A-Class (W176) [Official] Mercedes-Benz A-Class (W176)

The W176 model was introduced at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show officially as a subcompact executive / C-segment model for the first time after being a supermini / B-segment for fifteen years.

Yes Scrubs are doing the paint protection on Thursday. They promise it will pop like the Jupiter Red. Hope so it still looks great after 3 years. Will post some pics of the new one after Thursday. This is the 2013. Still looks like new.
Only washed when dirty.

Only recently I noticed that I had a small scrape on the underside of the front bumper on my A250. My heart sank as I couldn't remember getting close enough to anything. But put it down to going to Optus to report my phone lost after coming back from overseas 5 weeks ago. 30 hrs no sleep I figure it must have made me a little more careless. I did notice that I had come very close to the gutter at that time. But anyway this morning I went for a morning coffee and when coming back noticed I was sitting either so close to the gutter or on the gutter slightly, couldn't quite tell and I wasn't going to lie down in the street to check it out. Anyway after a quick look once I got where I was going, I noticed that underneath I have had a few little scrapes under the front. All out of view but these account for times I've obviously come out of driveways etc or even I thought once I scraped on a main road in the town I live but couldn't see the scrapes (obviously it scraped further underneath than I looked after parking). Anyway believe me I'm careful with my baby.

Anyway as I think most of these are probably unavoidable, would any of you guys think it is worth getting these things fixed? I should mention the scrape that I noticed initially is seeable from standing, you don't need to nearly lie on the ground to see it. I should probably upload a picture or two so you can judge it better. I will probably at some point do what MTB Rider did and upgrade my baby to a newer model, hopefully an A45 once my divorce and settlement are final.

Anyway just after some opinions.
I feel for you, I found a small scrape beneath the front bumper as well on my 1 week old car , it must have been a branch or something sticking up from the road surface, I will probably just get some touch up paint and then put some paint sealant and wax over it. Good luck with sorting out your personal things, tough times indeed.

Brief report on Apple CarPlay. For all those waiting for CarPlay you may be disappointed. I can't see myself using it much as I don't see the point in bypassing the Command system. Command does not work when in CarPlay. Frankly command is easier with your phone connected via Bluetooth as you need to plug your phone in via lightning cord for it to work which is a pain. Just moved to keyless so last thing I want is to have to get my phone in and out of my pocket now. You can do everything on Bluetooth as in CarPlay. The screen quality on CarPlay is also not as good as in command. If you call up Navi when in CarPlay you get Maps not your Mercedes Navi. As I have just loaded speed cameras in the Sd card I don't want to use Maps. PS I have the Harmon Kardon upgrade.
Can anyone tell me of an advantage in CarPlay other than Siri can read out your text messages easier.

just in case any one is confused by the keyless go thingo, it was introduced in September 2014 and was maintained as one of the features in the FL model in addition to all the other new features post December 2015 production as MTBRider had mentioned in his post.;)

I just recently found a couple under mine too. I have no idea where i picked them up! I'm betting its high curbs.. I'm crazy careful where i park, but somehow still managed to pick up these small scratches on the underneath of the front spoiler. They are completely out of sight until you get under the car.. I will probably give them a quick touch up. Other than that, I dont have a single scratch or ding. Keeping fingers crossed it stays that way :)

That is impressive, given the attitude of the people have towards other people's property, in Sydney at least. My previous car was keyed all round, egged on and have random deep scratches and dents on every single panel. How do you manage it ?

Geez, id be having kittens if my car got a single scratch.. Im very selective where i park.. I can circle for 15mins looking for, what i call, a 'non interference' parking bay..

If i know that i have to park in an unfamiliar area for a long period of time, sometimes i'll do a reconnaissance trip to scope it out and ear-mark the best parking bays.

At work, i get the same person to park next to me each day, that way i dont have randoms parking next to me - less chance of damage.

It all sounds a bit OCD , i know.. But a scratch on her would be the end of the world...

When Mercedes took the door trim off to install felt behind ( to stop rattles ), they accidentally put a puncture mark under one of the chrome strips.. That was enough to bother me, so i had them change the whole door trim.. lol

Hi all, just wanted to find out if anyone has experienced any issues with the stock exhaust sound not crackling on the over-run in sports or manual mode after warm up. Just before my B service the crackling had stop but after it was serviced it was fine, until recently! Experienced twice as it comes and goes and is started to worry me! im always running on 98ron.:(

Anyway I've got a question in regards to Bluetooth Audio on the Comand system (I got mine fully optioned so its got the HK audio). When I listen to a song over bluetooth audio I get short breaks in the song. I've used, iPhones 5S, 6S+, Android, iPads, it doesn't seem to matter I get these little breaks in audio and it annoys me to no end. Is that normal? Is this buffering or something that I should expect from bluetooth audio on my comand system or should I take it in to be fixed or updated or whatever? I recently drove a work Hyundai and the one thing I could say for it was that on a trip to Melbourne I might have got this type of issue once or twice. In my A250 I may get this sometimes 10 times in a song.

Well just a bit of feedback, I have taken my car in 2x now for the bluetooth audio sound. Each time they updated the software. The first time I let the technician listen and it did it within a few seconds (1/100 of a second gap or stop who know but a fault in the audio) anyway he didn't hear it. So I turned up the volume and within a minute or 2 it had done it again. So anyway they updated it and thought they had fixed it. I got it back and it did it again within 10 minutes of driving and back to pretty much as it was before. I'm using an iPhone 6S Plus (first iPhone I haven't liked because of the phone's laggy nature and I've had 2 of them so I think it is a design fault) but it previously did it on other phones as mentioned above. So second time i took it in and they just reflashed the COMAND system again. While it seems to be an improvement on before I may get these breaks in audio within seconds of starting or 10 minutes later. No pattern to them. I currently don't own any other phones so not as easy to try. But now they are basically asking me to record it doing it so they have something to go on to pass on to Mercedes Corporate as they said they couldn't hear any fault in the audio. These little niggly problems get irritating as they are intermittent and sometimes take a while or won't be seen in short little test drives or listens as i know would occur in a workshop. Anyway I'll figure out a way to record it at sometime, not sure

I have only experienced the command system not loading my songs sometimes with iphone4 & itouch connected to the port. Unplugging cable and power off command system did not fix issue, only turning the car off and back on worked! I havnt come across any issues with bluetooth as I use it for answering calls most of the time and have my itouch connect via the port for music.

BTW
Does anyone's stock exhaust still sound like this on the overrun!

Just before my major service the crackling/popping on the overrun had stopped, but after the service it was fixed and a month later no more in SPORT and MANUAL MODE!

Any feedback would be great!

Hi all I've now had the FL A250 Sports for about three months and done 1,500 km, I thought I'll share some highlights and lowlights (yes there are a few) with Forum members. Unfortunately I am unable to make any direct comparison to a pre FL model because my drive in one of them was only a 20-minute test drive. I can however make some comparison to my wife's BMW 125i convertible (Straight 6 - 160kw, 270 NM, natural aspirated) and my previous Saab Vector 93 (154kw, 300NM, turbo) in power, comfort and handling. My A250 comes with leather seats with memory for front seats, leather dash top and 19" AMG wheels as options.

Highlights include:
a) Damn this thing can really reach 100kmh from start very quickly (after my 1,500 km run-in of course) without you even knowing you are there. It feels a lot more faster than the two other cars. The Saab has bad turbo lag. I was unable to feel this on the A250 if there is any.
b) I like the over-run exhaust 'fart' in Sport mode and I am glad the exhaust sound is not a one note sound in comfort mode either. It is not too loud but can still be heard in the cabin. Louder if you had the back seats down in both comfort and sports mode. Have not tried Eco and will not try unless I am about to run out of fuel and there is no petrol station near by. Unfortunately I have no idea how my car sounds like outside. The Bimmer is much louder and attracts attention when driving off traffic lights with a low exhaust growl but with no blips/fart when I downshift or upshift like the the A250. I have always met a large number of drivers who are keen to race me at the lights because of this loud exhaust.
c) Selecting driving dynamic when the mood suits me. Under the Individual setting I have everything in comfort except for the engine, which is in sport with no eco stop start. I am in Comfort setting driving in peak hour and Individual off peak. The engine is so alive and willing, ready to sprint close to the RPM red line before it changes gear when in Sports. It downshifts at a higher rev as you slow down and gives you the whole rev range when you put your foot down from stand still.
d) Gears seem to shift up quickly in comfort mode but not as quickly with downshifts so the manual gear change is handy if you want some shove.
e) I have finally found a suitably comfortable driving position after two months of continuous adjustments. Still feeling my way with the positioning of the lumbar support though. Perhaps this is a case of trying to get use to the lower seats especially coming from the Saab. No problem with the Bimmer though.
f) As everyone with an A250 on the Forum can attest, the handling is brilliant with hardly any body roll, like the bimmer but unlike the Saab.
g) The sound of the suspension when you go over large road imperfections is more muted than the Saab but less muted than the Bimmer.

Lowlights
a) Hmm gear change - In sport setting it can labour too long in 3rd gear but not in 1st or 2nd. I do feel the occasional need to manually shift up so it does not 'drag' on for too long.
b) I had a problem once with the gear change when I was making an uphill left hand turn, it did not shift down and when I manually shift down a gear it hesitated and gave a big clunk sound. It sounded confused and finally when the gear engaged, it was still sitting on a higher gear than I wanted. This was in comfort mode. This might not have happened if I was in sports mode. In the interest of saving fuel, in Comfort setting, the gear is eager to shift up to the 7th gear quickly and you can sometime feel the engine labouring on especially when I am only doing about 60kmh on a suburban road. In Sport mode, it would stay on 4th or 5th which heightens the sense of eagerness from the engine, which I like as the engine spins around 2500 to 3000 rpm.
c) The ride is not hard but I do feel the 'hardness' when I go up and when I go down a 2cm road hump. On the same road hump, I almost would not feel the hump in the Bimmer. The Saab suspension is softer and only very slightly better than the Mercedes. The Bimmer is the most comfortable of the three.
d) Road and wind noise can be heard in the cabin as if coming through the door edges. It reminds me of an old Hyundai Sonata I once sat in. It is even more obvious in the wet when the wheels travel over puddles. I can clearly hear the 'swish' sound as the right wheels travel over the puddle. In this respect, both the Bimmer and the Saab are much quieter cars (Bimmer has run flats). Similarly, the wind noise at high speed is louder than the Saab. Surprisingly, the Saab is actually a quite a quiet car. The Bimmer is noisy with its run flat tyres and convertible top so it is not a fair comparison.
e) There is the occasional keenness to move forward from start when in Sport and I had experienced this a number of time during sharp turn e.g. doing u turn and in stop go traffic.
f) The back gets dirty very quickly - around the rego plate area. The side skirts under the door also gets pretty dirty easily and my leg tends to hit it when I leave my seat.
g) Engine is quick revving however I suspect it probably sounds louder outside than when I am in the car. Like I said before, I have not heard my car from the outside but I suspect the high revving engine noise would over power the sound from the exhaust. I remember hearing a CLA250 speeding off at the light and all I could hear was this high revving engine sound rather than the exhaust you would normally hear from say a V6 equipped sports car. I have heard the CLA45 and its exhaust sounds louder and more obvious than the engine sound when compared to the A250.

So that's it for now. Other bits I love about the car include its looks (a first hatchback for me), its interior styling (red stitching in some but not all places), its safety, its technology, no complaints about the stuck on tablet as it looks like an Ipad (without the obvious bezel) and the comfortable highly adjustable front leather seats. The interior looks like a proper german design car - simple, unique to Mercedes, a bit industrial but sporty all at the same time. Yes plastics are everywhere but it is no E class so you pay for what you get.

Whether the A250, which is also the first Mercedes Benz I've ever owned, will convince me to trade up to another Mercedes, time will tell though if I have a chance now, I might consider the new and very stylish C 43 coupe which is over the $100k mark. Yes I can only dream...

Thanks Monster.

I am also interested in purchasing a set of rear flic that forms part of a new AMG styling accessories for the A class.

I actually hardly connect my phone as that requires me to get the phone out of my pocket. The latest update definitely works better but on 3 different devices I still get the very short audio pauses. But the other day when we wanted to record it (very rarely I have anyone in the car with me and another phone to record it with), as it always goes the actual time I wanted to record it, there was no pauses for over an hour which is quite unusual so I still haven't got it recorded.

While I haven't found a place that sells it, I did find the part number for it from the AMG website.

Thanks again Monster. There is no facility to make an enquiry on their website. I will contact MB Australia direct and not the local dealer who has no clue what I am talking about until I gave him the link to CarScoop.

Found something on ebay, apparently they are genuine items, but the price is prohibitively expensive.

Has anyone else lost the ability to read SMS on the Comand screen ? SMS is greyed out on the Telephone option. Until a few months ago I was able to select SMS from my phone and read them on the Coman screen. NOW ... Nothing. I have an MY13 A250.
