A-Class (W176) [Official] Mercedes-Benz A-Class (W176)

The W176 model was introduced at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show officially as a subcompact executive / C-segment model for the first time after being a supermini / B-segment for fifteen years.
Have you guys seen the latest MOTOR magazine (australia) A250 recorded doing 0-100kmh in 7.4 secs!? what happened to 6.6? o_O Did someone forget to flick the sport mode? hehe.

Good on you Shillo. If I had been told to keep,it confidential I too would have. I suspect in absence of direction whether or not to give it out, your dealer took the understandable conservative approach. I agree, why would you not promote details of the new model?

I opted to deselect the default red seat belts. I really couldn't make up my mind whether it noticed liked them so I went the conservative path. I also though they may get a bit grubby over time being constantly handled. Change is in the system, no going back now lol, despite me still flip flopping in my head about them

Yeah, dont know why he said that, initially he said he could only verbally tell me what was in the upgrade...but then he sent me the bulletin in an email so... o_O

All we need now is a few images of what the upgrades will look like ... keen to see the new look Grille.

Attached is what I understand to be the model year 2014 changes applicable to Australia. This is from a memo that my dealer received from Mercedes Benz Australia.

Re the question of options, I also went with the Command package for the same reason others have given. The sound system is awesome and the sat nav is a bonus.

I also added the AMG Exclusive option. Living in Melbourne it gets cold and I love heated seats, I also really liked the leather in this option. Furthermore this option gives you an upgraded zoned aircon system and includes vents in the cane rear. I can't for the life of me understand why the rear vents weren't standard in all models.

thanks for that. Very helpful.

I'm glad they are including a current gear indicator. Having come from a GTI DSG it helps you to drive off smoothly when slow down to a near stop before accelerating again. One thing I did find odd when I went for a test drive in the A250!

Have contemplated those black wheels too. They are 225s and the standard wheels are 235s. Let us know if the dealer stings you anymore for them?
Didn't realise the black ones were 235's. In reality, what are the implications of running 235 Vs 225?

Sorry, the black ones are 225. I don't think you would notice the difference on the road. Maybe check tyre prices as I know the 215's that were on my dads liberty were very expensive and if you had 225s at the time, they were reasonable. Just something else to think about. I do like the black though! Just do not want to introduce any delays into getting my car. Only 5 weeks away!

Let us know if you get the black and how much they try to charge you.

Probably, and is the 6.6sec using launch control? Did they use that? I've read in other reviews were they record independent 6.5 0-100k's.

I bought the MOTOR magazine today to read this. Even the Focus ST was 7.2s and manufacturer specs rate it at lower. I recall Wheels magazine quoting 7.1s too. Not sure how they measure it and if it is indeed in sport mode. Maybe they had been driving it like a grandma previously as well and maybe the ECU monitors the driving patterns like the VAG cars? I am just speculating but it's unusual it's so far off the official MB specs.

That aside, all reviewers said it was the pick of the bunch and the car they would take it home. It also did surprisingly well around the track.

The Canberra dealer has a red A200 with AMG pack and the black wheels. When I saw this car some months ago it had a detailed list of all the options added and the black wheels were in the $500 to $600 price range. Unfortunately I did not write their cost down as I was not interested in the wheels as an accessory.:)

Zhang as a package, Command represents reasonable value. It also now comes with internet capability that actually works. But If you don't require the Nav system, then I'm not so sure. I'm guessing a similarly performing aftermarket sound system will cost you between $1500-$2000.

Hi Jimmy, welcome too. I opted for the Comand not for the Nav but for the Harmon Kardon. I usually rip out the stock audio and replace them. When I bought the B7, I was prepared to pay for the Dynaudio because I love Dynaudio gear (I use them at home). But after listening to it in the Passat, I still opted out and did my own upgrade. So I was prepared to do the same with the A250, but when I tested the HK system in the A250 (across a range of conditions), it was a no-brainer. The sound was exceptional (when tweaked correctly) and while I could get much better sound with aftermarket gear, I would have to spend substantially more (+$5k) to get above it - and that would only give me audio, no nav etc.

At the end of the day, for $3k, it's an absolute bargain! It's worth that just for the audio. JMO though.

jimmy also an aussie here :D only option I added to my a250 was command pack and definitely worth it :) even just of the upgraded stereo and dab+ radio I would get it :)

Hi Guys,

Thank you all for the awesome feedback. I'll go in my dealership and test drive the Command Pack my self this week but it seems the general feed back is that it seems worth it.

I just got a few questions (which can really wait till Saturday but hey, might as well ask)
Do you guys know if the UI is any different between the Standard and Command pack? Or is the UI the same on the command pack + the extra features?
I assume that the 6 disc system is replaced with the 10GB HD and single disc system?
Is the screen touch screen on the Command pack?
How exactly does the internet work? Via your phone or is there inbuilt internet and i have to pay Merc and monthly fee to use it?
Does the Command Pack keep the USB and Iphone connectivity on the centre arm rest (does it have SD card option too)?

Thanks alot guys!

Hi Guys,
Thanks for all the interesting posts. It's been very useful in our research for our next car.

We just put an order in for our first Mercedes. We went with the A250 in Red, with all 3 packs. Chose to go back to black belts. I liked the red but had visions of spilling something on them and ruining them. Now to see how long we'll have to wait.

Was a bit annoyed I had to end up ordering all of them as there was 1 thing in each I wanted e.g. AMG Exclusive Pack convenience open/close. I was surprised this wasn't standard.

Looked into the AMG door pins but after I found out the were $88 each I'm sure we'll live with the standard ones. Our dealer said he had no knowledge of "my14" so couldn't really ask too many questions about some of the features.

The A class is a good looking machine. A genuine small hatchback unlike the predecessors. The front look better than the new SL....... no poke intended

Hi guys,

Im looking at purchasing the A250 sport, and have read about all the changes happening with MY14. Im still trying to decide whether to opt the comfort suspension or stick with the sports suspension. Since there isnt a car here to test drive with the new lowered comfort suspension, it makes deciding difficult. I dont want to compromise handling too much, and at the same time I want to be able to take a comfortable trip down the country side.

When i mentioned to my local dealer here in Western Australia, he had no idea about the up and coming changes. He went on to say that in the 10years he's been selling Merc's that he has never heard of 'lowered comfort suspension'.

What are everyone's thoughts?
