Same could be said of all the hypercars, no?
I get there is the market for this kind of car, just I don't happen to share the love for it. I don't see myself needing to show and probe my wealth to the world, even if I had enoungh money to have a Chiron. Is simply too excesive, in my point of view.A good portion of clientele for these cars want the premier automobile. One with the most horsepower, the highest price tag, the highest levels craftsmanship, highest top speed etc...They need not drive anywhere near the limit, but they can cruise around the streets of Monaco, London, Miami, and LA in the automotive equivalent of a parade float, knowing that they'll have millions of videos/pictures taken, have other drivers move aside, and have their hypercar parked front and center at any venue they attend. If attention is not adequate, then why not wrap it in a loud color for the desired effect....
Then again, and according to Bugatti, their typical customer has 60+ cars, 3 yatchs, planes, etc, so I don't think the astronomical cost actually is a concern. The reason why 2000s F1 cars are in the same price range as the hypercars, if not, cheaper is because operating costs are absolutely astronomical. Then you have to muster together and maintain a pit team. I agree it would be much more thrilling
Is it me, or did this guy just mention his Mazda MX-5 while interviewing the Bugatti Chief Engineer about the Chiron? (around 2:00)
Ha, you're absolutely right Martin. We human beings can be very illogical; I can't explain why I get satisfaction from watching YouTube videos of Veyrons and Huayras brutally accelerating on Dubai's motorways. It's all relative when it comes to such rarified extreme wealth.
The think what people lack appreciation for is the VeyChiron's unique ability to punch top speeds way beyond anything else in series production. The weight is, unfortunately, a necessary evil required to punch through 400 km/h and beyond. It's a USP like no other - irrespective of whether owners will ever get to experience it. It says 400 km/h on the tin and that's what you get - every time - coupled with an entirely consistent, credible and immeasurably complete product.
