So there will be a E 300 CDI that delivers same power as the E 250 CDI, but will have 6-cylinder and 7G-tronic as standard!! Fantastic stuff!! And the E 350 CDI will get more power in 2010 July…

Thank God. The V6 Diesel was screamming for a power update since the BMW has 245 hp and the Audi 250. Now we have to wait a fewmonths to know what the new V8 is gonna be like and what is gonna happen to the V8 diesel (A 450 BlueEFFICIENCY with 350 hp would be just so good).

Maybe 420-440 HP for the new V8?

No, I would say that's too much. More like 390 hp max, and imo that's even pushing it a bit

He´s talking about the gasoline V8 engine, not the diesel one. We don´t know anything about the diesel, but the 500 engine is said to be replaced by a 435 or 450 hp one.

Now I read jesmb again, What´s the point of having two versions with the same hp, one with 4 cyl and the other one with 6?. I initially thought the 300 CDI replaces the 250 CDI.

Aaah, thanks. I thought he meant the Diesel version....

I don't really get it either, but it's exactly the same for BMW:

N47 (Inline 4, 204 hp, 400 Nm) E82 123d
N57 (Inline 6, 204 hp, 450 Nm) F10 525d

For BMW it's not (yet) possible to choose between those engines in one model yet, though.....

They could be for different markets yep, as klier says, BMW is doing the same thing, and I would go for a 525d and a 300 CDI over the 23d and 250 CDI anytime.

This seems like a stupid move. I could not imagine paying more money for a car that has no power or performance advantage yet is less efficient.

As it is the Bluetec has less power than the regular version, and the 250 is extremely efficient. The 250 engine is already mated to the 7g in other models, which makes more sense than a thirsty detuned V6.

As far as I know the 250 will also get the 7g auto for the 212 and 207 models, which leaves the 300 completely pointless.

I am glad to hear about the increase in power for the 350CDI though, and I wonder what will become of the Bluetec models? Maybe that is what the 300 will be, a Bluetec, as it was in the 211.

It would be nice to have such a powerful diesel from MB. Specially since BMW has two powerful diesels like the 40d with 306 hp and in the future de 50d with 354, and Audi has also the 4.2 TDI with 350 hp, so Mercedes is not on par with the other with this.

70 hp extra is seriously pushing it, but we'll see.....

It it a dramatic increase, this is true, but the hp/l would be on par with the 250 at that level. At least they should get 350-360 to get it on par with the 450 gasoline model for HP, and then it should also be faster than the gasser.

I also have a feeling that there is more coming with the OM642, it started with 224, now 231, soon to be 252, but it probably has more to give.

I hope they are able to tweak all the diesels for the same hp/l as the 250CDI.

A more powerful version of the V6 diesel should be nice, with 315 hp or so. And then anotherone more powerful (V8?) with 360/370 hp.

Another old engine is the 450. With the new V8s comming next year, a 390 hp 450 sound fine to me.

It sounds better than fine, 390 hp V8 diesel sounds sick.

My bet would be in between 350 hp (minimum) and 380 hp (max).
One thing is pretty much for sure, it will be the most powerful V8 diesel.

Will it be a V8 diesel?. A few years back Mercedes previewed the Triturbo concept, and now BMW is gonna launch such an engine, so it could also be a possibility.

The four cylinder diesel might be on backorder at present, and not be available again until May 2010 or so.

That may be one reason why MB made the ML 300 CDI diesels also available in the E300 CDI and E300 CDI T-model. Both can be ordered starting January 1, 2010.

Although these four and six cylinder diesels have similar ratings, they drive quite different since the 6 cylinder has a wider torque band.

(PS. I recently drove the 2009 ML320 CDI and the 2010 E350 CDI coupe.)

The 4 cyl may be backordered, but the demand is driven in very large part by its efficiency, so I do not think this 6 will have the desired result since the consumption is the same between 350 and 300 models, and 350 bluetec models are both more powerful and more efficient.

Another potential reason? :eusa_pray:

BMW is coming out with two six-cylinder units – the 525d and 530d.

The E300 CDIs are BlueEfficiency models, which may mean the consumption was optimised. No consumption data was published yet.
