Lap is very long, complex, and not so easy to learn in few or more laps.
Driver needs many laps to adapt properly.
Best driver for the ring laptime is some "ring" driver, expert for the ring, with "thousands" laps , who knows every mm of track, something like Stig on Top Gear test track.
If ring was all new for all drivers, I would also bet on Lewis.
But many drivers have a lot more experience on the ring, than Lewis.

I would also love to see Lewis set new record, but I would choose driver who can get maximum of lap.
For sure Lewis with Project One could easily set the new record.
Even if he don't complete too much laps on the ring.
But maybe some driver, who is "domestic" on ring, can complete faster lap.

AMG says biggest challenge is finding the right driver.

During qualifying for the 1983 Nürburgring 1000 KM, Bellof ran the 20.832-kilometer Nordschleife in 6:11.13. In the race that weekend, Bellof clocked a 6:25.91. Moers wouldn't divulge anything else about the Project One 'Ring attempt, but Autocar says AMG has studied...

I can't help but think the Valkyrie is going to be faster, IMO it's like comparing an F1 car to an LMP1 car, both are frighteningly fast but the F1 car will almost always be quicker. The Project One might break the overall record but I bet it won't last long.

If the Valkyrie can handle the Ring without falling to pieces. Also with such a bumpy track like the Nurburgring, Valkyrie's down force generating under floor might not work as efficiently as it does on a flat track.

Of course the Valkyrie is going to be faster, but not at the Ring.
Indeed, those from RBR and AM already stated that they are not going after a Ring record with the Valkyrie, as it doesn't make any sense with such a type of car running on that circuit. The car won't probably work well there (due to too stiff suspensions and underfloor aero being disturbed by the bumpy track), much like a F1 car or a modern LMP1 don't suit that type of track.
They said that they don't want their pilot to die during the attempt, however if any of the owners want to try, they will be free to do it.

The Ring is for fatty, soft cars. Let the Project One have its fun there.
