Official Thread [Official] Lotus Electric Hypercar now confirmed

The video of the Model S mule on the 'ring don't corrobor...
What I like about Tesla is that they are purely result oriented. If the car doesn't benefit from some crazy aero kit, than they won't use it. Extremely pragmatic and sane. Also, Musk has overcome the overpromising period. Just take a look at the Space X, the timely release of the Model Y, the production numbers, the factory in China which was ready in less than a year.

And that's fair enough, if you trust them to deliver on a claim, based on previous results that's your choice. But, for more skeptical people like myself, I'm happy to treat the results of the Roadster 2.0 as a benchmark when it's demonstrated them, and when deliveries to the public commence, until then.. it's like judging a Ferrari by the Devel Sixteen.

FWIW, Lotus has been such a mess for such a long time now, I'm not really much more trusting of anything they're saying either. They EVIJA looks pretty good, and I respect Lotus for former glories, so I hope they can deliver on this... I'm just not holding my breath.

But this Lotus at 2 mln Euro is beyond any com...

Well, that's debatable. I'm not convinced buying a new car full stop represents common sense to be honest, but, yeah, 2 million is a big price to pay for such a car... whether it's a big price to ask is probably a much harder question to answer without knowing the development costs or expected margin.

You need to change your character name from Porsche Guy to...

Lotus hasn't pushed the boundaries of anything for quite a while. I don't see this car as anything besides them chasing the trend of crazy powerful BEVs.

Modern cars are too fast in general. Where can you realistically drive a 2,000 HP car on the road? Same thing can be said about a car with "only" 500hp.

I would rather drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow. It took first-hand experience with a well-sorted Miata after having driven only Porsche's for over a decade to truly appreciate that statement.

Hopefully, Lotus builds a low weight, low HP car at some point.

But this Lotus at 2 mln Euro is beyond any com...
As I have said previously, customers of this car will be paying R&D for an beta product based on technology that completely new to business.

It's a gorgeous car but I am sceptical that it will deliver on range and be spankable at the limit around a track for consecutive laps.

Lotus hasn't pushed the boundaries of anything for quit...
I like the older minimalist, small and lightweight Lotus roadsters, they just in another league to other cars for on road dynamics and excitement.

The Evija to be the latest hypercar to be delayed: autocar.co.uk/car-news/new-cars/exclusive-lotus-evija-launch-pushed-back-until-mid-2021

The article also touches on the amount of deposits. Apparently, they are "in talks" with about 70 interested people and "many of them" already put a deposit down. So that's like... 25? :sneaky: The car is yet to go on "a world tour" to entice more potential buyers, though. That, also, was postponed. Either way, it might be a struggle to fill all 130 slots.

Ah the tragic tale of British supercars. It seems infectious. :cautious:

Understandable from their side, but 70 out of 130 is not good. Hopefully even if it is 70, it reaches production this time around unlike those 2009 concepts. After all, this time they have working prototypes.

This is something to think about for the rest of limited edition hypercar makers. I bet not only Lotus, but the rest are struggling selling their ultra luxurious toys during these times.

Williams’ role in the project was providing specific high-voltage and battery development expertise to the project. Unfortunately, Lotus says that it terminated the technical contract due to delivery issues. Regardless of what that exactly means, WAE is taking legal action against the British automaker’s decision, citing its displeasure and outstanding invoices that have gone unpaid since April 2020.

Lotus’ contract termination is said to put a number of UK jobs at risk and even jeopardise the hypercar’s launch. Regardless of whether WAE will keep its contract, it’s clear that there will be some awkward moments between the two in the near future.
