DIESEL VARIANTS WITH 4MATIC ALL-WHEEL DRIVE FOR ALL COMPACT MODELS

According to MB Passion on 29 October 2019, the 4MATIC variants with diesel drive become available to order. May include the A 200 d 4MATIC and A 220 d 4MATIC as compact sedan (W177), sedan (V177) as well as B-Class (W 247), each combined with 8G DCT automatic transmission. In the CLA Coupé or CLA Shooting Brake, the engine is expected to be released as well.

And.. MB Passion prefers the 4MATIC variants in the diesel - at least the 220 d with its torque - over the pure front-wheel drive. Drive on all two axles makes a lot more sense than just letting the engine work only over the front axle.

The A-Class hatchback and sedans are the first of their kinds to demonstrate that entry level cars don't have to have boring interiors or exteriors. Inside and out I think find the CLA to be more attractive than the CLS or AMG GT4D.

Yes, it was pulled and there was a decision to put the focus on the AMG CLA35. The AMG A35 does not have a release date. I’m thinking it’ll still appear as a 2021.

I see very few sedan in UK but many hatches..When I was in South africa in decmebr saw many sedans and I must say they look really good in the road I actully like the rear when you see the car in motion looks a very nice small Sedan.

Truthfully they don’t need both. They actually don’t need the A Class at all here.

The CLA is priced slightly higher than the A-class in our market. I believe the intent was to push as many sales as possible to the model with a higher profit margin.

Yes, we have the A220 sedan, which is the lowest cost vehicle Mercedes offers in our market. I think it looks great.

To answer both questions. There is also an 188hp A220 sedan offered in the U.S. in both FWD and 4Matic guises.

@dalab - Sedan sales are dying in the U.S. and the CLA and A are just take each other sales moreso than they are bringing new sales. This is my guess, we will know for sure when the 1st quarter sales come up in April. There are two things I'm waiting to see the GLC vs the GLB and the A vs the new CLA.

I have found the build quality to be dramatically improved on these MFA2 cars. I didn't have any complaints with the CLA or GLB I've been in. Still some cheap parts here and there but the competition is no different.

Seeing that photo it is clear why in many markets the A sedan and the CLA can coexist, although in others it is partly redundant, here the A sedan is advertised and is in the showrooms but if you want a CLA it is only on request.

Yup I'm with Serpens on this one. The MFA2 platform cars are a dramatic improvement in build and fit and are on par with competitors. And the finish is in line with the competition too, not because they have now suddenly managed to emulate Audi, but probably more so because the newer Audi's have come down a notch or two in terms of material quality.

I think the decision between all of these compacts is more so than ever largely style driven.
