Chiron [Official] Bugatti Chiron

The Bugatti Chiron is a mid-engine two-seater sports car designed and developed in Germany by Bugatti Engineering GmbH. It was manufactured in Molsheim, France, by French automobile manufacturer Bugatti Automobiles S.A.S.. The successor to the Bugatti Veyron, the Chiron was first shown at the Geneva Motor Show on 1 March 2016.
Rimac's CEO has stated that the Bugattis that are currently in development will have a combustion engine.

He has also said that with the drivetrain in the Chiron successor is the opposite of what people think. It wouldn't be safe to assume that it will be a downsized engine paired with electric motor.

However the opposite direction would be to not decrease engine displacement and cylinder count. There is a possibility that the drivetrain will be a W16 with electric motors. But is it even technically possible to add electric motors, batteries and more radiators to a car of the same footprint as the Chiron?

Unfortunately the W16'S are finished after the Bugatti Bolide and Bugatti Mistral. They are just too big and heavy no matter how charismatic they undoubtedly are. Plus the biggest factor Volkswagen has no intention of buliding any more.

I wonder whether a heavily reworked W12 by Bentley could be an option. The ideal hybrid configuration would be for the ICE to output 900-1,100hp and the electric motors 500-600hp.

Mate Rimac has stated the next Bugatti engine is naturally aspirated and I believe a completely new design. I'd have to look it up. My immediate thought was the new Lamborghini Aventador replacement V12. I guess we will have to wait! The magnificent W16'S have sometime to go!

True. A blank slate approach makes sense for the successor.

Bugatti Chiron beat the Mclaren Speedtail BUT I need to see the daya. The 1/4 mile times were very close! Hopelessly we can get some high speed numbers!

Volkswagen AND Porsche were INSISTING on an ELECTRIC ONLY replacement for the Bugatti Chiron. Mate Rimac said NO!

Quote>“That would have been the easiest thing for me, to take the Nevera, which we have developed for five years, and just rebadge it into a Bugatti,” he said. “You know, change the design… that’s the easiest thing to do.

But I was fighting furiously with the management of Porsche and Volkswagen, really heated arguments, that the next Bugatti shouldn’t be electric. And I think that was absolutely the right decision.”

Mate Rimac is a TRUE car guy.

Bugatti is in good hands then.

Definitely because Volkswagen handed over the entire project for the replacement of the Bugatti Chiron 18- 24 months from memory before the announcement of the Bugatti-Rimac merger was ever made. So yes, absolutely.

this sort of reveals what the actual intent with the selling of Bugatti (51% or 49%) was about, they just wanted high power electric parts easily and make a next gen electric hypercar with no effort

long-term we still don't know what VW has actually planned with Rimac, as they could still turn the situation into a buyout/merger, but then again in todays economy value is determined by hype/stockmarket as Tesla have shown

Rimac was an acquisition-hire for VAG. Rimes is targeting a production of 1 Nevera per week. That’s 52 cars per year.

However, in the next 12 months they will supply 50,000 battery packs for other manufacturers. Basically by acquisition Rimac VAG have fast tracked their R&D in batteries, motors and cooling for performance BEVs by 10 years.

Rimac currently have deposits for 42 Nevera's. That was confirmed by a senior guy that recently left a position in Global Marketing and Sales. The title was something like that.

That's a bit sad for them, Pininfarina has sold all 150 Battista they planned on making. My guess this is due to the Battista being a much better looking vehicle and Pininfarina arguably a better known name.

I can GARUNTEE Pininfarina hasn't sold out of production slots yet. Anyway if you watch the Shmee Rimac factory tour, Rimac are actually manufacturing the rolling chassis's for them on a seperate production line! So Rimac are quids in there too!

There is a lot more to Rimac than the Nevera. They are turning into a mini Magna Styrn for hyper cars and are building great knowledge from working with other manufactures.

I know the OEM buisness is what Porsche invested in plus the Koreans, that's what hooked them for their own projects.

I don't even know if the Rimac Nevera will break even, but the reputed £90 million that Pininfarina (Mahindra actually) paid for the drivetrain may have tipped the scales! Plus the assembly.

That's what makes the engine for the next Bugatti production car SO interesting. Obviously it can't be their own i.e. Rimac. If it IS well, I'll be stunned!

Just been watching that video, skipping the boring bits. I hope that Bugattis continue to be produced in France, to manufacture them at Rimac wouldn't be good for the marque IMO.

Agreed. Same with the Evija. Official statement sold out but unofficially not close.

In videos and interviews Mate comes across as a die hard engineer and passionately curious one too. All his R&D know-how from the Nevera, client car‘s and Chiron is funelled into problem solving for the Chiron successor.

The car will be nothing short of spectacular. I see Mate as a young Ferdinand Piech and can envision him as a future CEO of VAG.
