A-Class (W176) [Official] Mercedes-Benz A-Class (W176)

The W176 model was introduced at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show officially as a subcompact executive / C-segment model for the first time after being a supermini / B-segment for fifteen years.
I wonder why they made that change ? Not that it's that noticeable.
The "original" Diamond grille with the matt silver is still available and fitted on the A250 Sports Engineered by AMG (just not for Australian models). The black version is fitted when the Night package was selected.

So I'm assuming that the specification of the Australian A250s includes the Night package, which includes things such as the black side mirrors and tinted rear windows.

Would their be anyway to upgrade the current A with colour display and some other small stuff via a software upgrade.

MB technicians may be able to update the software under warranty IF there is a suitable error code recorded. Probably won't include a colour display, though.

Well, I've changed my order to a MY14 one. Due to receive it in August. The changes on the MY14 is too much...lol I'll wait it out like mr merc

That's what my dealer said. He's going to finalise the finer details with me tomorrow
does anyone know when the dealership communicates like build number or the like ?

I suspect my dealer is being lazy with communication...

Even prior to finding out about the MY14 changes, I had requested for an August delivery since that's when my existing lease ends. So it works out well that I do not have to wait any longer than I was originally anticipating. My dealer has advised that my vehicle is "within June production. Therefore it is definitely a 804 model." I've asked for more specific details but that has not been forthcoming. I'll wait until we're in May before chasing up again, hopefully by then more information will be available.

On a slight tangent, does anyone know where the gear ratios of the a-class is published?

Does anyone know weight and dimensions of A 220 cdi

Here we go, from mercedes-benz.de. :)

Weight: 1.485 kg

I would not be trusting wikipedia as a reliable source of vehicle weight. Furthermore, with manufacturers published figures, you do need to be mindful of assumptions they make in the calculations such as driver and passenger weight, litres of fuel etc. That said I believe the Golf/A3 is about 150kg lighter than the equivalent A. Volkswagen has certainly lavished some of their huge financial resources engineering the new platform.

Excellent review in todays paper comparing the a250 with the BMW 125i

Their comments below comparing their designs is spot in if think !

"DESIGN
Next to the lustrous ‘look-at-moi’ Benz, the BMW is a sombre Mormon. The barely discernible sports kit does nothing to lift it. Even the five-spoke 18-inch alloys somehow look undersized in a construct that remains visually and functionally awkward in its second generation.
Unremarkable without, underdone within. This interior is worth 30 grand, not the double charged. BMW's much-vaunted dynamic advantage of rear-wheel-drive is a design dead end in a small hatch, the transmission tunnel rendering useless the centre rear seat. The other back pews are intolerable for anyone over average height. Not for nothing is this to be the last rear-drive 1 Series.
By polar, shining contrast the Benz's cockpit could be that of a $150K sports car. It's one of the interiors of the decade to date, an outstanding interface of function and cool; sophisticated yet simple. In exterior terms there's hasn't been a more striking five door hatch. Each time you approach it will gladden your heart."

Sounds like they reviewed an a250 overseas given their comments of it having run flats like the BMW. Merc here definitely gets non run flats in the conti sport 5Ps which lot more supple than the run flats coupled with m pack suspension on the BMW

4.5 stars to the Benz vs 3.5 stars to the 125i sums up well
