A-Class (W176) [Official] Mercedes-Benz A-Class (W176)

The W176 model was introduced at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show officially as a subcompact executive / C-segment model for the first time after being a supermini / B-segment for fifteen years.
I've done a little research already and read some threads about the link you provided. Apparently not reliable for being up to date and a few reports of people having paid and then being deleted from their website. If possible I would like to go with a mainstream map from the likes of Garmin and convert that for Comand. Keen to get some collective knowledge happening here as I don't want to start from scratch needlessly.
Thanks Frostee, definitely won't give them any money. My iPhone is used constantly but not as convenient to search forums as my Mac which I can only use during the day

Ok. I found another guide on importing the POIs. Was also in German. This seems to be more straightforward. I removed the unnecessary details.

I have the gpx file of the speed cameras in oz (from Garmin), ready to put into the SD card. However, I'm not able to upload the file here. If anyone wants it, pm me.

The youtube link below shows in detail what you need to do prior to importing into COMAND albeit in German.

I have not tried this myself as I have yet to receive my car. But many many forums have people saying that they have been using this method and worked for them in Europe and UK.

Please do not blame me if anything bad happens...hehehe...If anyone is kind enough to try it out, let us know how it entails.

The installation:

Create a folder named "PersonalPOI" on an SD card

Store database there

Insert SD card into the Comand

Press the "Navi" -

Select "Navigation" menu bar at the top

Select sub-item "Personal POIs"

-The data will now be imported (lasting a few minutes).

Then, under "Navigation" / "Personal POIs" on demand optical / acoustic
Enable highlighting!

Important:

SD card must remain in the Comand it.

-Due to the large database, it may take about 5 minutes are the speed cameras are loaded for the first time.

Hints:

NTG-1 version 4.5 can display the speed camera visual only and only to a map scale of 200m
-As of version 2 can be up to a map scale of 1000m displayed visually Blitzer.Furthermore, you can also hear a warning before this (press "Navi", select Top menu bar, etc.)

Thanks for the instructions, I should receive my car by the end of this month so can try it out once I've got it, although in my general driving there are no fixed cameras. It's only when I drive further a field will I encounter them so this is quite useful as I don't know where the cameras are. Although with the cruise control on the A Class I feel I should be safer than ever for not getting a speeding fine. I just wish that our A's had that option that can scan for speed signs as I know I occassionally miss the change in speed. I wondered whether there are any rasberry pi carputer projects that are doing something along these lines

This looks easy enough. I was playing with the Sat Nav menus on the weekend and am familiar with what they're prescribing here. I will PM you for a copy of the POI file and then let you know how I go with the installation.

With regard to ongoing updates of the file, is it possible to subscribe to this from Garmin?

I was taking my daughter around to a few places last night to put her resume in for a job and I saw an awesome picture of a car on what looked like railway sleepers. I loved it as I love working with wood also. Anyone know of somewhere that has an area like that? I should have taken a pic of it. But the car was on top of railway sleepers layed down like pavers I guess you would say. Just had a beautiful effect

There are some beautiful old places like that down in port fairy near the dock. Not 100% sure whether the tracks are in use anymore, but in the evening its quite calm and not a lot of people around.

I had a few mins to spare so decided to take a look at the door pins.

They are easy to remove and are all the same length. Place in unlocked position, grab a rag and loosen with pliers. The unscrew as per normal in a anti-clockwise direction. Once loose you can screw by hand. Then just replace with the aftermarket ones, tighten by hand. Voila, all done in just a few minutes.
Apologies for the crappy images

100% recommend these by frostee, I ordered after reading his post and they promptly arrived. they come in a lovely presentation case really well packed. german writing on them but they are made in japan. no cheap chinese cr@p here these are in fit and finish top class. very befitting of the a class merc and definite without a doubt worth doing to replace the cr@ppy plastic door pins the car comes with as standard :)

Glad you like them.

As you say they are beautifully made and really set off the doors nicely. Only when you get the originals off and take a look at them do you realise how totally crap they are. I showed a mate of mine at work who has a A200 arriving soon and he cursed me jokingly saying that had I not said anything he would never have noticed, and now he notices.

If there's one modification you make to your car I reckon this has to be up there with the best of them.

I may have to go down to Port Fairy and have a look, I think a photo in the evening would also probably look great with the sun going down. ;)

Hey Frostee, if when you want to do your photo shoot you would like an extra A250 then if I'm not working I would certainly love to bring mine down. Might be able to glean a few pointers and ideas on how to shoot watching some Professionals at their work as well.

Still waiting on getting my car, but yes they are very nice looking and quite good value and I'm looking forward to putting them on.

Here's some pics as promised

Hey Frostee,

Still having trouble deciding on Euro plates ($700) or standard plates ($0 extra) was that pic of your car from the front with standard plates or slimline plates? It appears that the Euro plates cover that front plastic plate mount just perfectly. Still trying to figure out spend the money or not.

Mine are slimline. I could never justify spending that sort of money on a plate. It's important to some but not a priority for me. I'm quite happy with the way the standard slimline plates look.

Most certainly. Will let you know when we have a date planned

As you know i'm getting the MB OEM AMG Pins included as part of my deal so i'll let you know what they are like when i get the car in the next couple of weeks. I think I read they retail for around $80 a Pin :wtf: so i'm glad I didnt have to pay for them

Yeah, personally I like the look of them but am struggling thinking of other things I'd prefer to do with the money. Maybe I'll just leave my order as is with slimline plates. I thought they looked o.k. on yours too.

I asked yesterday not about those but about the Wheel lock nuts they are $250 for a set from my local dealer and the boot liner tub was $190. I think I read someone purchased it for about $150 earlier in the forum from their dealer.

My dealer said it's about 150 to me as well...but I negotiated to have him throw it in as part of the deal for me. It might be worth asking him for it. If you never ask, you never know.

well done ! pretty nice to have included in the deal. do be sure to post a pic. if anything like the ones we have got they really are quite a step up from the plastic ones :)

I did get a quote for them and was informed it was $89 each, however in the MB accessories book that I was given when I picked the car up, it states that it comes in a set of 4. Will need to check the part number to confirm, but that'll need to wait until the weekend.

I'm a bit unconvinced about them though. Although I admit the plastic is not the best, but at least it blends in with the surround. With the metal ones, there's a contrast.
