and that felt very comfortable in similar character to the W211.

Which specification did you settle on for your G01?

I'd try going for 38 in front, 42 in rear.

20i Adaptive suspension with 19 inch allows. Even with run flats, the ride is so comfortable that you could mistake it for having air suspension. The downside is that sport mode isn't engaging or sporty enough. Beer in mind that adaptive suspension on a X3 M40i is firmer.

A few years ago I drove a Skoda Superb with adaptive suspension. Incredible body handling in bends. However the suspension was firm and a bit noisy over pot holes and sunken manhole covers.

Similarly the air suspension on a Jaguar iPace is brilliant for body control but not as isolating and cosetting as you would expect of air suspension.

On the other hand, I drove a G12 730d once and the ride was utterly sublime even with 21 inch alloys.

A Volvo XC60 or Audi Q5 rides comfortably on just passive suspension.

The worst adaptive/airsuspension are those with modes that don't feel right for you. E.g soft is too sloppy and sport is too harsh. Never order spec a suspension option before experiencing it and comparing with other cars.

Recommended factory pressure is 37 psi all around for 20" tires.

Last time I was at the dealer they had different front/rear tire pressures listed for 20" wheels. The E450 I looked at had 37psi listed only for the front. I suggested 38 assuming he might like the feel of a slightly overinflated front tire.

It's listed on the fuel door regardless so @Monster should take a look.

Since the original thread is now locked, I will post it here.

The 213 is fantastic all round car. Smooth, quick and refined. The only negative I can say is that the ride is still a tad floaty , and I prefer the slightly tighter damping control in sports mode. Also I still prefer the font and rear styling of the original version.

My E400 is equiped with normal steel suspension system. I do actually feel the opposite with my 20'' wheels, to the point that I have increased the tires profile by 10 front and back.

Overall, I feel the suspension system can improve since I noticed it deals very well with most of road bumps, but some sharp pot holes feels harsh on the car.

I read that the facelift has better overall suspention with some adjustments to the engines mounts ( I guess affecting weight distibution and loading on the suspention), leading to better overall balance between comfort and sporteness.

My E400 is now at 115,000 KM, thankfully I had 0 mechanical issues so far, the car seems extreamly reliable so far.

The overall fit and finish seems to be solid, and I dont see any complains about the interior quality.

For what it's worth, I have been told by an MB EQ specialist that the W213 will not be replaced with a new model. It will likely recieve a second facelift to sell alongside the EQE. He also suggested that an EQE hyrbrid may be on the cards to fill in the gap when the W213 is evenutally discontinued, though I'm not sure this would be correct given the technical constraints.

A hybrid setup on an MEA gives me pause. Depends how significant the updates are on an W213 it could very well soldier on markets no where near ready for BEVs.

Somehow, the propects of an EQE Hybrid seem more than remote-to me. A bit of a "cop-out" actually. It would hardly be a display of commitment towards a dedicated electric future. The W213 soldiering on for another 5-6 years (perhaps a bit longer in developing country markets) in facelifted form, on the other hand, sounds very plausible.

The E63s sedan and wagon are no longer on mbusa website… Have they been dropped?!?
No V8 engines for the US market for 2022 MY, apparently due to quality control issue, but I suspect it is to do with supply shortages.

Agreed. It would seem dubious from an engineering and marketing standpoint.

Perhaps he meant the W213 would experience further hybridisation.

To think the W213 could be the last full blooded ICE E-class brings up a whole lot of nostalgia for me.

I can’t imagine the panic in the halls at MBUSA with no V8s besides the S580 to sell for the 2022 MY.

Murika is on league of its own, even in Middle East people dont buy V8s causually like they did before.

Gas prices are too dam* high.

What about diesel prices? Are they too damn high as well?
No diesel price is still relativly low, but Diesel in Saudi is not compatable with most modern german engines, its used for trucks only.

I'm still not sure why we dont have diesel MB/Audi/BMW with Middle East/Gulf specification, and have the right diesel for it.

Gas price has increased from 0.60 SAR (0.16 $) to 2.23 SAR (0.6$) per liter which is almost 5 times in 4 years, people are dumping V8 GMC/Tahoe for Mazda CX9 with 4 cylinders.
