I remember all the bitching and moaning about how dull this car was when it was released. And as I voiced back then, it has proven to be elegant and timeless.

I loved it from day and you're right, it is one of the best looking cars MB sells today. A E63 Coupe and Cabrio would have been a classic in this body.

With the S-Coupe being axed, several reports about the 8er Coupe and Cabrio not seeing a second generation... I would not bet my money on the E-Coupe not following the same path.

I don't know about worldwide, but the E Coupe Cabrio made up 25% of the E_Class sales in the U.S. as recently as 2018. I don't see them axing them unless sales have really nosedived recently. They seem quite popular still.

Really?? I don’t see a lot of coupes or cabs where I live. I suppose they’re more popular in the southern states esp FL/TX/ CA

The E-Class Cabriolet with sun-reflecting leather: Never too hot for carefree open-air enjoyment

Get in, start the engine and drive off in a relaxed manner – even though the vehicle has been standing in the blazing sun with the top down for a long time. This is possible in the E-Class Cabriolet even with shorts or a skirt thanks to sun-reflecting leather. This is because the specially coated leather heats up much less than untreated leather and remains up to 13 degrees Celsius cooler in direct sunlight. For many customers it is therefore one of the must-haves in the open-top four-seater E-Class, as are the AIRCAP® wind deflector system and AIRSCARF® head area heating.

The specially coated leather reflects the near-infrared waves of the sun and thus heats up noticeably less and more slowly than standard leather, which absorbs the heat radiation. This proves to be a major gain in comfort, especially with dark seat covers – which are ordered by over 60% of customers. Even with the soft top closed, the interior heats up less thanks to the cool leather. The special colouring and pigmentation of the sun-reflecting surface has no effect on the high-quality appearance and feel typical of Mercedes. Sunglasses and UV protection cream are therefore all that is needed for carefree open-air enjoyment in the E-Class Cabriolet.

AIRCAP® and AIRSCARF®: Year-round open-air driving fun in the E-Class Cabriolet

Open the top – even with cool outside temperatures! With AIRCAP® and AIRSCARF®, open-top driving in the E-Class Cabriolet is a real year-round pleasure. Both features have been among the most popular optional extras for years – which is why it is impossible to imagine the new model generation without them. The electrically adjustable AIRCAP® wind-deflector system slows down the flow of cold air into the interior. The AIRSCARF® head space heater additionally warms the neck like an invisible scarf.

AIRCAP® consists of two elements: a wind deflector that can be extended by around six centimetres at the touch of a button, with a mesh on the upper frame of the windscreen, and an automatic wind deflector between the head restraints in the rear. The deflector directs the wind flow over the heads of the occupants, while the bulkhead keeps the air vortices occurring in the area behind the rear seats away from the interior. In the passenger compartment, which is thus free of turbulence, the heating air forms a so-called warm air lake. Open-air touring can thus be enjoyed even in winter cold. Conversely, on particularly hot summer days, air conditioning and AIRCAP® can be used to create a pleasantly cool interior – an added value for the entire year.

Protected from the wind at all four seats

The wind deflector between the headrests of the rear passengers is automatically extended as soon as a passenger takes a seat in the rear and fastens the seat belt. The head restraints and wind deflector then move into the highest position. This means that the passengers in the second row are also significantly more protected from the wind than in convertibles without wind deflectors. When AIRCAP® is activated, the reduced draft also lowers the noise level considerably, allowing passengers in all seats to converse much easier. Further advantages over conventional angular wind deflectors is that there is no need for complicated installation, the rear seats remain free and the sideline of the cabriolet is not disturbed. The AIRCAP® system can be extended up to a speed of 160 km/h and used up to the top speed.

The intelligent scarf

The AIRSCARF® head space heater further enhances the feel-good climate in the E-Class Cabriolet. The patented system works like an invisible scarf that warms the necks of the driver and front passenger. AIRSCARF® is integrated into the backrests of the front seats and blows warm air from air nozzles in the head restraints. Particularly convenient: the nozzles can be swivelled up and down a total of 36 degrees. This means that people of all sizes can enjoy the neck heating. AIRSCARF® is based on intelligent computer technology: up to a speed of 120 km/h, a control unit automatically calculates the best possible distribution of warm air – depending on the inside and outside temperature, whether the soft top is closed or open and the driving speed. Above this speed, the system works with a constant setting.

The standard acoustic fabric soft top also contributes to unrestricted year-round suitability. Its multi-layer structure with complex insulation ensures excellent climate comfort in all seasons. It also reduces wind and driving noise particularly effectively. Within 20 seconds, the soft top can be opened and closed fully automatically – even while driving up to a speed of 50 km/h.
