Corvette (C7) [Official] Chevrolet Corvette (C7)

The Chevrolet Corvette (C7) is the seventh generation of the Corvette sports car manufactured by American automobile manufacturer Chevrolet from 2014 until 2019. The first C7 Corvettes were delivered in the third quarter of 2013. The racing variants include the C7.R, which won the GTLM 24 Hours of Le Mans.
The end is nigh for the seventh-generation Corvette. But until GM switches the recipe to mid-engine supercar, the current C7 has a final ace up its sleeve: the ZR1. What hides under the hood of the big bad ‘Vette has eluded us until now, but as it happens, Chevy went forward with a 6.2-liter supercharged V8 codenamed LT5.
2018-corvette-zr1-confirmed-with-supercharged-lt5-v8-engine-117928-7.webp

The official confirmation on the LT5 V8 comes from Cincinnatti-based Weapon X Motorsports, who discovered what’s what on General Motors’ RPO system. Sporting an aluminum block with direct injection and variable valve timing, the engine in question appears to be a revision of the LT4 (C7 Z06; Camaro ZL1).

And that’s a bit baffling. As you might remember from not that long ago, the GM service document for 2018 model year vehicles lists that LT5 stands for naturally aspirated and a DOHC configuration. A quick sound check of the Corvette ZR1 on the Nurburgring tells otherwise, though, mainly due to the tell-tale whine of the supercharger hiding under the long, bulging hood.

About that, word hard it General Motors took to Eaton to employ the TVS R2650 blower for the ZR1. 2.65 liters represent a huge step from the 1.7-liter blower strapped to the engine of the Corvette Z06. However, it remains to be seen if the rumor mill will be proven right once the veil will be taken off.

While on the subject of speculation, the advent of DSSV dampers on the Camaro ZL1 with the 1LE extreme track performance package might be an indicator that the C7 ZR1 will be gifted with Multimatic’s technology as well. The bigger mystery is the type of transmission Chevy will use in the last hurrah of the seventh-generation Corvette. Up until now, spy videos of the ZR1 on the ‘Ring reveal a shifting sound akin to a full-fledged automatic.

Look forward to the debut of the 2018 Corvette ZR1 sometime in August.

2018 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 Does Nurburgring Lap Time Blitz with Tiny Spoiler

This summer has seen a multitude of amazing go-fast machine blitzing the Nurburgring and one that has grabbed our attention in particular is the 2018 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1. We had previously seen the monster 'Vette testing in two aero configurations, namely with a massive wing and a small spoiler and, after the first delivers some delicious Ring testing footage, it is now time for the latter to return under the spotlights.

Heck, we've seen the supercar flying on the Green Hell so many times, that we wouldn't be surprised to wake up to an official announcement letting us know that the thing is now the official holder of the production car lap record.

Keep in mind that the 2018 Porsche 911 GT2 RS, a 700 hp rear-wheel-drive animal, is also suspected to have set a Nordschleife record, so the battle is on, even with the two carmakers being tight-lipped on the matter.

And while the overly loud voice of the prototype (noticed the improvised exhaust hardware allowing it to meet the Nurburgring decibel limit) does drop supercharger hints, we're still not sure about the contents of the machine's engine compartment.

The strongest rumor to date has to do with an all-new 6.2-liter LT5 DOHC V8. Nevertheless, others expect the seventh-generation Corvette ZR1 to be animated by a pumped-up incarnation of the 650 hp LT4 motor in the Z06. The latter path would require serious extra cooling efforts, given all the heat soak discussions revolving around the Z06.

Big or small, the wing adorning the posterior of the new ZR1 is just a part of its extreme aero package and we can wait to feast our eyes on the uncamouflaged machine.

P.S.: If the spray-painted guardrail message you can see at the 0:24 point of the video seems familiar, it might be thanks to the non-factory-backed Dodge Viper Nurburgring lap time adventure we discussed earlier today.

I'm hopelessly stuck in the 1960s'/early 1970s' when it comes to Corvettes.

2018 Corvette ZR1 Spied In Near-Production Form With Little Camo

I'll probably get a lot of pushback, but I see alot of the 812 Superfast here. Alas, the C7 Corvette came first. That may explain why I am having trouble getting on the trolley for the 812's design.

This C7 has not aged well. Looked really novel when it first appeared on the scene, now it looks boxy and disjointed (imo, of course).

Even with the Z06 CFZ carbon package, presence is just not there on the road. Then there's the never ending engine overheating/failure saga. Things got to the point where there was a class action suit by owners against GM.

2018 Chevy Corvette ZR1 Could And Should Look Like This

2018 Chevy Corvette ZR1 Could And Should Look Like This

And with the render being based on spy shots, it probably will.
It’s the beginning of September and we still have no idea when Chevrolet will finally take the wraps off the ultimate Corvette, the ZR1. A best-case scenario would have to be the Los Angeles Auto Show early December, unless the company with the bowtie emblem will decide to host the hotly anticipated premiere a month later in Detroit. Meanwhile, a new render is available courtesy of OmniAuto.it / Motor1 Italy to try and ease the wait.

We’ve seen the Corvette ZR1 in dozens of spy shots showing a multitude of prototypes. Some had big rear wings while others didn’t; some were coupes while others were convertibles, and there were also a few with elongated exhaust tips to partially cancel the glorious soundtrack provided by the yet unknown engine. Why? Because the car was simply too loud for the Nürburgring, prompting Chevy to take this unusual measure as a way dial down the volume in order to be legally allowed to test the prototype. You won’t find the extended rear pipes on the production model, but the rear wing should be there to boost aero.

The meanest ‘Vette of them all will serve as a last hurrah for the C7 and quite possibly for the front-engine layout altogether as the C8 coming around 2019 will finally have the powertrain in the middle after decades of rumors. The two cars could actually share the same engine if we were to rely on the rumor mill, which indicates Chevy will install its all-new LT5 DOHC V8 with a 6.2-liter displacement. The engine itself appeared in a GM service department internal document, so we know for sure that it will arrive sooner or later.

If we will see it in the ZR1’s engine bay, it will definitely have significantly more than the 650 horsepower generated by the supercharged LT4 6.2-liter inside the Z06. We won’t be too surprised if it will hit the sweet 700-hp spot. The immense American muscle could be channeled to the wheels through a 10-speed automatic transmission, with no signs of a manual.

Production of the ZR1 is expected to begin early 2018 and it will cost well over the $79,495 Chevy is asking for the Z06.

The C6 ZR1 was the talk of the town when it first came out- 641 bhp (more than the 599 GTB, 997 GT2, & matching the LP640 and SLR 722), Carbon brakes from the Ferrari FXX, Carbon roof, super light, magnetic ride, etc... This all meant crazy performance figures for the time, which scared the establishment.

Fast forward nearly 10 years later, and now there seems to be little interest by the automotive community about the impending release of the C7 ZR1. With all the super fast sports cars and exotics on the market now, I doubt it'll break any new ground.

Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 will get an automatic transmission option

Chevrolet's ultimate performance Corvette is nearing production, and we just got one of our best looks at its interior. Things haven't changed much from the standard Corvette to this ZR1 prototype. The overall shape of the dash on this and the infotainment system are the same. It does have a new steering wheel with lots of carbon fiber and suede, which matches well with the large glossy carbon fiber trim panels on the dash.

The big news is the transmission. We can clearly see that this ZR1 has an automatic, which is a bit surprising since the highest-performance Camaro, the ZL1 1LE, is a manual-only car. But there's no doubt this prototype has an automatic. We know because of the slightly narrow opening for the shifter, a "-" on the left shift paddle (no "Rev Match"), the fact that the knob is the same shape as the ones in other automatic 'Vettes, and the top has "speed" printed on it. On other automatic-equipped Corvettes, since they have eight-speed transmissions, "eight" is written next to "speed."

Unfortunately, we can't make out what number is written on this knob. Using the Z06's eight-speed would seem like a logical choice, since it already fits the car, and it has proven its strength in the 650-horsepower sports car. There is, however, a distinct chance that Chevrolet may choose the new 10-speed automatic used in the Camaro ZL1, which also uses the Z06's supercharged V8. That transmission would also give the ZR1 another bragging point. We wouldn't object either, since the 10-speed works excellently in the ZL1.

For fans of manual transmissions, though, we have no doubt that when the ZR1 makes its appearance, it will have a transmission that requires the use of three pedals. Here's what else we know and expect from the monster 'Vette.

This will be one very dangerous car

Corvette drivers have a tendency of not driving them, so I wouldn't be so sure. The average buyer is 50+ years old.

New Corvette ZR1 To Debut At Next Week's Dubai Motor Show?

2018-Corvette-ZR1-Dubai-Motor-Show-%2B%25281%2529.webp

Chevrolet has been openly testing the 2018 ZR1 for well over a year but no announcement has been made about when the supercar will premiere.
2018 Corvette models will end in just a few months and that production of the 2019 car will commence at the end of January. This means that the new ZR1 will be a 2019 model year car. Additionally, the American carmaker has confirmed dealerships will receive 2019 Order Guides on November 20th.

So, what does all of this mean? Well, it could mean that the new ZR1 will debut earlier than expected, potentially at next week’s Dubai Motor Show on November 14th.

Initially, it was thought the car would launch at the Los Angeles Auto Show at the end of this month. However, it wouldn’t make sense for the car’s order guide to be made public a full 10 days before its debut, as Corvette Blogger mentions.

While Chevrolet has yet to comment on the rumors, they aren’t all that far-fetched, even if the Dubai Motor Show seems like an odd place to reveal the new ZR1. Either way, an appearance in LA seems inevitable for, at the very least, the car’s U.S. debut.
