LFA [Official] Lexus LF-A Supercar (Production Version)

The idea of finding the absolute potential of a car by putting in a driver that is extremely familiar with it and having him run endless laps until he gets it just right sounds simple enough, but what relevance does this time hold?
Intuitively you know this, but your intuition might not be as good while dealing with the factory lap times, which are still made using people, even though they are professional racing drivers and the lap times they achieve after a multitude of attempts and after being backed up by teams of engineers and mechanics aren't achievable by you either.

In normal circumstances you would - and you do - automatically think that, yeah, it's faster, therefore it's better.
The relevance is that we would know how fast the car truly is, given all that the manufacturer has put into the vehicle. I don't think it is by any stretch of the imagination pure coincidence that Tommi Makinen throws the STi into corners with the abandon for which the top rally drivers are famous. This kind of aggression is never seen by HvS (though it is graphically on display by Suzuki in the GT-R, as well as Iida to a lesser extent after the first portion of the track). Clearly, Subaru has engineered the STi to be quick and responsive in that manner, whereas Jim Mero using the same tactic might be picking up bits of Corvette debris in the nearby woods.
Is the point of such testing to find a method of consistency (in a place which by its very nature can be inconsistent from one lap to the next) of comparison between cars? Or are we looking for how fast a car can tame the demanding Nordschleife? Put it another way, why is ~9/10ths lapping by a driver who is for sure much more familiar with Porsches than your average enthusiast anymore relevant than factory tests where the driver is for sure familiar with the car in question? Using a control driver with decades of experience may be a good thing for consistency, if it is your desire to see almost consistently slower times than factory pilots.
You do raise a legit point about relevance: How is HvS's decades of experience, with a closed Nordschleife, relevant to the average enthusiast driver who has no such experience, and no such opportunity to drive a closed Nordschleife? How many private individuals have closed down the 'Ring for their own pleasure? Last time I heard it was one; and he didn't even do his own driving (but hired a VLN ace to do it).

I wouldn't necessarily say faster makes the car better than another, if that's what you mean. On the road, where 99% of buyers will spend 99% of their time, there are other things that make a car "better" than another IMO.

Sewell Dallas, Texas:

According to dealership source:

Posting this where it belongs...

Is it insulting to you that the GT-R can be as fast as the 458? We have already seen from the Motor Trend test that the GT-R, even on non-optimum tire pressures, can lap just as fast as the 458 on MPSS and optimized pressures. If I say that the 458's time can be improved upon, why would I not say the same for the GT-R? How much "invention" is necessary to understand that ~5-6s can be deducted from a 20.8km circuit timing to make it comparable to the 20.6km timing that SA uses? How much invention is necessary to explain why HvS doesn't do his laps with a passenger?? This is not "invention." This is common sense. And when I say "common," I mean common to those who don't live their lives with Ferrari-branded blinders on.
Once again, you refuse to answer the direct question: Do you honestly think Bert's time in the 458 is the absolute 100% best of the 458?

changing 0.14 tyres pressure > changing tyres set... thanks for confirms!!! ;)

In Ferrari's case, they have done both (Autocar BBDC 2010). ;)
Poor understanding of the issues yet again, mafalda. Thanks again for confirming that I was right to feel "called out" as you have named not one single other person familiar with our conversations on both forums. If you had taken up my offer to discuss this privately, rather than repeatedly airing it out in the forums, people might be a little less inclined to see your real agenda here (playing the "Ferrari is victim" card). Aside from lacking the balls to explicitly call people out, your continued innuendo is childish, as are your continued refusal to understand the issues at hand and rehashing of posts on other forums.

0 - 200 km/h in 11.2 seconds. 100 km/h - 200 km/h in 7.3 seconds. Most likely the flimsy tires on the standard LFA make up for most of the differences.

p.s. The gear ratios are the same in both variants. 3.42:1 is the overall final drive. The counter gearset raises the torque multiplication by a factor of 1.3:1.

Acceleration: 0-200 km/h in 11,2 s

  • Air/track temp.: 17/22 Degrees Celsius.
  • Unlike the normal LFA they've tested, the Nürburgring Edition's Launch Control works perfect.
  • According to the datapanel the N.E. has a much longer final gear ratio (3,42 instead of 4,3), but it's also more flexible.

Nürburgring-Norschleife (20,6 km): 7.34,4 min
  • Air/track temp.: 17/25 Degrees Celsius.
  • They did 5 laps at the Green Hell, according to HvS: "It's clear that the Norschleife is its home."

Really? Haha that video wasn't very entertaining or well filmed lol. Desperate to keep the thread alive?

Maybe he's just an enthusiast for the car and likes to share something not yet seen by others.
While I'm sure some of these are going to rot in some people's collections, it's good to see such a rare car actually being used. Unlike this one:

"@Zwolle, the Netherlands
This car is insane! This car has chassis number 001. That makes it the first Lexus LFA to be produced! The owner of this car is Mr. Louwman. He is the Toyota and Lexus importer in the Netherlands.
This car wil never be driven. It will be exposed in the Louwman museum in Den Haag. The LFA was in Zwolle for one week."

Since it's the official LFA-thread, everyone's allowed to post every new, unseen picture, article and video about the car.

Haha of course, just wishing for a little better quality video/post. I know there are better LF-A videos out there than a tiny powerslide overshadowed by a laugh and filmed with a cell phone.:eusa_pray

Some new pictures and videos showing up on the net

^^^I know I sound like a broken record, but why the chrome wheels? It just looks so cheesy. It's like they are trying too hard.

BTW, that does not look like the red from their standard color palette, does it? I like the red in 330CIZHP's avatar; it's deeper and richer looking. That red looks too bright, but that could be lighting. Also, didn't get a chance to see the vids yet, but Mitzi's a bad-ass and the Brownstone looks good.

Yeah, there are two shades of red in the standard palette. The one above is a lighter shade of red while the other one (which is in my avatar) approaches a candy red like shade and has more depth to it. I believe this 'candy red' shade is called 'pearl red'.

Nice to see LFA won the cargraphic yearly test beating out Porsche GT3 RS 4.0

I can already hear the acceleration numbers coming under scrutiny as being "no faster than GT3 RS 4.0". CarGraphic LFA test was in complete wet conditions
