XE [Official] Jaguar XE sedan

The Jaguar XE (X760) is a front engine, rear- or all-wheel drive four-door compact-executive saloon manufactured by Jaguar Land Rover and marketed under their Jaguar marque for model years 2016–2024 — across a single generation. The successor to the X-Type, it was designed by Ian Callum and launched at the October 2014 Paris Motor Show. Production of the XE ceased in mid-2024.
The exterior is great, but the interior is not so great. I won't say it's a let down, but it's definitely not up to par to its competition.

Also, is it just me or do the rear lights look very Audi-esque?

higher res pics make it seem a little bit better, but not by much.

And, yeah, the rear lights are very Audi-like....reminds me of the A5

Looking at these figures the engine is more than competitive in power and torque and if the weight refers to this particular V6 S version (which I doubt it will weigh 1474kg more like 1600kg) then also competitive but the acceleration figure of 5.1sec is not class best, the Audi S4 already achieves this with less power and the 225kw BMW 335i is only 0.2sec slower than that while the just launched C400 will most likely be faster than that as some videos surfaced showing it doing 4.6sec to 60mph, with the possibility of an even more potent C450 and then a facelifted 3 series around the corner with a rumored 250kw 340i model, Jaguar will have it tough going against its tough rivals!

Comparing insides.

Looking at these interior comparison pics these are my personal notes about the XE interior:
Good points:
1) the look of the seats and material used for the seats appear to be of a good standard.
2) the dash doesn't look overburdened with buttons.
3) the instruments look hightech and classic at same time.
4) back seat appears quite spacious with good squab length.
5) I like the XF style hi-if volume control gearshift.

Negative points:
1) the center console near gearshift and cupholder looks very cheap and plasticky with no cover for the cup holders.
2) the buttons used on the dash don't appear to look of a high quality standard, lacking the metal finish of C-Class and 3D block appearance of the 3 series.
3) the door panels look terrible, the worst design feature of the interior, especially the area to rest your arm, where the buttons are and the plasticky look of the speaker boxes. I think a persons fingers will be scratching and touching that plastic speaker box all the time and feeling disappointed by the result.
4) the area around door handles looks cheap and plasticky.
5) the passenger vent and dash don't line up well with the door, appears too low compared to door.

I think the exterior is quite handsome, albeit predictable.

The interior, on the other hand is nothing to write home about.

Like many have said before, the exterior is mildly attractive but the interior is several class below its target rivals, it is actually painful to look at.

And by the way, @KiwiRob , some time ago you were calling BMW, Mercedes and Porsche soul-less and boring, accusing them of being unimaginative and looking identical between each brand; unlike Jaguar, on which every car is different to the other.

What are you going to say now?

I think it looks great, they played it far to safe with the interior. It has the XF face but the rest is different.

I clicked this thread expecting the interior to be a let-down, not an absolute joke. What is more worrying is the fact that this is clearly a heavily optioned launch vehicle-- the dash, trim, and seats already make this an upgraded guise of a stale, cheap, and embarrassing interior. Agent K was pretty damn spot on with this one...

Then again, neither the F-Type nor the XF has a remarkable interior. Jaguar must think that a pretty face (not even a pretty rear in this case) will be enough to carry sales alone.

The front of the car resembles the late 1990s Lexus IS sedan especially from some angles. The current design language of Jag sedans looks like a cut and paste exercise of other cars like Citroen and Audi and its nothing special to my eyes.
The last Jag that I really liked was the S-Type. A true Jaguar it was. However the masterpiece was the XJ of 1970s and 1980s, i.e., Series 1, Series 2, and the breathtaking Series 3.

Within the parameters of 3-box saloon car design one does have to hand it to Callum that he does design a beautiful car. The XE does have some merits: the all-aluminium construction, the double wishbone suspension upfront and a great transmission. Notice however that the excuses are already being made; rear accommodation is compromised, the dashboard design and front interior space explained away against "sportiness" and "characteristic". The 2.0D Ingenium is already well behind class-competitive. It makes 120 kW and 350 Nm - down 20 kW and 50 Nm respectively on the new BMW B47 diesel - which are diesel figures for a good number of years ago.

Jaguar's PR machine, Autocar, is doing its dandiest to dress up this new XE as all new, new, new but I am given no reason whatsoever to want to move from my current vehicle to one of these.

Bild-Vergleich: Jaguar XE 2015 trifft BMW 3er F30 Limousine
BMW is still the icon sports sedan of this class, the Jag looks good against it, front view of both cars is their best angle, the rear of the Jag does'nt look great (not as nice as XF) and 3 series has too much resemblance to E90 and 5 series. Its funny that Jaguar has copied BMW's shark fin antenna on the back side of the roof!!!

It's such a pity. Always liked jaguar, or at least it's heritage.
Side pofile looks good, but so familiar. The lights at the back seem oversized in comparison with the car as such. My biggest issue with the front is the horizontal hood shutline. Hate it when it's so very visible and in my eyes ugly. I know, targetted competitor BMW 3er/4er have the same. But this is a new car, where Jaguar could have changed this ugly detail in so many today's cars.
Where I saw the XJ in 2009 as an alternative to S-Klasse and 7er, I'm afraid this Jaguar isn't an alternative to BMW 3er or Audi A4. Mercedes C-Klasse is, compared to this XE, playing in a league of it's own imho.
If I understand correctly, marketing has placed this XE as an BMW 3 killer/alternative. I would take the 3er in instant over the Jag. Come to think of it, even would rather have an E90 than the Jag.

Jaguar XE wagon and coupe considered, C-X17 production confirmed
Crossover name not decided yet
Jaguar is considering an XE family expansion by adding wagon and coupe derivatives in the following years.

With the all-new XE, Jaguar wants to compete with its German compact rivals on all fronts so it comes as little surprise that XE chief program engineer Nick Miller told CarAdvice wagon and two-door coupe body styles are being considered. He says at first Jaguar will focus on the sedan but chances are in 2015 and/or 2016 additional versions will be added, including the rumored range-topping SVR variant allegedly coming in 2016 with an F-Type V8 S-sourced supercharged V8 5.0-liter with 489 bhp (364 kW).

Nick Miller also confirmed the C-X17 concept will eventually receive a production version with a different name that hasn't been decided yet. Most likely the crossover will be offered in both four- andfive-seat versions as previewed by the several concepts exhibited at various auto shows. Sharing the same iQ[Al] platform with the baby sedan, Jaguar's crossover will likely be introduced in the second half next year or in 2016.

Jaguar XER-S Rendered: 550 HP Supercharged V8

Jaguar offered us a healthy dose of its new XE last night and, interestingly enough, the only model for which we’ve got official specs and images so far, is the XE S. As always, we are power hungry, so we’re bringing you a pair of renderings showing the future range-topper, the XER-S.

While the XE S borrows the Jaguar F-Type’s supercharged V6, battling it out with models such as the BMW 335i with M Performance Power Kit, the Audi S4 or the upcoming Mercedes C 450 AMG Sport, the XER-S switches to V8 power. Massaged V8 power, that is.

You see, in order for us to receive an XER-S, we may have to get the XER first, whose supercharged 5-liter V8 will churn out around 500 horses. Borrowing the version of the engine that’s present on the F-Type Coupe R, the S model will up the ante to 550 hp.

Speaking of the F-Type Coupe, the XE could follow its power scheme, which means there will be no XER model - those looking for grunt go straight from the V6-powered S model to the 550 hp incarnation of the V8. Either way, Jaguar has already confirmed it will deliver an XE capable of hitting 186 mph (300 km/h), so we have a suspect.

While the Jaguar XE comes in standard with rear-wheel drive, there will also be all-wheel drive versions. It will be interesting to see which of the sedan’s hot versions will get all four paws working as an option. Returning to the RWD side of the story, this Jaguar will definetly be a drifter, but we're curios about its handling while at the limit of the grip.

Like we said when talking about the standard XE, is we can call the S that, the XER-S will face extreme competition. Jaguar did not try to hide the fact that they are targeting the BMW 3-Series with the XE. Well, the 431 hpF80 M3 is fresh out of the laboratory and it mixes superb handling with a monstrous engine.

Then there’s the upcoming 460+ hp Mercedes C63 AMG. A drive in a regular C-Class quickly reveals the car’s lack of dynamic appeal, but make no mistake, the Affalterbach version will be nothing short of a demon.

And since Audi’s next-gen A4 should arrive sometime in 2016, the German carmaker needs sometime until it can deliver a new RS4. However, this means the British automaker should be even more worried, since we expect Audi to bring jaw-dropping quattro active diff tech, for instance. The current RS4 delivers 450 naturally-aspirated hp, so expect this to climb up to 500 horses.

As for the visual drama that will accompany all those technical upgrades, the adjacent rendering, which come from X-Tomi Design, tell the story pretty well.

The upcoming Paris Motor Show will bring us the Jaguar XE in person, so at least we’ll have something to chew on until the V8 firepower arrives.

It looks great from the front, maybe even best in class but the rest of the car isn't something to brag about.
If the weigth of the car is 1280 kg, then a big WOW!!

Well, as Sunny pointed out, you gotta give it to Ian Callum. The exterior design is beautiful, very elegant and sharp. Sadly, the surprise element was ruined with that slow and painful release/ teasing and the leaked images. I would be crying of joy right now, if it hadn't been for the leaks.

In any case, tears would stop the moment I saw the interior photos. The interior has a number of premium elements, but overall it's just meh. Sadly it's a let down, but not that terrible.

I haven't had the time so far to check out the engines. Any descent four-pots?
